So how do we know if this year's dinner is going to have a theme? |

If I remember correctly it was on the web site, and in the email sent prior to the show. I'm assuming there is no theme this year. |

I think the Tropical theme is the theme every year, but I could be dead wrong.Don't worry about what to wear, I've seen people in shorts at these events next to people in three piece suits. I throw on a sport jacket and dress pants, looks good in photos of astronauts also wearing jackets. Gives me that 'I'm on his level' illusion. Talk about illusion! Lovell wore a Hawaii shirt at the dinner, no jacket, the whole night. |

Also ecstatic about Dave Scott now being on the roster. Meaning, if one wants to, at the show they can get a signature from a moonwalker from every Apollo mission that landed: Aldrin, Bean, Mitchell, Scott, Duke, and Cernan.I had an Apollo 11 earthrise that the six signed made last year and I really like how it came out, and just staring at it, and thinking of what those guys saw when they walked. |

Some of you may know this is my first AAMS. Does anyone know if the Aldrin photo op and the Bean photo op come along with the Platinum Plus ticket or is there another charge? |

According to their website the Platinum Plus includes both photo ops. |

The only reason I mention that it might not be this year was that the dinner was described this way: "Attire: Beach Formal/Cocktail 6:30 PM - 10 PM, Tropical Evening with the Astronauts Dinner" And there is no mention of tropical evening this year, but I'm sure when the confirmation emails go out that will clear it up. Bottom line, Mike is right, wear what makes you comfortable, and if you're in photo ops what you don't mind seeing yourself in for the rest of your life. |

I am also considering attending for the first time and there is a lot of great info on this thread. However I have a question that hasn't been discussed yet - what are the feelings about the Radisson Hotel? It would seem that since all the events are held there, it would be the easiest and most logical place to stay. But the reviews of that place on Tripadvisor are not too good - basically that the rooms are shabby and in need of renovation. And - dare I say it - there was even one report on bedbugregistry.com that someone found bedbugs there recently. (Hard to verify those reports, though). What are your opinions? Is that where everyone stays (even the astronauts themselves)? Thanks! |

The room I had was clean and bedbug free. I felt the facilities in general were similarly clean and well-kept. The bar is small, but well tended, and the outside pool area was great. The facilities for the Friday reception and Saturday dinner were also very nice and well maintained. The only meal I had at the hotel was breakfast, but I thought the food was very good. I travel on business, and while I've stayed a few places which are nicer, I've also stayed at much worse. I was not a fan of the Sleep Number bed, but that's not the hotel's fault.I believe many of the astronauts stay at the hotel, but I could be wrong about that. I draw that conclusion from the fact that there were a number of astronauts having breakfast in the dining room, which I have to add is pretty distracting. It's hard to nonchalantly eat your omelet when you have three moonwalkers and a Mercury astronaut sitting within 10 feet of you. |

The hotel's definitely in need of renovation. The other thing that has bugged me in my past stays is the number of people who congregate and party in the courtyards and on the exterior hallways until early in the morning. A drunken teen banged on my door at 2:30 a.m. last time I stayed there, and would not leave until I called hotel security. However, it is a convenient location, and it is where the astronauts stay - you will encounter them in the bar and the restaurant. |

I attended two years ago and I liked my room. It was comfortable, I didn't have noisy neighbors, and the pool was amazing! I was a bit too shy to go to the bar, but I've heard a lot of good stories of people chatting with the astronauts. i think that especially for the price, it's a great place to stay. |

The hotel is okay. Comfortable enough. Last year was too cold to use the pool. The bar is the best part because so many of the guests are there for the show and you never know who you are going to meet there. Aside from some nice people attending the show I seen Al Worden, Charlie Duke, Tom Stafford, Ed Mitchell and Hank Hartsfield, amongst others there. At the 2008 show Charlie Bolden came down for from his room tea for his sore throat and ended sitting next to me to watch the Texas A&M game. At the 2009 I walked into the lobby and saw Neil Armstrong looking around. He had come in with Charlie Bolden for the Apollo 12 dinner event. The staff at the bar are great and always ready with a Sam Adams when I need one. |

Speaking of the bar, would anyone be up for some sort of informal collectSPACE get together at some point during the weekend? I thought some of you are coming for the first time, and me just my second it might be nice to get to meet in 'meat space' and thereby have some friendly faces to see throughout the weekend. |

One of the potential issues with the hotel is that it is primarily used by people waiting to board their cruise ships at the port, so I'm sure they're eager to get the party started early at the hotel. However, it was interesting talking to some of the cruise-goers at the bar who were just amazed at the rest of us 'space' people and what we were doing there. |

Great idea. I'm up for it. How about Thursday afternoon or evening so we can make some new friends before the show begins? |

People attending the show and others are hanging out at the bar and lobby area all weekend long, astronauts included. Attendees are hanging in the lobby all weekend. I got insanely lucky and met and got a picture with Harrison Schmitt during last year's AAMS, I think he was there for the STS-133 launch that was scrubbed. |

I think that would be a great idea especially for the "new guys" me included being a first timer.Maybe we could all fine tune the meeting and intros nearer the date. Again that was a good call Steve. |

I would be interested in meeting some people there. Currently I only have tickets for the Saturday dinner. Due to scheduling I am not planning on getting in town until Friday afternoon/early evening. I was not going stay at the hotel (was going stay somewhere cheaper nearby to save some $$) but it sounds like it may be a bit more exciting to stay at the Raddison Both Friday and Saturday night!! |

We can firm things up as we get closer, but I'm usually down at the bar in the evenings so I'm up for anything. We could also go down to Cocoa Beach Pier. I've never been, and was thinking of going to check it out.Should we have some kind of way to identify each other as collecSPACErs? I don't think "I'll be the guy wearing the NASA shirt" is going to work for this event! |

At the show two years ago, collectSPACE provided name badges for all its members that said in advance they were coming. The badges displayed both the person's real name and their username to assist in identification and included the collectSPACE logo. For this year's show, I'm working on something a bit more permanent than the paper badges offered in 2010. |

Some kind of collectSPACE pin wound be nice.It would not need to have a user name on it, just a collectSPACE logo. It would be nice to have something that could be worn anywhere and not just for one particular event. Has anything like this been done before? |

Darn it, I am a teacher and taking off right before Thanksgiving is pretty much impossible. I would love to go to an ASF show. I have a Mercury capsule that I'd love to have Carpenter sign as well as a Lovell/Haise damaged SM photo that I hope to someday have signed with the" Houston, we've had a problem" quote. Maybe at Spacefest next year. |

Signing fees have started to be posted on the website, but Capt. Lovell's are not among them yet. Keep checking as I'm sure it will be updated as time goes on.Incidentally there are a number of special guests that I noticed were added: - Don Black
- Colin Burgess
- Calvin Fowler
- Duane Graveline
- Hugh Harris
- Bob Sieck
In addition to Dee O'Hara and Gerry Griffin who were previously listed. |

I'll be there!! I'd love a name badge (I also love the idea of something more permanent, like a pin) to help recognize other collectSPACE'rs. See you all soon!!(We have two astronauts visiting our school this Friday -- Sandra Magnus and Doug Hurley -- How COOL is that!!) |

The laminates had our names on them at ASFs Apollo 15 40th event and they were a huge help for those [me] who can be terrible with names even after meeting someone several times. Thanks! |

Glad you liked them! Their success at our anniversary events inspired us to use them at AAMS this year. Also, fyi, Sam Durrance was just added to this year's list of signers. |

Name tags are extremely handy. At the first Spacefest, the tags helped me "recognize" people I regularly chat with on the internet that I might not have otherwise recognized in person. Another neat thing was putting each person's home city on their name tag, which allowed the astronauts to see where you came from... which often elicited a story or two about a visit they made to your home city. It's nice to see the ASF show catching on to this good idea. |

Whenever I attend these shows I always wear a name tag with my name in prominent capital letters and the word AUSTRALIA underneath. I know this helps people who sometimes recognise the face but can't put a name to me. There were many times when I wish some others would have done the same. |

I'm an Aussie traveling to ASF show this year. I'm very lucky I got to get the Platinum Plus ticket with a mate of mine. Does anyone have ideas on the best autographs to get? This is my first time at this event. I have a litho of Gemini 12 but I don't think it would be worth $575? (Aldrin $400 + Lovell $175) What's your thoughts? |
