In the new documentary, "Live from the Moon: The Story of Apollo Television", astronaut and capsule communicator (CAPCOM) Joe Allen ponders out loud what Galileo, Kepler and Newton might have made of the news that humans had traveled into space."They would think it might be possible," expounds Allen. "If we would then tell them that we humans had captured images, where the motion was captured as well, they would think that's a miracle." It is the story of that "miracle" that director Mark Gray set out to tell in "Live from the Moon." |

I can categorically state that this will be a brilliant documentary. Mark has spent alot of time on it, and has gone to great lengths to present the story accurately. If all things go smoothly, I will have a book out mid year covering the same theme. Obviously between both formats, a book can cover more in depth topics than a 2 hour presentation whereas the drawback of a book is you can't watch video and Mark's doco has plenty of footage. For those of you interested there will be material in both media formats which will make your mouth water. My jaw hit the ground when I uncovered many things during the research I conducted for my project. I imagine Mark had the same reaction upon discovering his previously unknown material. Both Mark and I have consulted each other in the quest to bring out the best material possible. So the two products will hopefully beautifully complement each other. Anyway, this is Mark's moment. I urge all of you to see the film when it screens. It will be well worth it. |

More than anything else, Apollo for me is the live TV transmissions. In the pre-internet age there wasn't anything else to follow the mission, except maybe the newspaper coverage. I can say that I saw all of the transmissions in realtime (yes, I am THAT old).I am really looking forward to Mark's documentary as well as Dwight's book on the subject. |

Filmed using advanced direct high-def film-to-tape transfers, it features stunning visuals in HD, and rare material, with advanced digital enhancement of Apollo TV transmissions. Largely shot on location, the film focuses not only on the U.S. but in Australia, where much of the original video was downlinked from the moon. Apollo astronauts and technicians are extensively interviewed on-camera to flesh out the story. Everything that Mark and "Spacecraft Films" do is just TOP QUALITY. It has to come out on DVD/Blu Ray. Cant wait. |

I believe they said it was going to be late Spring, but I'm not 100% sure. They did say that the DVD will contain the footage that ended up on the cutting room floor, making the entire DVD about twice the length of the actual film itself. It was a WONDERFUL film! Really made you remember those days! And what a thrill to be sitting and watching it within arm's reach of Andy Chaikin, who was one of the stars of the film! |

It was indeed a superb film. Kudos to Mark and whoever else is helping him (he can't be doing this ALL himself, can he?) for an excellent, accessible and most of all moving story of what could easily have been a dry piece of technical work.Definitely want the Blu-ray!! |

Good news about the future DVD release of "Live From the Moon", but I'm slightly puzzled by the reference to Andrew Chaikin as "one of the stars of the film." Is he the narrator or does he interview the people involved in the development of TV from the Moon? |

There were also live audio transmissions on the "Voice of America" which I regularly followed on an old short-wave radio, complete with glowing valves. I remember sitting glued to that set listening to Dave Scott's description of the Hadley-Apennine site during his (sound-only) stand-up EVA. Also, Gene Cernan and Jack ("Who's been tracking up my lunar surface?") Schmitt at the beginning of EVA-1 before they set up the TV camera. But you're right - it was the TV transmissions which are indelibly etched on the memories of those of us privileged to watch live. Happy days! |

Andy was one of the interviewees, and as you would expect, had some wonderful insights into Apollo television. He ended up having the final word prior to the first step and also the final word in the film.I'll have more news on DVD/Blu-ray release as soon as we pin down distribution, which we are working now. Thanks to everyone who came and saw the film. I was pleasantly surprised at all the people waiting to enter when it came time to show it, and very happy at all of the positing reactions. Thank you. |

Mark, your film was really outstanding. It was visually striking, told a good story (especially the Australian segments and the technical details of the cameras which made the color TV understandable), had newly restored pictures, and was a great capture of the sense of excitement at the time. The film received thunderous and prolonged applause at Space Fest. It is clearly a labor of love, and I hope that it receives the wide distribution it deserves. |

I am going to buy the DVD of "Live from the Moon" but I am also contemplating buying the Blu-Ray version too for the time in the not so distant future that I get a Blu-Ray player. My question... Is the Blu-Ray version Region Free? I live in the UK and I understand that as yet there are no multi-region Blu-Ray players on the market. |

I can't speak for Mark regarding the new Blu-ray TV doco, but all his DVDs have been region free. I can definitely confirm that all of them play in my ultra-finicky PS3 with nary a problem. |

Mark, Dutch TV is planning an Apollo 11 night in July, with a look back at the events of 40 years ago. I sent them a link to your 'Live from the Moon' and said that would be a great program to show first and then air a repeat of the complete moonwalk. I hope they will follow up on that, but if they don't it isn't my fault.  |

Here it comes folks! I see on the Spacecraft Films' website that the Blu-ray of "Live from the Moon: The Story of Apollo Television" is coming out no later than July. Can't wait for this one.Also, it appears that if you pre-order, you get your name in the credits. Another first for Spacecraft Films. I'm pumped up for this one. |

Yes, but is the BluRay version "all-region." All previous releases were "all-region" but this is Bluray. A lot of us in the UK want clarification before we commit. |

As with all of our previous DVDs, all Blu-ray discs that we produce will be region free, including the Live From The Moon sets. |

Apologies for the late notice, but for those in the area, the Kansas Cosmosphere is hosting a sneak preview of "Live From The Moon" on May 23: Sneak Preview of "Live from The Moon," a new documentary by Director Mark Gray explores the story behind the TV coverage surrounding the first Moon landings and how the technology to broadcast live from the Moon came into play during that era. Show times at 10:30 am, 1 pm and 3 pm followed by questions and answers with producer Mark Gray. |

For those of you in the Washington, DC area, we will be showing "Live From The Moon" this Saturday (July 18) and Sunday (July 19) at Noon at the Newseum as part of their Apollo 11 family day.I will be there on Saturday to introduce the film. (And in anticipation of the question, the DVD and Blu-ray are in the works... and we're clear to release them very soon) |

We're getting closer. I had to reject the check disc on disc 2 (the extras), but have now approved the second check disc, so we should have a final delivery date next week. |

I was referring to the DVD set. The DVD set is a two disc set, for the bluray 1 disc contains all.The blu-ray is in authoring. All of the parts are (finally) properly encoded, but right now we do not have an in-house solution to author blurays, so the authoring is taking place at the replicator. My expectations at present are that we'll have blurays here around Thanksgiving (US). |

I'd like to take a minute to say, terrific job with LFTM. After seeing some of the Apollo 11 footage, which looked enhanced, I look forward to the release of the Apollo 11: To The Moon DVD set. |

I was saddened to learn tonight that Stan Lebar, who developed the Westinghouse Apollo lunar surface camera, and who was featured extensively in Live From the Moon, died this afternoon.Stan was an extraordinary man, and his friendship was one of the highlights of producing the program. Thank you, Stan. You will be missed. |

I loved it, really really good, much more then I'd hoped for. You did a fantastic job guys. It left me feeling melancholy for those wonderful days of my youth, and especially staying up all night during not just Apollo 11's walk, but also 13's engine burn, 16's delayed landing and those final three EVAs on Apollo 17 - all happening during the small hours here in the UK, fantastic memories all again re-kindled by this DVD.And I get a name-check in the inner sleeve list! Thank you SF, worth every penny. |

Well, we have been waiting for a long time for this one and now it will be out and into our mailboxes. Per the website, the Spacecraft Films Live From The Moon Blu-ray ships this week. I for one can't wait to see this.How exciting! |

Could you tell me where on the SF website it gives the shipping date? All I can see is "begins shipping in late April" which has been there for a few weeks - since Mark updated the site with excerpts of the remastered EVA footage. |

We're very close to starting to ship them... we just need to configure them with the free Apollo 11 DVD and make sure we have a process set up at the shipper to differentiate between the DVDs and the Blu-rays.Thank you for your patience on this one. It has been a journey, to say the least! |
