Sounds reasonable to me. Can I suggest the keeper of the list add a (C) behind the names of us Canadian type folk, so maybe we can set up a "north of the border" swing?Brian |

Skippy is only a 2 hour drive from me (as is the Tartan Terror) and Above the Clouds is less than 10 minutes from me. I'm planning on a mini-geekfest when it gets to me and with being a tight Scot like the idea of splitting the shipping to Kirsten 4 ways . Regards, Derek |

I noticed that last time on the list my name is down as Machmanbuster... don't want to quibble but it is actually Machbusterman... but hey.... I've been called worse Bruce, I feel for you man... I really do!! If the box doesn't get any heavier and is still 52Ibs when it leaves you shipping to me via the USPS will cost the following: Surface Mail (4-6 weeks deliver) $98.75 Airmail (4-10 days delivery) $173 Global Express Mail (3-5 days delivery, includes signature on delivery/insurance) $179.75. All services have a weight limit of 66Ibs. Cheers, Derek |

Don't worry postage will be next to nothing by the time us Europeans have pilfered the box. Now if it goes to OZ you might only be left with the stamps as they all came from convict stock One of my most embarrising moments was when an English mate of mine in the tower of london looking at the crown jewels yelled at the top of his voice watch this one he's Australian. |

Allright, I went through "the box". I robbed the patch bag cause that's what I mainly collect and I picked out a few decals. I chose a few pictures, the apollo 18 landing simulation game, snoopy KSC sweatshirt, the wright brothers dvd, a couple of other dvd-roms, four mission cachets, and what I'm guessing is a flown part. I'm curious as to what that part it and when it was flown, if that's what it is...it looks like a long rod of some kind. I added some crew photos, some patches, some nasa education materials (some are still shrinkwrapped), two shannon lucid autopens, a Columbia memorial magazine, and some informational materials about our emerging challenger center site here in OKC. There will be more materials added once I make my run up to the NASA ERC at Oklahoma State University this week. Hey Derek,It looks like I only have two options to save on shipping across the pond: 1) Buy a round trip air ticket and hand deliver the box. 2) Empty out 99% of the contents before forwarding your way. ... OK, three options ... 3) Suck it up and send it on with the same good faith that it started out with. Best, Bruce |

Hey Bruce,Option 2 sounds like it might be the most fun and to be honest, you could probably pick up a transatlantic flight for not much more than double the price of the Global Express option. I've already started looking out stuff to put in. Got a nice box set of NASA DVD's (European region coding), a few autographs/autopens, covers, Life Magazines (circa July 1969) and other related "Tat" (as my wife calls it <LOL>! I have another thought to this idea...Because it will be so expensive to ship this, find out the cheapest way to send the box over the pond, and maybe have everyone who has had the box so far chip in a bit to help with the shipping. Can all be sent to you through paypal or money order or something. And when the box is ready to come back over from Europe, everyone on that side do the same thing...just an idea..don't know if it would work or not...or even make sense for that matter. |

Well y'all, "the box" has been repacked and will now be heading off to "andthekids" tomorrow. Cali, here it comes. I visited with the NASA ERC at Oklahoma State University. They added alot of nice posters and other media including a shuttle simulation game. They also added a couple of NASA antenna balls and some 100 years of flight stuff. I changed my mind about the flown part and the Apollo 18 simulation game. They are back in the box. I also added two brand new Challenger Learning Center of Oklahoma City t-shirts. I really enjoyed having it here. Will be looking forward to another go around in about a year or two. Whoever, is keeping the list, please add my name at the bottom for a 2nd go around down the road. Been fun!! Brian [This message has been edited by HouseDadX4 (edited March 10, 2005).] [This message has been edited by HouseDadX4 (edited March 10, 2005).] |

Hello all, I really like Brian's (HouseDadX4) brain! I think you might be on to something here. If Derek's postage calculations (see above) are correct, "The Box" is gonna be expensive to float across the pond, and even floating it is going to cost $100.00 and take weeks to arrive! I would prefer the Global Express route (circa $180, 3-5 days and signature on delivery). So, if any of you on the list above my name have it in your heart (and your PayPal account) to make a contribution for shipping The Box from my house to the UK, please email me off-list and I will give you my PayPal info. If 15 people above my name can contribute $10 each, I will make up the rest. Derek, don't worry. The Box will arrive on your doorstep! Thanks for your idea Brian and thanks to all who can contribute! Best, Bruce |

HousedadX4's idea is a good one. As I've mentioned before there are at least 4 Scottish collectSPACE members within driving distance of my house and we're planning to split the cost of shipping it to Kirsten in the Netherlands. I'll be perfectly happy to pay a share of the shipping back to the USA if all the other European cS members that are in on the act do the same.To give some idea of the cost of shipping items internationally from the UK : I shipped 10 aviation magazines to a friend in Virginia via Parcleforce Worldwide's "International Standard" service. The package weighed 2.8Kgs or about 6Lbs. The shipping came to £37.40 or about $72!! This is Rip-Off Britain after all <LOL>. Bruce, when the box hits my doorstep you won't need email to learn about it... you'll hear my whoops of delight over in South Carolina Have a great weekend folks. Best regards, Derek |

I'd be happy to contribute 10.00...just let me know where you want it sent...Now, in terms of the status of "The Box" as of today, it is now in shipment via FedEx leaving Oklahoma City today. Ground shipping was 27.00 to Cali. It now weighs 61 pounds...Jim, you should get it by the middle of next week. Brian [This message has been edited by HouseDadX4 (edited March 11, 2005).] |

Guys, I was looking back at the first post when this started. This was an awesome idea. It has been traveling now for over two years. That's pretty cool!!! Everyone please make sure to sign the inside of the cover. My NASA ERC signed it yesterday when I was there...Keep that signature going!!! Reminder to whoever is keeping the list of people lined up to receive the box to please add me at the bottom for another go around in the future... Brian |

Alright, new idea that came to me.....when reading that many of you'all are going to have a "box party" and have your space collecting area friends over when the box arrives....which is a GREAT idea.Apologies, if this has been mentioned before...."why not" have a BIG "press party" in each part of the country/world.....when the box arrives.....get with your local newspaper/radio/TV people and tell them about the box....what is happening here.....what it is filled with, etc., etc., and all about the "space" collecting hobby ! If you are not in the "big time" space areas of the country, there "might" be some interest....especially if it hits on a slow news day.....and a few menions of collectSPACE during your "interviews" couldn't hurt either ! THE BOX is ready for its next destination! It will be there this Saturday! What I took out: 4 pounds of packing material, ie plastic and cardboard. (just trash) Space shuttle flown cargo bay liner book mark. (I was glad to see these in THE BOX since I have been trying to get one on eBay. There are a few left.) Two Covers (Great collection. Thanks to all that have added them) One signature from the Space shuttle STS 50 (there's a bunch left from various missions) Three post cards and One Apollo coffee table magazine. What I added. NASA facts Stickers Apollo-Soyuz/Space Shuttle Space Shot Cards Space Shuttle Crew Photos Pamphlet for Japan's Space Flight Activities along with photos of their Astronauts. Pin Back's Covers and other miscellaneous items. Lots of great stuff left. I wish that the hardware in THE BOX could be identified. I loved having THE BOX at the house and enjoyed looking and reading through all the memorabilia. I do have one suggestion, lets use a guest book instead of the lid on the box to capture the names and places its been. THE BOX has only made it to a few homes across this country in its new plastic container and it is already getting beat up. It looks like by the time it goes overseas and back we will be looking at a new box and I would hate to lose the signatures from the lid. That being said I have added a guest book to THE BOX. I cant wait to see THE BOX and where it's been back at my door step in another year or two. Thanks to all that have contributed to the contents and continue the process of packing and shipping. Guys/Gals there is 14 pounds of stuff totally unrelated to space flight. I went through the box and organized the items as best I could but it still weighs a ton. If I were to ship this thing over seas I would remove all items in the 14 pound category. But my trash is some ones treasure. I have added 4 sections of flown parachute cord in plaques from Apollo/Souyz that were removed by my father-in-law upon recovery along with 8x10 COA's. Thanks again and please add my name for a second round. Jim |
