How do you order the Spirit of 76 patch if there are any left? Is there a website?

You can order them directly from me. I will be ordering 50 more.

Or you can purchase them from John Karns eBay store.

The ASF show this year was frankly disappointing. Due to the construction of the new Astronaut Hall of Fame, vendors were assigned a tent outside the north entrance to the Debus Center. Accordingly, many of the attendees passed us by without entering the tent.

On the plus side, I was able to gift Tom Stafford and Jim Lovell each with a patch. They seemed to like it. Thanks to Andy Chaikin, I was also able to mail one to Frank Borman.

I am pleased to report that ALL of the pending orders have shipped.

I apologize that it has taken much longer than I expected, but the doctor appointments for Lynn's illness have really taken a toll on our lives. Traveling from Titusville, to Orlando, to Gainesville and now to Jacksonville have been difficult but we are hopeful that The Mayo Clinic will be able to figure this out and come up with a course of treatment.

In the event there are still some of you who want to participate, I have 12 Hubble astronauts who have not yet been gifted a patch and I have set aside 12 patches for that purpose. After discussing this with the Association of Space Explorers, I am waiting until the end of the year to send them for mailing to each astronaut. This will accomplish two things:

  1. If you have paid to gift an astronaut and have not yet sent me your "Thank you" card to be included in the package, then you have three more weeks to get the card to me.

  2. If you have NOT yet participated and would like to purchase a large HST25th patch for yourself, I have some available for purchase.
I also have a small number of the following patches available. When they are gone I will not be re-releasing them for at least five years.
  • Apollo 13 45th
  • First Spacewalks 50th
  • USA-EVA 50th
  • HST 25th small (without names)
  • Apollo-Soyuz 40th
  • Shuttle-MIR 20th
  • Iceland Apollo Training 50th
  • Twins Study official patch
  • Tim Peake Coat of Arms commemorative
  • "Blue Gemini" official "crew patch"
  • The Spirit of 76 -Gemini Rendezvous 50th
Everything mentioned are in stock and can be shipped right away. I'd prefer to ship combined orders via Priority Mail. Domestic is $7 International is $25.

If you order only one or two small patches and they can be mailed first class, shipping is free domestic or international.

If you are interested in any of these, email me for the order form(s). First come, first served.

Thank you for your support this year. I hope you will be pleased with the offerings in 2016.

Two years ago, Jorge Cartes R and I designed "FINAL FLIGHT" our tribute to the astronauts and cosmonauts lost in the effort to explore space.

I was 90% happy with the design but I felt it still needed a little work.

Last fall, I reworked the colors a bit and reworked the sky. The 2016 version without names is still 5 inches in diameter but the larger one is now 12 inches in diameter.

There are stars for each person honored. The three stars above the moon pay tribute the Apollo 1 crew. The constellation on the STS-26 and 107 patches honor the crews of Challenger and Columbia. The twin stars below the moon are for the original Gemini 9 crew, the three stars on the right, for the crew of Soyuz 11.

The star to the left of the Andromeda Galaxy is for Komarov aboard Soyuz 1. The other stars are for the astronauts and cosmonauts lost in accidents, including Ed Givens whose star is at the very top. (Note: there's a star missing which is why I review the sample.)

The formation still represents the "Missing Man" formation but the launch now honors the return to flight missions of Discovery and the effort they required.

My goal was always to honor fallen heroes with a beautiful piece of art and now I'm confident that I've succeeded.

Mike, no where near too late. I just received the sample pictured above. By the end of the month I'll be announcing ordering details.

Hopefully there will be enough interest to have them made.

Tim, in the text you say ...constellation on the STS-26 and... Due to my information the Challenger mission was planned as STS-33, renamed as STS-51L, and than flight no. 25! Please can you check. Thanks.

As you point out, 51L was STS-33, eight flights having been canceled or postponed. When the first return to flight happened, the next mission was STS-26 (or more accurately, STS-26R.)

The seven stars on the STS-26 patch do commemorate the Challenger crew:

The predominant themes are: a new beginning (sunrise), a safe mission (stylized launch and plume), the building upon the traditional strengths of NASA (the red vector which symbolizes aeronautics on the original NASA insignia), and a remembrance of their seven colleagues who died aboard Challenger (the seven-starred Big Dipper). The patch was designed by artist Stephen R. Hustvedt of Annapolis, MD.
FYI, so do the stars on the STS-27 patch.

Thanks, but now a new question about the Russian cosmonauts — in red:
  • name - lower left?
  • name - upper left?
  • name - right side from top (4 names)
(Sorry, but Russian is not my language.)

Is it correct, when we can also say: The seven stars on the STS-114 patch do commemorate the Columbia crew?

Yes:
The STS-114 patch design signifies the return of the Space Shuttle to flight and honors the memory of the STS-107 Columbia crew.

The blue Shuttle rising above Earth's horizon includes the Columba constellation of seven stars, echoing the STS-107 patch and commemorating the seven members of that mission. The crew of STS-114 will carry the memory of their friends on Columbia and the legacy of their mission back into Earth orbit.

The dominant design element of the STS-114 patch is the planet Earth, which represents the unity and dedication of the many people whose efforts allow the Shuttle to safely return to flight. Commander Eileen Collins and Pilot James Kelly are named at the top of the insignia, with Mission Specialists Wendy Lawrence and Charles Camarda named below.

Against the background of the Earth at night, the blue orbit represents the International Space Station (ISS). Mission Specialists Soichi Noguchi, Stephen Robinson and Andrew Thomas, who will work on the Station during spacewalks, are named on the orbit. The red sun on the orbit signifies the contributions of the Japanese Space Agency to the mission and to the ISS program. The multi-colored Shuttle plume represents the broad spectrum of challenges for this mission, including Shuttle inspection and repair experiments, and International Space Station re-supply and repair.

  • VOLKOV, PATSAYEV and DOBROVOLSKY of Soyuz 11.
The constellation Big Dipper honors the seven member 51L crew. It was included in STS-26R patch to honor them.

I know that Tim relies heavily on word-of-mouth/Internet for support, so here's my 2c: I just received his patch announcements for the first projects of 2016 (including the above commemorative), and they are AWESOME, especially his new 10" Gemini program patch. If you're not already a customer, I'd urge you to contact Tim for updates and support him with your business.

Tim, when do you estimate the new 50th anniversary Gemini and GT-8 patches will be mailed? I placed an order and look forward to having them like so many other patches you have made.

Also, do you plan to make GT-9, 10, 11 and 12 50th anniversary patches?

I'll be placing my order for these at the end of February. Trying to drum up some interest. I expect to start shopping orders by the end of March.

Based on the lukewarm response to the Gemini 8, my next 50th will probably be Gemini 12. So far, I commemorated the first mission, first EVA, first rendezvous and first docking.

Sorry to hear about the lukewarm response Tim. Payment sent for a Gemini 8 patch. I'd be happy to purchase a Gemini 9-12 patch if you decide to produce them.

Today I am announcing a new commemorative. The initial launch of the MIR base block took place 30 years ago last February. Fifteen years ago today, MIR was de-orbited and was destroyed during re-entry.

MIR became the Phase 1 Program of the ISS hosting astronauts and cosmonauts from ten different nations during its lifetime.

See here for pricing and ordering details.

The Gemini Program 50th 10 inch, the two Final Flight (5 inch and 12 inch) and the Gemini 8 50th have arrived. The Challenger Anniversary patches should arrive by next week.

I realize that my customer service has suffered of late. People have had to wait too long and the response to NPA reflect the downturn. I take that feedback seriously and will address those concerns very soon in an announcement.

Towards that end, I have already ordered 50 of the MIR Anniversary patches. I won't be ordering any more.

I received my Gemini Program 50th patch today and it is AMAZING. There is so much detail on the huge patch, the photo here does not do it justice! I am super happy with it! I have to figure out a way to display it with the Gemini models I have been building!

Stunned that it's been 18 months since my last posting in this thread!

2017 was an amazing year with Spacefest, The Galactic Gathering, the "Great American Eclipse" in Nashville and a number of commissions. Also the unveiling of my Apollo 50th Anniversary Set.

I am planning to reorder my Final Flight patches, both the 5 inch and 12 inch as well as unveil two new 5 inch Memorial patches. I'm not asking for payment now but I would like those who seriously wish to order them to email me. This way I can gauge interest and order appropriately.

I plan to have large patches available for events this year.

Coming later this year is an updated Skylab Commemorative to mark the 45th Anniversary and a few other patches as well. Stay tuned...
