Anyone going to this event from the UK/Europe? If so would anybody help me get Charlie Duke's autograph on a FDC? Many thanks. |

I'll be there, and can handle getting a few small items signed (paper/books okay, just no boots, helmets, etc., would need to fit with all my stuff).I got a few cS'er items signed by Bean, Lovell, Seddon and Cernan last November. [Addendum]: I've got 'dates' with Lovell, Stafford, Lousma and Worden so I can only commit to getting additional items signed for those 4 astronauts for this year. |

Kent Rominger has been added to the autograph show. Great add ASF. Keep it up. The more new shuttle astronauts the better. |

Right on, and some ISS astronauts in the mix would be outstanding.I've booked my tickets so I sure hope there are no more cancellations. |

I'm going again but it won't be quite the same without Gene Cernan and Fred Haise there. |

FYI. For those looking for a Gene Cernan signature... I will have a few of the signed, limited edition, slip-case versions of "Marketing the Moon" available at my signing table at the event. Gene signed them as author of the book's introduction. We only produced 100 of these at around break-even pricing. Only a few left. Issue price: $295, which is below his normal signing fee, and you get the book and slip-case, too (not to mention signed by both David and myself). Plus, it will help benefit the ASF. So if any cSers are interested, and will be in attendance, please stop by and ask about it. First come, first served. |

Some of the names of the astronauts listed as attending (like Norm Thagard, for example) don't even show up on the autograph pricing page. I know that some of the prices still have to be filled in on that page, but why aren't the names of all of the attendees listed? I am hoping to get someone to get one or two photos of Thagard signed for me, so it would be helpful to get his fees posted. Thanks. |

Some of the astronauts attending are not participating in the autograph show (which is only one day of the three-day event).Thagard is taking part in the evening celebration of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project but not in the autograph show. |

The Lovell, Lousma, Stafford, Worden task seems to have fallen through, so I'm open to any interested cS'er requests - just plan on mailing them to my office (Greensboro Pediatricians). |

Only a little over two weeks til the show and there haven't been any updates for awhile. I'd like to find out pricing on Duke and Lovell. Also what are the hours of the autograph show? Seems like it was 10-4 last year but I'd like to find out for sure. |

After all of the ASF Autograph and Memorabilia shows it seems like we almost take them for granted. I remember the first one where Robert teased us for months about something new (and some other things that I forget). Now the posts are fewer and seem to be more focused on logistics rather than the pure enthusiasm that we had for the first few shows. Next week I will be in the company of men who flew to the moon, and shuttle astronauts (women and men) who did many amazing things; deployed Hubble and Chandra, serviced Hubble, made EVA's look ho-hum, and on and on. I still get excited about spending time with these great explorers. The new format for this year looks very interesting and promising for another great weekend. Thanks ASF!!! |

Well said - I frankly do take the show for granted (many thanks to the ASF staff), but I always presume anyone MAY not show up and consider myself quite fortunate to have the opportunity to meet those that do make it. The ASF show is a great excuse to wallow in space nerdliness with heroes, icons, scientists, engineers, and those that support a great scholarship program dedicated to some amazing students. |

Unfortunately I wont be able to attend this year's show. Looks like a great lineup. The thing I take away from these shows as much as meeting the astronauts and attending the events is the friendships I have made with people who have a mutual interest. Mel, Tad, Bill, Steve, Bruce, Robert and many others. Next year! |

Another thing I've enjoyed about the show is the enthusiasm evident in so many of the kids at KSC, even if not in the autograph hall - they especially enjoy questions-after-lectures and the gift-shop signings. |

Bummer about Ed Mitchell, I hope he is okay. I also noticed that they have had Charlie Precourt's photo on the Special Guests page but he is not listed attending any event. I hope that the autograph show pricing TBAs get listed soon. It would be nice to plan out my budget for the show! |

I just looked at the ASF website and all tickets and add-on's are "out of stock." Great news! Way to go Tad for getting that ticket before it was too late.So glad that I chose Ed Mitchell for dinner last year. Many thanks to Mike at Moonpans to get my Apollo 10 map to me in record time so I can get Tom Stafford to sign it. Is this fun or what? |

I'm really looking forward to this years show, particularly since I'll be there with local writer Jonathan Ward (cS: ilbasso) who originally talked me into going to the annual ASF shows. At this point I'm committed to getting items signed by Lovell, Lousma, Stafford, Duke and Worden so I really can't take any more cS requests. |

For any cS'ers attending the show, I'll be bringing some extra books for free giveaway: - Aerospace Pilot by Charles Coombs (scarce old hardcover, looks great with intact near-fine dust jacket)
- RR Auction catalogs (like new) #396 November 2012, #409 May 2013, #419 November 2013
- A Man On The Moon (Oversized Andrew Chaikin 3-volume books): Vol.1 (2 copies), Vol.3 all with sl.dust jacket wear (great to fill in a set or upgrade one volume).
- Skylab Explores the Earth (Large NASA publication, foxing on top edge of pages o/w looks great) - I may leave this one with Lousma unless someone really wants it.
I usually get rid of 'extra' stuff at the show, often through astronauts to have to hand out to kids that would appreciate it. I'll have a cS patch, OSIRIS-REx lanyard and black bag, or just email me. |

I enjoyed the ASF show this year. All the attendees were extremely nice. It was my fourth straight year and hopefully they'll continue to get shuttle guys like Ferguson to attend. My criticisms are that the one day show makes it impossible to meet everyone and is just exhausting for someone like me who gets big items signed. Also the middle aisle of attendees was way too cramped. I couldn't even move through it most of the day. Lastly as a way to generate donations, have an early morning or late afternoon time where you offer group photos with different astronauts at a cost. I don't want to pay for individual photos but I would have paid $20-$50 for a photo with Bean and Gordon or Lovell and Lunney or other people that make sense. Just do it for half an hour or so or only offer 25 to 50 photos and make people use their own cameras. Just an idea. |

This was a great event and I can't believe there are not more posts. I just completed compiling my notes from the event and will share one of the great stories that I heard. I'll post another good one after someone else shares an experience from the show.Dan Brandenstein shared his two most famous space quotes. Steve Hawley on STS-41D, "I thought we'd be a lot higher at MECO" after an on the pad engine failure and abort. Michael Griffin to a reporter who was having a difficult time understanding a technical concept that Griffin was trying to explain to him; "I can explain it for you but I can't understand it for you." I think Dan joined us in the bar every night of the event. Great guy!! |

It was a different show this year. There was more substance to the event. The panel discussion on the Orion Project and the SLS on Thursday evening were informative as was the CST-100 spacecraft tour at the former OPS facility that Boeing operates now. The Hubble 25th Anniversary panel discussion at Eastern Florida State University planetarium was great. As a side note, I noticed that the Apollo 15 landing site plaster model used in the LM simulator on display there too. I am told that the breakout sessions on Friday morning were good. I missed being in the audience that day. I had a great time seeing astronauts, but it was even better just to hang with friends that I hadn't see for awhile. I wish more friends had shown up. |

Finally; I was giving up hope. Here's another good one. From Steve Hawley. After a hurricane came through Houston there were many people who tried to defraud insurance companies claiming damage not caused by the hurricane, which made commander Hank Hartsfield mad. So JR got Hank to come down to the crew office one day where they had desks and when Hank arrived Mike Mullane was on the phone pretending he was talking to his wife. He was telling her to put the water hose in through the window and let it run for about 10 minutes so there would be enough damage to get insurance. “That should be enough” he said to his wife. Hank hit the ceiling. Gotcha! |

Better late than never:2015 ASF show - immediate differences were new host hotel (Hilton), changes in entry and access (related to HOF renovations), short expert lectures, and visiting ASF scholars. Inclusion of ASF scholars was surprisingly good — they're bright and talented younger folks in exciting fields, and enthusiastic about discussing their field of study along with a wide range of other topics. I enjoyed meeting several to learn about the SLS, SpaceX, and astronomy/cosmology, particularly Larry Bradley from JHU. He also participated in the Hubble 25th Anniversary Panel which included Tom Akers, Kathy Thornton, Steve Hawley, Jeff Hoffman and Michael Griffin. Thornton pointed out that while repairing Hubble in pressure suits was somewhat difficult, it was easier that doing it without pressure suits... Of course it was great to see some of the usual suspects (Alan Bean, Tom Stafford, Jim Lovell, Charlie Duke, Ed Gibson, Jack Lousma, Dee O'Hara, Walt Cunningham) and a few less-often seen (the return of Gregory H. Johnson as well as Mary Cleave, an impressively intelligent character whom I was lucky enough to sit next to for dinner 2014). This year I shared a table with Kent Rominger, and several of us at the table stayed quite late to learn more about the SLS and near-future space endevours. ASF sold out all their tickets, so presumably next year's show will be as big or bigger — more space in the middle aisle next year please. For next year I'd hope the retailers-exhibitors wind up in the same building as the signers, preferably with the return of the KSC book shop, which would be very helpful for last minute arrivals such as Charlie Precourt and Gregory H. Johnson. Besides the call for more Apollo legends (this year Ed Mitchell had to cancel his appearance, Gene Cernan was busy nearby with "The Last Man On The Moon" movie, and Buzz hasn't been there in a few years), I'd love to meet Dave Scott — on the dream list are Mike Collins, Harrison Schmitt, TK Mattingly but they're VERY unlikely... Of course, I'd even be happy with ASCANs from the new signups too. Thanks to ASF for another fun show. |

Always a great time attending the ASF Show. I thought there was a good variety of “things to do” this year. I enjoyed the more Techy side of the Orion/SLS panel and the Boeing secret CST tour. I thought the Friday morning panel was great for Collectors and Enthusiasts (although, I’m not sure about the Space Collectibles presentation. Seemed more like a second choice! Just kidding, great job Larry!). The Hubble panel gave us a bit more of the Adventure side of things. Something for everyone.I thoroughly enjoyed the reception on the Tiki deck following the Hubble panel. Spent a great deal of time talking with Tom Akers and Bob Cabana, former crewmates, about a mission that we all three participated in (STS-41). OK, I was left on the ground for that one (and all of the others). But if you get those old farm boys talking about their boyhood, stand back and enjoy the show and the laughs. I was given a lesson on the correct technique for milking a cow. Udder balm? Really? Of course half the fun of the weekend is hanging with fellow space geeks again and sharing stories. The old gang: Mel, Larry, Scott, Bob, Bruce, Gerhard. The new acquaintances: Todd and Jay. The ASF seems to be doing very well, 38 scholarships now! And that’s the real reason behind all of this. Congratulations to Tammy, Dan and their Team. Looking forward to the next gathering of eagles, or sparrows, or whatever it is we are.

One more story.Steve Hawley was in the backseat of a T38 with Hank Hartsfield flying to the cape. There was no tail wind and Hawley was monitoring fuel and getting worried about having enough to make it to the cape. Eventually Hank realized the problem and told Hawley of his concern, but then was immediately distracted by something else and started telling a story not even remotely related to fuel… I guess they landed safely. Would love to hear some of the Akers and Cabana stories. |

Current federal employees cannot take part in commercial activities such as signing for money. They could have a signing table gratis, but it would be awkward to have a show with paid and free signers. Avoiding talk of fees, I'd be happy to see more Shuttle astronauts appear. Maybe both the new ASF attendees as well as those who have attended previous shows can spread the word. |

One of the Bob Cabana and Tom Akers stories:We kicked off our conversation by talking about STS-41 since all three of us had been involved in that mission. Bob lamented that it’s the only mission where there aren’t any good photos of the payload (Ulysses) being deployed. With his trademark smile he blamed Tom, saying that it was his job since Bob was too busy maintaining the correct shuttle attitude. Tom fired back that he was too busy throwing deployment switches to take any pictures. And while you might find a few grainy screenshots from the payload bay video cameras, there aren’t any good photographs of Ulysses until it is quite a ways away.
