Ed, amazing! How did you prevent the Vette's tires from exploding?

I had Rick Dempsey of the Baltimore Orioles' Vette when the team was on the road in 1983 and it never got up to 17,500 miles per hour. Maybe because it was white not gold. Great work of art with a little artistic license. Two great machines!

An update on the Ed White painting. I changed the clouds in the lower left corner, because I wasn't happy with the way they looked. Hopefully I have some time today to complete White's other leg and start on the Gemini.

Oh, and today is the last possibility to order a signed 'Eagle' print.

Ed I like the clarity of your colour and details. I do not know how you manage to keep you colours so bright. The detail is outstanding.

Surely better clouds, which don't converge towards the Gemini spacecraft.

Thanks Alan. This one took pretty long for my standards, because I had to find out what the nose of Gemini 4 looked like. It was different from the Gemini 7 spacecraft I used as reference.

Note that I added the 16mm camera that filmed White during his EVA. Also, I hate the guy who put the shingles on the Gemini spacecraft...

Ed, you have captured the clarity and detail of the spacecraft and Ed White perfectly. Beautiful job.

I recall researching the nose section of the Gemini IV for a painting for Gemini IV spacewalk some years ago (it sits unfinished in the closet and will likely remain so) and recall there being 3 different types of nose section on the Gemini spacecraft depending on the mission.

McDonnell Aircraft sure were not worried about artist when they designed that spacecraft. All those shingles... I am sure they were not fun.

Man, that Ed White is almost photorealistic. Awesome Ed, absolutely awesome!

You have inspired me to did out my brushes again. (Does it count as cheating if I trace an outline, lol)

Currently on my table - a different version of my Bruce McCandless MMU painting. The recent Ed White painting made me want to do another EVA scene:

Thanks for letting us "behind the scenes" of these paintings Ed... great to see how you're working, drawing and sketching!

I can confirm Ed has some other superb paintings in the works, so keep both eyes on this topic.

"A nice flying machine", 2011
30x40cm
gouache on art board

Today I completed this remake of my earlier Bruce McCandless painting. The previous one can be found further up in this thread and was made in 1995, using color pencils. Then last year I repainted the earth background.

This new one was made using paint only, which allowed me to show more detail in the shadow areas. And to distinguish it from the earlier one I made the Shuttle much larger, so that only the nose is visible.

Thanks guys. This painting has made it clear to me again how much trouble I have painting machines or mechanical things. Anything with straight lines. That is why I positioned the Shuttle so that the payload bay would be out of frame

'Lift-off', 2011
11x27cm
gouache on art board

Here is a little painting I did today on a left-over piece of art board. I used the thinnest brush I could find, but it's still too thick for the fine details.
