I must say, if I had known it was going to be this much of a nightmare, I never would have done a blu-ray.

You're all getting your blu-ray copies, along with the free copy of the restored Apollo 11 EVA. I've been promised many things by the replicator on this thing that haven't been met, and I understand your frustration. I'm frustrated as well - the actual project was complete about 8 months ago. You seem to think I'm orchestrating this on purpose in some way, and that it doesn't bother me deeply that something I've passed on to my very good core customers hasn't been met.

I trust that as you get your discs you'll post your receipt, and I'm sorry that this project has been such a problem for you.

Thanks Mark for the update. Don't let this bad experience put you off more Blu Ray projects.

By the way, I've been asked by many customers concerned about this set why I haven't been more "forthcoming" about "what is going on."

I suppose that is really asking "why haven't I passed along excuses for my problems with getting this set out?" I fully understand a couple of things relating to this issue:

1) Problems that I have had in terms of false information and dates not being met by my replicator are my problems, not my customers. So I haven't seen fit to pass these along. My customers bought an original documentary that we produced on a blu-ray. The background of how I supply that is my issue. The only reason I'm saying this now is to answer the question of honesty. I've always acted on the very best information I've had, on my realistic expectations.

2) I fully understand that I exacerbate this issue by pre-selling products. All I can say is that you're absolutely correct... and add that if I didn't pre-sell these products, none of them would exist in this - a niche that is so very narrow.

If I hadn't already been so deeply and irretrievably connected to this replicator financially on this project, I would have detached and moved to another several months ago. I shall never use them again, in fact I've already had a project since placing this one that I've taken elsewhere.

This is about as forthcoming as it is possible to be.

I am truly hopeful that my blu-ray experience (right now I HATE the damned things) can be chalked up to first-time problems and one poor decision. The wise thing for me to do is probably to jump back into a blu-ray project very soon to see if the workflow can be smoothed. We'll see.

Just got word from Mark that my Blu-ray will ship today! I'll let you know when the order status has changed from 'in progress' to shipped.

This might happen after all!

Mine says "in progress" also. This is a change from "holding" and is a good sign. My feet are tingling!

I hate to say I told you all so, but...

Yes, but where are the reviews from the people whose Blu-rays were being shipped in early July? I quote from the SCF blog for 3rd July: "We have begun shipping... We are shipping these as fast as we can in the order in which the orders were received..."

It is impossible to interpret those comments as anything other than confirmation that part of the order (not just one or two samples to the press) went out in July. So who got them?

Saturn V, your feet may be tingling, but on 24th March 2009 (!) you were "pumped up for this one" because "...the Bluray is coming out no later than July..[2009]" That's a long time to be pumped up! You added: "I hate to say I told you all so but..."

Believe me, nobody will be happier to get egg on his face than I will, but if it happens, Mark Gray will be the boy who cried wolf...

By the way, Saturn V, if you ordered in October, 2009, you're WAY behind me in the queue!

As I've said many times before, we received a portion of our printing earlier in the year and shipped those. Since that time the replicator has missed many promised dates.

I received an email the other day from a friend at a major studio saying they've been having issues with blu-ray production as well. And they actually have the power to move replicators on their issues. I am so small that I have virtually no power with them, especially after I am committed to them financially on a project.

Members of this board represent a very, very small portion of those original pre-orders. As we have received the remainder (bulk) of our printing most of the sets are being shipped now. Given the number of sets we shipped with the first discs we received from the replicator, it doesn't surprise me at all that no members of this board were in those shipments.

And 'shipped'!

Mark, thank you for the good communication the last few weeks. I'm sure it was just as frustrating for you as for the waiting customers. Very much looking forward to the bluray as I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

Pumped is different than feet tingling.

Feet tingling is kind of like spidey sense in that I can tell something is coming. I must admit that it is a little anticlimactical at this point but I am still very eager to get the movie and watch it.

To keep me going I have been re-watching the Apollo 15 set. It has been a long time since I have had a chance to see a new SF set - I have all of the rest of them except Apollo 1.

I don't really care what order the blu-ray comes in as long as I get one and I have complete confidence that I will.

Well, in the interests of fair play it is only right that I mention that I have now received an email telling me that "...your order...has been upgraded to a status of shipped...." It's an odd form of words which only tells me that the order has been upgraded. It doesn't actually tell me that the Bluray has been stamped and popped into the post. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and I will be awaiting its arrival with particular interest, and reporting to cS. I can't help wondering whether this "status upgrade" simply proves Basil Fawlty's point that "...if you want to get something done...you've got to complain till you're blue in the mouth!"

Disk received yesterday, 10/9/2010!! I originally ordered it on 3/22/2009. I've watched the first 30 minutes and the quality of the production is first rate!

From the razor-sharp scans of the still images to the upconverted downlink video, the quality is stunning. The attention to detail in the production and interviews is outstanding.

It's a shame the replication supply issues caused so much frustration. I look forward to future Blu Ray releases with the supply issues addressed.

I received mine Friday and watched it that night. As Gregster points out the quality of this disk is stunning! It seems to be the sharpest picture I've seen off my Blu ray player. The animations produced for the documentary are fantastic, the writing/editing is very well done and it's just wonderful to see Stan Lebar interviewed. For those who don't know Mr. Lebar, key to the development of the lunar TV technology, passed away recently. Overall this is a 10 out of 10 - superb. Thank you Mark!

But what is this about getting your name in the credits?! I must have missed that post.

Received my copy today (Tuesday 12th). A superb documentary, well worth the wait. The image quality is superb: the HD content, photo scans, animations, upsacled TV and the film record look better than ever. This film tells the story perfectly - well done Mark, now tell those replicators what to do with themselves and get to releasing more HD content real soon.

Received my copy on Oct. 8 and was able to review it over the weekend (I watched it twice!). As the other reviewers have said, this is a top-notch professional presentation. The story, interviews, graphics, film, editing, etc., are all fantastic. I know there were issues with the Blu-Ray replication, but I certainly hope this doesn't preclude Spacecraft Films from producing additional Blu-Ray features in the future.

I am looking forward to seeing this video. It is a subject I've been fascinated with since attending a program that I learned about on collectSPACE. The Reunion of Apollo 11 Lunar Camera Team was held on the 35th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing, and featured a live demonstration of the lunar surface TV camera.

I put my order for the Blu-Ray in on June 3 of this year and still haven't received my copy. I've sent at least 3 emails asking for clarification on shipment but have not heard a peep back from them to this day.

You know, I understand when there are technical problems with manufacturing, and so the fact that there was a delay doesn't bother me a bit. But it does bother me quite a bit that no one could apparently be bothered enough to reply to my queries about the delay - after they've already taken my money - for a product they are having trouble shipping out. Mark, you could at least have sent a short note saying "hey, sorry, we're working on it, and here's a link to the blog posting explaining what the problem is".

I just now found this discussion thread, so only now do I find out the reason why I have had to wait four months (4 months and counting that is). Mark, as one businessman to another, really, this is something you need to work on.

Arjuna: Welcome. Have some patience, the film is well worth the wait. I think we space geeks are fortunate to have a vendor like Spacecraft Films serving our tiny niche.

By the way, a Google search for "live from the moon blu ray" has this thread as its first hit.

Arjuna, can you help me with a bit of troubleshooting? I have no emails from you, dating back through June. Was there a particular link you used to send us an email? We weren't "not bothering to respond," as I go through and clear email quite often. Perhaps there's a bad link that I haven't found.

Thanks for your help.

I love this video disk. I do have one question, though. In one preview there is an excellent CGI rendering of the LRV mounted camera following the LM during lunar liftoff. This scene does not appear on the disk. Why was it cut? Granted, the scene is just a few seconds long and the actual downlink footage that appears on the disk tells the story quite well. Just wondering. Here is the link to the site with the preview I mentioned. Click on "Preview" to see it.

Thanks for the comments. I did get an email from Mark today as a result. I appreciate the communication. (FYI, I was using info@spacecraftfilms.com as the address.)

As I said before, I understand how projects such as this can get delayed through no fault of the producers (in this case, Spacecraft Films). All I expected was a reply to my queries to make sure that my order wasn't lost, and some general update on what was going on. So no worries, all is forgiven - these things happen. I look forward to getting the disc. Ultimately, the bottom line is that I'm glad Spacecraft Films is around to provide these kinds of products.

I'll be back to give my review after watching LFTM, and I expect it will be a big thumbs up.

If I recall correctly I cut that sequence because I didn't have precisely the right sequence in which to use it, and ultimately didn't care for the way it looked in full resolution when compared to the real footage, but I did leave it in the previews.

As for shipping times, it is probably the differential between priority mail and first class, although I didn't check so I don't know for sure. Whatever day the status changed to shipped is the day it went into the mail stream.

I'm happy to report that my bluray has arrived safely last week including the free bonus dvd.

The documentary and picture guality is absolutely wonderful, I would almost say it has been worth the wait.

Thank you Mark and I hope that your past experiences won't put you of on future bluray projects!

I received my copy of the Blu-ray yesterday and proceeded to watch it last night - excellent movie! Great interviews with folks we don't get to see very often (if at all) on a subject never covered before in any movie that I know of. It makes a great addition to my collection and I think it is the best so far from Spacecraft Films.

Superior quality in both video and sound as it appears that Mark made good use of the HD capabilities of Blu-ray.

The movie moved very quickly in the beginning going from one scene to the next but soon settled down to a speed that is more of the documentary type but still grabs you and keeps you interested to see what is next. As a whole, this movie made me want more (as all SF movies do) but I can't argue with the length of it as I believe the entire thing with extras was at least two hours long.

The only thing I'm not sure of is seeing Al Bean's head four feet tall in HD on my big screen in my theater. I had to move back to the back row of seats to watch the extra interview footage.

A++

It's only fair that I now confirm safe receipt of my Bluray plus bonus Apollo 11 EVA disc. I had to pay an extra £11.20 (about $17.75) on import VAT and "Royal Mail handling fees" but that's hardly the fault of SCF. I watched the Bluray this morning. Credit where credit is due: the film is wonderful, the picture quality excellent and the various anecdotes told by assorted astronauts, TV experts and Mission Control people are beautifully presented and on occasions deeply moving. But to put the long delay into context: the gap between my ordering and paying for the disc and my receiving the disc is greater than the gap between the launch of Apollo 7 and the splashdown of Apollo 13! I could say more, but I've got my disc. It's a great film. Let's leave it at that.
