"The Eagle has landed" 30x40cm, gouache on art boardSince late last year I had been planning to make an Apollo 11 anniversary painting. Initially I was preparing a work showing the three astronauts in spacesuits, staring off to the left to a distant moon. A bit like the famous Norman Rockwell painting. Until Linda Kendzierski coined the phrase "Ed's Eagle" in an unrelated topic. That gave me the idea for the present work, which I completed today. Thanks Linda! |

How cool is that?! When you see the Apollo 11 patch with the eagle doing its flare to land and then see this...Very provocative Ed! |

Ed, you should make this into a limited print and/or giclee. Reserve #16 for me (to go with my #16/50 Space Art book). |

This has to be the most stunningly appealing and symbolic pieces of space related artwork that I have ever seen. Wonderful! |

Ed - I have to say this is yet another stunning painting. Thanks for saying that my comment contributed in some small way to this beautiful piece of art!Having recently gotten your small Charlie Duke painting, I learned that although these online pictures are stunning, the originals are even more amazing! I agree with David Wagner that you should definitely make this available as a limited edition print or giclee. If you decide to do so, PLEASE make sure to reserve one for me. As always, Ed, a beautiful job! |

Ed, simply beautiful! This would have been an excellent 40th anniversary patch.Eric's is the best available, the NASA "official" one is just uninspiring. |

Ed, How long did this work take to paint? Could Novaspace assist in getting some sort of print made of this? Just a thought. |

Again, thanks for all the positive comments. I work rather quickly and it took me about three days to make this painting. Once I have the idea in my mind, everything is downhill from there. As some of you may know by now, I have no business instinct at all. Having a limited edition print made seems like a good idea to me, but I wouldn't know how to go about that. Prints on photopaper of my works are available through my friend Jerome in the UK, but I realize these are not giclees and they are not signed. Also, I don't like the job of taking orders, getting packing materials, packing and shipping stuff, hoping that it arrives in one piece. I found that out with my book. I have done the work making the painting and I hate anything that comes after that. Yes, we artists are odd. I need an agent! I know I could probably make a lot of money if I market these things better, but if it is up to me it probably won't happen. The person who bought the original of the painting suggested that prints of it would also make a great gift for Eagle Scouts and there are probably more ideas around. So, I'm open to any suggestions that would make my life easier in that regard... |

Ed, firstly, I have to agree with the others - this is a wonderful painting. Many people like yourself find business activities tiresome, and the hard fact is that you may have to spend some time other than painting! Look for someone who can handle that side of things for you. It could be a young, locally qualified graduate who has business skills and is interested in art. Yes this would mean employing someone, but as they say... 'you need to speculate to accumulate!' |

Ed, if that limited edition print run ever materialises please add me to the list who would like to buy one. This is a really great painting. |

Disagree strongly. Hiring even a single person increases your headaches, paperwork and responsibilities a hundredfold. Might as well hire fifty to pay for the accountants, lawyers, computer guys, webmaster, and other business professionals. Of course you'd better have more than one offering and a market of more than a few cS wellwishers. Kim Poor novaspace.com |

Believe me, guys: I have no intention to go professional and hire people (even an agent). This is a hobby and I intend to keep it that way... |

Believe it or not, I want to paint a nice portrait of a tiger next. And I really need to do four first day covers soon (or at least make a start on the first one). |

Looks like Ed is on a "National Geographic" tour. By the way, the Apollo 11 patch image of the Eagle landing on the Moon was based on a "Nature drawing" from National Geographic magazine... |

That's right, Philip. At first I wanted to use that National Geographic image for the Eagle painting, but I changed that to an Eagle that had already landed. Makes the title more fitting... |

The patch image of the eagle landing on the moon was taken from a National Geographic society book entitled 'Water, Prey and Game Birds of North America'. The image used was on page 236.See Mike Collins own words from his book: 'At home I skimmed through my library and finally found what I wanted in a National Geographic book on birds: a bald eagle, landing gear extended, wings partly folded, coming in for a landing'. |

For all you Hengeveld-fans out there: signed prints of "The Eagle Has Landed" can now be ordered through the website of my friend Jerome. The many requests I received made me decide to make a limited edition, high-quality photographic reproduction of 18x12inch available as a one-time offer. For ordering details see here. |
