I just got "The Call" from Nolan Sims ... I'll be sitting at Eugene Cernan's table for the Banquet. Looking forward to a great time, and looking forward to meeting a bunch of you! BTW, are there any plans for an informal cS get-together sometime over the weekend? It's a pretty packed 3-4 days, but maybe it is do-able. ------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |

John, Congrats on getting to sit with Cernan! Regarding a get-together, I mentioned on another thread that we cSers should get together for a group photograph but got only one response, which was a positive one. Any other members interested? I'm thinking a good time would be right after the autograph show closes Friday and then just outside in the Rocket Garden. Other ideas?

Hi John - looks like we'll be sitting with you! Got the email this afternoon - great news, we're really happy :-) Re getting together with other cSers - We'll be staying on and visiting KSC on both the Sunday and Monday - are there other people doing similar? We'll be at the Holiday Inn from Wed - Tuesday morning.

I'm still waiting for “THE CALL”! I hope that all cs’ers (those without Platinum Tickets) can get together Friday night and celebrate a successful launch of STS-117. I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn from Wednesday afternoon until Sunday morning. Other than the Hawaiian shirts, is there a way to ID our fellow collectSPACE brothers and sisters? |

So do we get a call or email about who we have dinner with? I'm going as a "Silver" ticket holder. I don't care who I sit with, I'm just glad to get in! Yeah, I'm in for a STS-117 launch party, tell me where and when. Tom

Gene Cernan will be appearing all day Saturday but only for half a day on Friday....but which half? When will he start and when will he finish on Friday, and are those times dependent on the launch? |

I spoke to Gene who is coming to us from another engagement. He will be signing in the afternoon on Friday and will begin as soon as he gets there. Sorry but can't give you an exact time. The show runs from 9 - 5 on Friday.... ------------------ Steve Hankow http://www.farthestreaches.com |

Good luck with Cernan. I was told I'd be at Scott Carpenter's table last year but instead I wound up with Tom Jones (not that that's a bad thing, since Tom's a nice and interesting guy, but I was all fired up for Carpenter). |

I plan on attending the show on Saturday. Assuming the shuttles launches on Friday, I should have no problem purchasing a regular KSCVC pass and attending the show then, correct? I've considered purchasing a Silver package but I really want my daughter (age 8) to meet the astronauts and two Silver packages are not in the budget for this trip.

I just received "the call". As far as I know we are Gold #3 and #4. Miranda and I got our first pick at the banquet table. We wanted to set with Sy Liebergot and we were very happy to learn that his table was not filled up yet. Sy really took the time to talk with us and do us a special favor last year. It is now Saturday 2nd June. Bearing in mind that the people at the head of the "Gold pass" list were getting "the call" on 31st May, when might I (somewhere near the bottom of the "Silver pass" list) expect "the call"? I'll be leaving home for the show in a mere 80 hours. Sorry to press - I can only guess how busy Nolan and Steve are - but time is running out! |

I am pleased to announce that for those attending our event, you will have the option of purchasing a $15 ticket at a designated ticket booth which will offer you causeway viewing of the STS-117 launch. While a generous number of tickets have been held for our show guests, they are not unlimited so tickets are being offered on a first come, first served until they are gone. Of course, all of our guests are welcome to watch the launch for free from the main campus - which will be set up with bleachers and stadium style LED TV. We look forward to seeing you there. I expect this will be a most memorable experience for us all.... ------------------ Steve Hankow http://www.farthestreaches.com |

I was just thinking that us CollectSpace people should have name tags or some kind of identifying marking or something. That way we would have an easier way of meeting each other in person. I guess probably most of the show could be people on this group anyway, so maybe it won't be an issue. :-) |

I'm very excited as the weekend draws near! Had a question for the group. Haven't heard much about what people are bringing to get signed. (What are people bringing that is unique?) I have a Skylab Final Flight Plan for SL-1 and SL-2 (the unmanned launch, and then the first Skylab mission SL-2). I would like Paul Weitz to sign it (obviously), but I was wondering... with so many other Skylab astronauts in one place - should I have the others (Gibson, Pogue, Lousma, and Carr) also sign it - or is this 'inappropriate' since the flight plan is for SL-2 only (Weitz's flight)? Just curious on people's thoughts. Also, I got "The Call" yesterday - I'm a Silver Pass holder, and I'm sitting with Paul Weitz! Thanks for your thoughts... - Albrecht |

I like that name tag idea. I don't think I will be wearing a Hawaiian shirt at any time other than the gala. They just don't look good on me. I had another question. This might have been covered already but I just wanted to ask about it. I have a causeway pass I was able to get through my senator's office. The bus for the viewing site is not leaving from KSC but rather from Merritt Square mall. I see that is only about 5 miles from the Courtyard where I will be staying. I intend to go to the show Friday morning but would have to leave early enough to go back to the hotel briefly and then head to the mall to catch the bus. Do we know if there will be any road closures that might make getting back to Cocoa Beach difficult? I would leave plenty of time to account for traffic. The bus leaves at 3:30 pm. Is there some point at which the visitor complex will be closed to incoming visitors on launch day? I would expect to be at the show by 9 AM but am wondering if someone is delayed for some reason, can we still get in later in the morning prior to launch? |

The following is excerpted for a NASA release detailing the road closures: quote: State Road 3 from the Gate 2 Pass and Identification Building to State Road 405 (NASA Causeway) via Space Commerce Way will be closed on launch day, June 8, beginning at noon. NASA Causeway between the KSC Visitor Complex and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame will also be closed starting at that time. Only badged employees and guests with passes will be permitted access. These roads will reopen approximately two hours after launch.
In other words, unless you have a car pass to access to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, then after noon on Friday you will not be able to get to the show. Likewise, you will not be able to exit the KSCVC and return to Titusville/Cocoa Beach/Merritt Island after 12 p.m. EDT on Friday. |

Steve: First time to KSC. Got a few questions. If I purchase a causeway pass at the show how do I get there? Does the pass allow you to drive to the causeway site? Will the general pass to the show allow me to purchase the passes? Do I need a pass for each person? I'm planning on bringing a camera, binoculars, and some collapsable chairs so carrying them around all day Friday won't be easy. |

In reply to questions: If I purchase a causeway pass at the show how do I get there? Does the pass allow you to drive to the causeway site? Causeway tickets allow you to board a bus at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for the causeway. You may not drive there. Will the general pass to the show allow me to purchase the passes? I believe Steve earlier wrote that anyone with a badge/bracelet allowing admittance to the autograph show would be eligible to purchase causeway tickets on a first come, first served basis. Do I need a pass for each person? Yes, causeway tickets are valid for only one person per ticket and unless specifically marked, only good for one launch attempt providing it does not scrub before boarding the bus. |

Steve asked that everyone be made aware of the latest update at http://www.autographshows.net Special Important Announcement Regarding STS-117 Launch Viewing We are pleased to announce that for those attending our event, you will have the option of purchasing a $15 ticket at a designated ticket booth which will offer you causeway viewing of the STS-117 launch. While a generous number of tickets have been held for our show guests, they are not unlimited, so tickets are being offered on a first come, first served until they are gone. Of course, all of our guests are welcome to watch the launch for free from the main campus - which will be set up with bleachers and stadium style LED TV. We look forward to seeing you there!!! Special Important Announcement Regarding Pickup Of Purchased Ticket Packages Ticket packages (Platinum, Gold, Silver and Basic) that were purchased too late to be mailed, may be picked up on a "Will Call" basis. They will be available for pick up beginning late Wednesday afternoon (6/6/07) at the Holiday Inn Resort at Cocoa Beach (see address below). You will need to present a photo ID in order to receive your ticket packages. Special Important Announcement Regarding Impact Of Launch On VIP Reception Or Saturday Gala Banquet If launch remains scheduled for Friday, June 8 or is rescheduled or postponed until Saturday, June 9: - You should plan to bring any items you desire to have during the launch (e.g. camera, tripod, binoculars) with you when you depart for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in the morning. You will not have enough time to return to the hotel between the autograph show ending and the targeted launch time. Further, it is likely that the buses running between the Visitor Complex and the hotel will not resume return service until after the launch attempt has been completed.
- If the launch remains scheduled for Friday evening, theVIP reception at the Holiday Inn Resort at Cocoa Beach (for Platinum Ticket holders only) will be delayed until after the launch attempt is over.
- If STS-117 launches on Friday, then the Saturday evening gala will remain at the Apollo Saturn V Center. If you are a ticket package holder, you may take the bus from the hotel straight to the gala. If you are driving your own vehicle, you will need to drive to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, go through the ticket pavilion and look for signs for special bus boarding to the gala. You must be on time, as the last bus will leave 20 minutes prior to the gala start time.
- If the launch is rescheduled for Saturday evening, then the banquet will move to the Debus Conference Facility at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
- For either day, if you are not taking the provided bus transportation from the hotel to the Visitor Complex, you will need to obtain a car pass which may be obtained (for our attendees only) on a "Will Call" basis at the Holiday Inn Resort Cocoa Beach beginning late afternoon on Wednesday June 6, 2007. You will not be able to drive to the Visitor Complex without one of these passes (unless you have obtained separate launch viewing tickets, i.e. causeway passes).
- If the launch is rescheduled for Saturday evening, then the banquet may likely move to the Debus Conference Center at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. As with the personal items that you desire for the launch, you should plan to bring with you in the morning the clothes you wish to wear to the banquet, as returning to the hotel may not be possible. It is expected that the astronauts will attend the gala as otherwise planned.

This is very helpful information. There are a couple of items I was hoping to clarify prior to leaving tomorrow: 1. Since I will be arriving very late Wednesday evening (after midnight) and staying at Holiday Inn, I won't have the chance to check on how the next morning's shuttle to KSC will be scheduled (the show site schedule says "Convene at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for Tour and lectures," but not what time nor where to be ready for the shuttle transportation. 2. For the lectures, it's clear that Plat and Gold members may attend, but not necessarily whether any pre-registration will be necessary. Anyone have idea on either/both of these? Thanks. |

tncmaxq, I'm not sure if you're aware of this. I'm betting your "causeway" pass may very well be a pass to view the launch from the VIP bleachers outside the Apollo/Saturn V Center from about 3 1/2 miles away, hence boarding a different bus at the mall. I wrote my congressman last year and got passes for STS-115 that also stated they were "causeway" passes. I assumed they were for the causeway between KSC & Canaveral, but found out that they were for the Banana Creek VIP section! What a view! |
