I'm told that there definitely WON'T be any Russians this time. But the guest list is already tempting, particularly if you're into military aviation.

Nespoli is a really nice guy too, I met him some time ago.

If Helen is the only one there it's worth the entry fee anyhows.

Much as it's good to see another astronaut added to the line-up for this show, I can't help but wonder about Dave Scott attending this event.

This is the third Autographica in a row he has attended and with all due respect to him he didn't seem to do a lot of business last time round. Without trying to re-open an old debate I'm guessing his fee size is unlikely to attract the casual collector or major numbers of repeat collectors.

Great to see Dave Scott returning again.

For me its always a matter of unfinished business as far as Dave is concerned. These frequent visits facilitate the financial outlay by doing the business in stages.

I've met David Scott once but would really appreciate the opportunity to meet one of the Apollo moon walking commanders again. To be honest if his fee is too high then don't pay it. Yeah we can all moan about the cost but how many of you would moan about a chance to meet Armstrong and pay a high fee for a one off signing event? You put a value on the autographs and you know what you are willing to pay.

True, admittedly on his second visit I got an Apollo 9 picture signed by him to go with the Apollo 15 picture I had signed on his first visit so I can appreciate having multiple items signed by him.

I realise I didn't make my point very well about the fees, I wasn't saying his fee was too high, the fact I've paid it twice will tell you that! To be honest I agree with you about signing charges, don't like 'em then don't pay 'em! I've never regretted a penny that I've spent on signing fees.

The point I was meaning to make was that it seems like a surprising announcement from the organisers point of view. I presume it is not cheap to get him over to the UK and given the level of business he seemed to do last time, which may or may not be connected to his fee I am just a bit surprised they have got him over for the third show in a row.

I'm certainly not trying to spoil anyone else's fun and I hope this means some more astronauts that perhaps we haven't seen in a while are still to be announced.

That's ok Paul I do get your point, why get the same guy three times in a row. I suppose there are people that missed the opportunity to meet him the other times.

Always a delight to meet the Scotts!

When you think about it, the chance to meet someone who flew two Apollo missions and with Armstrong on the incredible G8 mission is pretty amazing! Those of you in the UK who have never met him: this could be your last chance! If there's going to be a photo op, you definitely should make the effort!

I concur, you may as well take the chance to meet Dave Scott while you can.

Does anyone know how much the other astronauts are going to be charging this time round?

I've got the stuff I need signing from Scott already done but would be interested in how Much Helen and Rick will be charging.

Cheers
Andy

Really great news about Dave Scott coming back again... I would be happy to have him back for the next 5 in a row!!!!! With all the other shows happening on the other side of the pond, I am only too pleased that someone of Dave Scott's caliber is still willing to come over and meet us humble Brits. I have a few items that I have had signed at the previous 2 and also at NOVA but to have him back again... only means I can spread the load (financially) and have the other items that - after the last show - I wish I had him sign. Thank you to Dave and the crew for securing another great guest... 'ours is not to question, motive etc.' only to enjoy and say "WELL DONE GUYS - KEEP 'EM COMING!!!!!"

As far as I am aware Helen is charging in the region of £25.00 and Rick £30.00.

So the pound sterling has now sunk to the $1.00 value. Rick has just recently charged $30 at Spacefest!

His last two Autographica appearances were £95 so I'd be surprised if there was much difference this time round.

At today's exchange rate of 1.4002 the Spacefest $165 relates to aprox £117.84

It will be interesting to see what he does charge based on that, and yep is was £95.00 last time I had him sign anything.

But remember, based on recent events it's just a guide

cheers

As a bit of idle speculation, do we reckon there will be any more astronauts announced for this event?

Do we really want more? We have 3 quality astronauts and Helen. The budget is straining to meet the the considerable number of items lined up for each. To add more is going to create further financial pressure. There will be plenty more shows in the future.

That apart, I don't believe there will be further additions.

He is indeed a super sweet guy...and for those wishing to have Apollo 11 items autographed, remember that McCandless was Apollo 11 CAPCOM when Neil Armstrong stepped off the LM. As such he is the first person to talk to a human on another world!

There's always room for one more!

I don't disagree with you though, besides I think it was always going to be tough getting names over for this show what with finances and the number of competing events all over the place this year with the anniversary of Apollo 11. I just wanted to liven the Autographica thread up a bit!

Couple of things to bear in mind:
  1. There's no guarantee Autographica will "go on for years to come": Dave & Jason might move on like Gary did....

  2. None of the 'big' names are getting any younger: Schirra & Cooper's deaths were a shock, but, sadly, you can bet others will follow soon enough....

  3. Auto 14 (should there be one!) will still be during the 40th anniversary year / IYoA. It would be terrific to get the likes of Cunningham / Mitchell / Duke / Schweickart over in October. (IMHO!)

Totally agree on that.

My point was that there is a limit to what I can spend at any one show.

I would therefore like to focus my cash allocation on a greater number of signatures from a few and consider those astronauts to have been completed. The bigger the number of astronauts, the less complete are my requirements from each since my cash has to be spread around more.

I agree with David. If at all possible let A14 be one to remember! I think his suggestions are good ones and I would like to add Bean, Cernan and Worden too. They were such great signers when they were over last time. I would dearly love to meet them again and have them sign more items!

The other week when I spoke with the organisers they said to me that they were waiting on another 2 possibles (but didn't name any names). McCandless was then added a few days later. That does leave one other possible, but as time has passed since then, I'm guessing that may have not come to anything. But here's hoping anyway!

I thought for a delicious moment our discussion might have prompted a new space guest after seeing there was a new announcement on the Autographica forum, turns out to be an actor who was in The Stud with Joan Collins.

Oh well guess every announcement can't be Gene Cernan or Charlie Duke!

It was only a year or two back that I was wishing Dave Scott and Gene Cernan might venture over to Autographica.

Both have been over recently, not to mention Jim Lovell and Fred Haise amongst others, and I for one am delighted to meet Dave Scott again.

These shows will not/cannot go on for very much longer (with Apollo astronauts that is) for obvious reasons.

Enjoy them ladies and gentlemen while we still can...

Regards,
Rick

In general re aging, I agree with David. As I go about lecturing/speaking, I am reminded that the opportunities to interact personally with those of us who were privileged to directly participate in the "grand adventure" are dwindling as we grow older.

I think with such a busy year ahead 40th anniversary an' all... we should expect a little disappointment here and there. Great to see Sy add to our thread! If you read this - How about coming to see us soon? I didn't have the pleasure of meeting you a few years back and would love that opportunity!

Keep the faith everyone... we maybe lucky - there is still time before the April show!
