It didn't yet, because I haven't yet found a good photo. I need to know what Discoverer 1 looked like in space.

Rare to see a dedication to Apollo 1. And it is quite nicely done.

I'm always amazed how you seem to just whip out these drawings and paintings. How long did "Gordo" take to draw just out of curiosity?

I went to a lecture and book signing by Paul Calle last weekend and got his new book. I asked him about the launch prep drawings and he said he wold quickly spend about 5 minute doing the rough sketch then fill details in later. Some are very simple, but even then you can easily name the astronaut!

I really admire those skills.

As a matter of fact, 'Gordo' was actually inspired by the Paul Calle book that I received last week. Seeing Paul's pencil work really made me want to make something similar. It took me about 90 minutes to make.

I see the influence of Calle in this drawing, Ed.

As your body of work grows, you is also are influencing others as well (me for one). I find myself examining every painting and drawing you produce to see if I can learn and reproduce the same effects.

This is another wonderful drawing. Excellent.

Very nice, Ed. I especially like pencil drawings. And Calle is one of my favorite artists, along with "EH".

Ed, nice drawing! I told my dad about the drawing and your post and he says, "keep up the good work!".

I still remember having Gordon Cooper's helmet, SpaceSuit and gloves in our garage when my dad was working on his painting, Knights Armor in the 1960's.

Thanks to all, especially Paul and Chris. It was the 'Knight's Armor' painting that made me want to do a Gordo piece. I love the way how one artist can inspire another.

I remember seeing Paul Calle's artwork in a book in the 1970s and wishing I could do that. But I know I will really have made it when NASA lets me borrow a spacesuit to make a painting...

No praise for the printer? I did these myself, keeping the price well below the normal price for giclees. It's an INTRODUCTORY price, by the way.

Finally had some time to make a small painting again. This cover commemorates the flight of Ham aboard Mercury-Redstone 2 on January 31, 1961.

Well Alan, since you asked I decided to do one more small painting, my final one for 2009. Just finished it an hour ago. This cover commemorates the flight of Sigma 7 by Wally Schirra in 1962.

Happy New Year!

Only thing that would have been cooler is if Ed were to paint himself sitting at his painting station in the reflected visors as it looks SO good it is almost as though Ed is on the moon himself painting Neil and Buzz. Wow!
