It could well be that Scott has saturated his market as he has been there quite a lot of late, So as you say he may well be cutting it to one day to hopefully feel busier.

Is he staying for the dinner on Saturday evening I wonder?

And yes 5pm in the bar it is.... I'll be there by 4.

Maybe Col. Scott is visiting his wife's relatives and having a few days over here, dropping in on A14 for one day as a favour to the guys...

Let's be frank: one day of Dave Scott is a lot more than we get from many of the Apollo vets over here! Always a delight to meet him.

What ever he is doing I am sure he will enjoy it. He is a nice guy.

If you want to meet some more US astronauts from that era you could always travel to the USA and meet some.

Rick and I did that when we went to meet up with Dr. Edgar Mitchell which was a great experience. Something that neither of us will ever forget.

I think any UK show with two members of the same crew attending is always going to feel that bit more of an occasion. I'm guessing there isn't much chance but it would be great if they would do a joint photo session.

It was about this time line prior to the last Autographica that Dave Scott dropped out altogether.

I for one am delighted at the news he is NOT coming Sunday as it just about guarantees that he will be here for one day at least.

5.00pm it is for the drinks Saturday. Since many of us are of a certain age with a shrinking wallet and bulging wasteline I think it only fair the person with the most hair dye buys the first drinks!

Mr. Scott if you are reading this, "DON'T DROP OUT"! I have a photo with your name on it, or at least I will after meeting you on the Saturday.

I'll only have about 5 hours at the show this time... a real flying visit! If there's time after getting the few signatures that I need and the Tom Stafford photoshoot I'd be up for a beer at lunchtime!

I'll be arriving with my Dad on the Saturday morning, staying that night, and leaving Sunday evening - I'll be attending the show all day Saturday so we would both be available Saturday evening for a couple of drinks (well, I'm underage and too into sports to be drinking but I'd like to meet some of you guys anyway!)

Can't imagine to whom you're referring, but, of course, to use hair colour, you need to have some hair left!

Who's attending the dinner on Saturday then?

Don't forget guys to keep some cash up your sleeve for the Jim Lovell event in Pontefract in October. It is my understanding you will get an illustrated lecture from the man himself and Lovell will sign for free, his book "Lost Moon"; all for the price of an admission ticket.

The costs of Autographica have made me question such events but I always come back to the same conclusion...

These guys are not getting any younger. The opportunities to meet legendary figures like Jim Lovell, Dave Scott and Tom Stafford inevitably will end in the not too distant future and I would forever regret passing up the opportunity to meet them.

I missed out on a lecture by Jim Irwin in Shrophsire in the 80s... long before collectSPACE and the likes. By the time I had heard about it the tickets had sold out. Before Jim could return to the UK he had passed away.

And then there was Gordon Cooper's passing the week before Autographica...

I hope everybody thinking of going makes the effort as I suspect they will regret it otherwise.

Well said, Rick...

This is my first event, and I only decided to go for the simple reason that you yourself said - these heroes are not getting any younger, and one day I know I'd have regretted not meeting at least one M-G-A era astronaut, so I decided to make the effort this year. The same can be said about Stafford's signing fee - we can complain all we like about the price but I know that if I didn't get an autograph from him at the show,I would regret it sometime in the future for sure!

When all of us here are old men and all these men have long gone to their rest, at least we can say to our grandchildren - I met him once, and to prove it, show them the autograph and the photo - I would want to go for that reason alone!

By the way this is my 300th cS post in the 6 months or so I have been a member - I must be liking this site WAY too much!

Here Here! If anyone wants details of the Lovell event let me know. There are also a couple of other events in the offing too, one possibly in November 09 and another in April 2010 that will both involve 2 Apollo astronauts, one at each event. I wont say too much now but will let you know once all the details are finalised.

Lets have a great time at Autographica in September. Keep your eyes open and ears to the ground.

I guess if there is to be a fee for a "Gemini" completion for Autographica does anyone know what it is likely to be? At the ASF for "Gemini" Completion for Cernan and Stafford it was $450.00.

I think I will be keeping my money in my pocket.

I have a full moon photo that I want the moonwalkers to sign. Will Scott charge more to add his signature to a photo already signed by other moonwalkers?

No, Dave Scott will sign anything for the same £95 fee - this was agreed originally with Dave at Autographica a few back. So we have no reason to believe this to be any different. So multi-signed or even completions are good for that fee. Hope that helps.

How about a quote? (I'm only getting one autograph from him by the way) so will that be any extra?

Also what part of the day should Dave Scott's queue be at its shortest considering he'll only be there on the Saturday?

The only one that will charge the extra fee will be Stafford. If that item is already signed by Cernan (moon pic or not like mine is) you will get charged a higher fee, you shall also be charged higher if it's already signed by Brand and Slayton. So I have decided not to part with another £300 for the one signature.

It could change on the day though as we have seen in the past at other events, as there is usually an extra fee for inscriptions or mission numbers etc. For Tom Stafford that's listed on the ASF site.

Giving Dave et al credit they usually fix the fees before the event though which is good of them.

I've seen him add quotes for no extra fee, I think you'll be OK especially as you are only looking for one item to be signed.

As for when he will be quietest it is hard to say. In the past he's always done the whole weekend so it's not as easy to judge how this will affect his queue. There is also the added factor of him having a crew mate at the event as well.

At his last appearance I remember being able to walk straight up to him about an hour after the show opened, and there was no queue behind me. I probably could have had a decent chat with him as well but as usual my mind went blank and I could only mumble a few non sensical noises at him!

Maybe a rough rule of thumb is either try and see him before the general admission (assuming you have early bird tickets) or later in the afternoon. I wouldn't worry too much though, I think for what you're looking for there won't be a real problem.

Scott has varied his stance on what he'll sign and what he won't. He wasn't doing quotes at Spacefest 2007, but was happy to do a short inscription at the ASF show in 2008 (and presumably at Spacefest 2009) as well. I think he has relaxed a bit with each signing he's done and is more accomodating than he used to be.

Your best bet is to wait until the morning crowd thins out and his line is shorter. He'll more likely have more time for you and be willing to add a short quote to your piece.

I know it's already been said that most astronauts have a wide variety of pens, sharpies and markers at their signing table, but would they usually have silver markers (metallic or otherwise) for signing on a black sky, or would markers of those kind have to be brought by myself?

Yes, they would usually have metallic markers, but they sometimes (after a bit of use) cab become quite broad and lose the fine tip... if the signer has particularly small and tight hand writing this can be a problem as they can bleed a bit making they text not as legible as hoped. So, my advise would be to take the pens you would prefer to have them use and just ask if they would mind using your pen. I had Vance Brand use HIS gold pen on a page in my book... he has a natural shake now to his hand writing and because of that (he writes quite slowly too) the pen over flooded and now it's almost illegible. Still, I know what it says and that's all that matters - plus I have the images in my mind and the great chat I had with him will never be forgotten.

My moon pic is 16x20 glossy of a picture I took of the full moon through my telescope and it has been signed by:

Jim McDivitt. Dave Scott, Rusty Schweickart, Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean, Gene Cernan, Charlie Duke, Al Worden, Jerry Carr, Vance Brand and Dick Gordon.

Stafford would be good but at £300 (because there would be the Gemini IV completion fee) it's a bit steep I feel. That and I am going to hopefully get Ed Mitchell to sign it soon too to add to the moon walkers on it.

If Tom Stafford's fees are the same as the recent ASF signing - which we have been told is the case. Your photo SHOULD NOT cost £300.00 It will be treated as a Multi signed item. I know this because I sent my poster to the ASF signing (it has approx 22 astronauts on it) I phoned and checked as it had Cernan - GEMINI 9 completion and also Cernan and Young - Apollo 10 completion... But I was told that it was not a mission specific item so it would be the standard multi signing fee. So I have no reason to see why you should be charged £300 for a Gemini 9 completion on a multi signed image. Hope that helps!
