The Showmasters forum has been updated and is now showing Autographica 14 as taking place the weekend of the 11th-13th September at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham.

Now that the date is firmed up, perhaps the time is ripe to start suggesting the names for some potential guests.

I watched the Andrew Marr Show on BBC TV this morning.

One of his guests was Sqn Ldr Tony Iveson, DFC who as a Lancaster pilot with 617 Sqdn helped to sink the Tirpitz in Norway.

Sqn Ldr Iveson is one of the most youthful 90 year olds I have seen in a long while and is eneregetically leading an appeal to raise funds for a permanent memorial to Bomber Command in London.

He would make great guest and I am sure he would welcome the opportunity to publicize an issue dear to his heart.

Now that the show has been advertised I think that Dave will need to pull out the stops for the this one.

I hope with it being the 40th anniversary of the 11 landing that perhaps he could get Collins to attend. I am sure that would be a great deal if it could happen.

Looking at the flipside, Mitchell, Bean, Cernan would also be popular as ever. I would like to see Dick/Walt, they are always great to meet and always have time for the family and kids.

Any of those names you listed would be great, all would be even better!

How about Gene Kranz, Sy Liebergot and Chris Kraft, too?

I don't think Harry would do a show sadly.... He's not one for living in the past.

I'm sure if anyone had heard anything they would have mentioned it, but is anyone aware of any news about A14?

The website hasn't been changed since the last show and the Showmasters forum seems pretty quiet on the guest announcements front. Would have usually figured to have had a guest or two annnounced given the event is only scheduled to be a couple of months away

There are a number of cosmonauts from the former satellite countries which would make a fantastic group of people to have. As most those countries are now EU, there would be absolutely no visa hassles for any of them.

Plus their fees are a little more affordable...

With it being such an important year for Apollo - it would be great to see one or more Apollo Astronauts. My own personal choices would be Al Bean and Gene Cernan (I missed him last time round) also Dick Gordon - who is always a hit. Moving into dreamland - Armstrong - I know he wont sign but who cares - I would settle for just a photo and to shake his hand. Or what about Collins or Buzz - someone from Apollo 11 would be the icing on the cake.

I'm afraid you're right about dreamland. If Neil won't do a fundraiser event for the Flight Test Historical Foundation he sure as heck won't attend an autograph show (in any capacity). Mike Collins would be awesome... but Buzz Aldrin and a base fee of circa £230 wouldn't exactly draw in the punters and would surely be a suicidal thing for the show organizers to agree to.

My personal feeling is MiKe Collins would probably need to do a couple more US shows, especially an ASF one before we could realistically expect to see him attend an event in the UK.

It seems to me that Showmasters have a general policy on keeping fees realistic and that may well be a sticking point if they were looking to have Buzz Aldrin back again.

Dave Scott did pull out of the last show with the intimation he would attend a future Autographica! And I know Ed Mitchell is keen to attend having backed out several times previously; in his own words he "Owes Dave a show".

If you missed meeting Mike Collins at Spacefest 2009, you've missed him for good.

Have to admit that was pretty much my understanding, it was more of a theoretical thing thing that to even stand a chance of him appearing in the UK he would probably need to do at least a couple of US shows first and that was fairly unlikely to happen.

I believe there will be a chance to meet Mike Collins at NASM on 19th July. According to their website, he is going to be there to sign 40th Anniversary copies of 'Carrying the Fire'.

I can understand only the books being signed and even the no-photos-with policy, but no personalizations at a book signing?

It's a time issue: it is not unrealistic to expect a line 500 to 600 people long at the National Air and Space Museum. At one signing about 15 years ago, Buzz Aldrin had a line 800 people strong, and he signed a book for every one of them...

It's also fairly standard for big names, I've been to book signings for Roger Moore and Christopher Lee and both were signature only.

At our upcoming Alan Bean book signing, he will not only sign personalizations for attendees, but has been known to spend 20 minutes chatting with them. He signed until 2AM last time!

He was like that at Spacefest, which was great. I didn't mind waiting in line, because obviously he was taking the time to chat with people. I had such a good time the first time that I went back later in the afternoon to get a second item signed and had another very pleasant chat. What a swell guy!

Two things: this thread is supposed to be about Autographica 14, not a plug for US shows!

Second: keep the faith: Dave and Jason will deliver!

After a brief wobble faith suitably restored following Autographica Dave's reassurance (though Mr Bryant's endorsement as one I tend to think of as in the know does help as well!)

If it is true that Al Worden will be over in September then that pretty well rules out Dave Scott this time round.

Rumour has it they don't get on that well...

Very welcome! Col Worden is a great guy! And, as good a guest as he has been, Dave Scott has been over twice recently.

Let's be realistic and hope Rusty, Dick, Edgar and Gene feel like making the trip! (And no: I don't have ANY insider info!)

Quite right David.

Also just a 'heads up' on your list. To date, Edgar Mitchell has no plans to come over this year... I heard that from a good and very direct source. But hey, you know how things can change. I guess in such a momentous year we should be grateful that anyone from the Apollo programme will have the time to come over.

I don't think this is the case anymore, I saw them having breakfast together at the ASF show, and they seemed to be getting on just fine.

Jim Lovell was my number one choice for last year and they managed to get him, Cernan was my number one choice for this year so here's hoping!

A replica guest list of A10 would go down very nicely!
