Live in the U.S. and am unable to attend this event. Is there anyone attending the event who may be providing a service to get items signed for those who cannot attend? Would compensate for your efforts. |

Blimey, base price of £350! I don't feel so bad about paying £250 last time he did the show in 2012! |

Have booked the weekend pass and the lectures for Saturday. Coming down from Scotland with Richard Vassie. We have booked train tickets and hotel — really looking forward to meeting Hoot Gibson and also attending talk with Bruce McCandless as last time he was at Autographica the talk was on the Sunday afternoon and I had to leave before it. I will be pouting in holidays for September. If I can get that off will be at Birmingham and try to go on VIP pass for that one. Why won't Buzz do a talk? |

I'll be intrigued to discover whether there will be ANY astronauts at Autographica 21 in September. It's hard to see who might be encouraged to attend. |

The line-ups got a very healthy look to it now, I really like this approach they are taking with SR-71 pilots at the moment. |

Is anyone aware of whether Buzz Aldrin has a no-photo policy at his signings?I have been informed that I won't be allowed to take photos. When I'm spending £485 (US$812) for an autograph with inscription and date, I would expect to be able to take a photo to remember the moment. I have been told I will have to pay an additional £50 per photo! Does anyone have any comments/suggestions about this. Thank you. |

Autographica sells professional photo shoots as part of the way they afford to bring guests like Buzz Aldrin to the show, and so photographs are restricted to those organized opportunities. |

I appreciate that Autographica need to earn as much money as possible to ensure a star-studied guest list, no problem with that, but I am asking about whether Buzz has a policy should he be at a different event.I have it in writing that I will not be able to take a photo of him signing unless I pay £50 extra per photo and use their photographer... who will not be available during the signing as all photos are done at a different time and in a different room, which makes that policy invalid as it's not an option. I have seen him in the past and he allowed photos. I know I'm not alone in wanting to find an answer to this although I haven't yet found anyone asking on any public forums... is this a delicate subject? |

To my knowledge, it is Autographica's policy, not Aldrin's, but regardless it is a rule for those attending the show. Each venue sets different rules by which the guests abide, regardless of what their own practices may or may not be elsewhere. |

If Autographica insists that you can only have a photograph for £50, then fine. However I agree with Rowland, they should be available to take this photograph at your individual request. |

I took a photo of him signing my item at the Autographica in 2012 and there was no problem.Usually a guest will have a sign up at the table if no photos are allowed. He didn't have one then. His policy may have changed since then of course, like the prices. |

I have only once seen Dr. Aldrin refuse a photograph at his table: he doesn't generally allow people around the back to pose with him, but you have always been allowed to photograph him signing in the past. As far as I recall Autographica has always allowed astronauts to make their own calls about photos: I have certainly seen Bean, Cernan, Scott, Gordon etc posing with customers after signing their items... Unless things have changed, if you have an item signed, you can take a photo of the astronauts doing so. Some of them have been okay about having you stand with them too. |

From what I've seen in the past, I can't remember seeing any instances where a request for a photo of an item being signed has been refused. I think there is generally a recognition that for a lot of people having a photograph of the item being signed is important for any future authentication purposes. There can be a distinction between that sort of photo and one where you pose with the guest and certainly I've never seen Buzz go for those sorts of pictures in the past. I would add though that Showmasters have always been consistent across all their events, not just Autographica, that decisions about what types of photos a guest will allow rests with the guest themselves and Showmasters will then try and see that the guests wishes are respected. As for a 'floating' photographer in the room taking pictures on request, I wonder how practical that would be. Potentially autograph queues could be held up while waiting for the photographer to come over or you could have long periods where the photographer is hanging about not doing much but still needs paying all the same. There would also be a question of how fair it would be to charge the same amount for a photograph of that sort compared to one taken in the seperate photo room which has all the appropriate lighting etc. I think the short answer is with the photo situation, unless you make all the organised photo sessions free there is never going to be a way of keeping everyone happy, I certainly don't envy Showmasters having to try! |

I have never been told that I cannot take a photo at the table of the astronaut signing my items (that includes Buzz as well). It is generally regarded that you are okay to take pictures for authenticity in the future. The organized photographer doing this for a fee is a none starter and I'm sure that suggestion has only come about in these posts by mixed messages.

My assumption is that the rule is that you can't take free photos with the signer so that you pay extra for one. I'm a big fan of having photos of my stuff being signed, and usually of the signer holding the signed item. If the day came where I'm paying for an autograph but couldn't take any pictures of my item being signed, I'd skip the event and wait for one where I could. |

Thank you for everyone's feedback; especially the private messages, some very open and honest, with arguments for and against. Quite a mix but I am still none the wiser.I have it in writing: no photos unless I pay £50 per photo and use the professional.... who is in a different room at a different time and Buzz is not doing the photo shoot on the Sunday which is that day I have all my tickets for. It's very confusing but I guess I will have to wait and see what happens on the day. I'm not complaining, I am very thankful for this kind of event here in England, will continue to support these magnificent events, and have total respect for Buzz but if I'm unable to take a photo of him signing my photo I will certainly be keeping my US$800+ in my pocket! |

Rowland - Buzz will not pose for any photos at his table with anyone. (The £50 fee that is mentioned is for you to pay if you want a 'studio type' photo of you and him standing together. That is an organized event and can be booked separately). You will be able to photograph him signing your item — that is always the case at these events and should that ever change — I too would keep my money in my pocket and say thanks but no thanks. You could always email Dave at Autographica (a lovely and very helpful guy!) Hope that helps. |

Rowland: you are confusing two issues!
- Almost all guests will happily let you photograph them signing your item - it's sort of considered part of the deal! (I did see Dr. Aldrin refuse to pose with an oil painting last time...)
- If you want a posed photo of yourself with a guest, you MUST book a photoshoot beforehand.

Thank you David but Buzz is not attending the photo shoot on the Sunday which is when I have all my tickets for. There is conflicting information about photos at the desk (photos of the signing, NOT posed photos) and even you said yourself "Almost all guests....". For me, no photos = no purchase. I will still support the event, as said previously it's brilliant and we all agree the organisers have done a tremendous job well done.... just support it for all the other guests and lectures, trade stands etc. Again, we'll have to wait and see what happens on the day. It's not a big deal and I certainly won't be getting myself upset over it because I'll just keep the money in my pocket. And Buzz is now attending SpaceFest....

I can't imagine a scenario where you can't take a picture of him signing the item. When I saw him at ASF 2012 he had no issue with me taking pictures of him signing, took his time so that he signed it exactly the way I wanted, and then smiled for a picture with me shaking hands with him across the table. He just won't pose for photos. |

I was also there in 2012 and as he signed my BIG photo he actually held the photo up (and jokingly ducking down behind it) and then came back up with a huge big smile holding my photo in front of him. He even remembered me from a couple of weeks previous at Birmingham (because of an issue with my card). He had actually signed another photo in Birmingham BEFORE my card "cleared" and it was an "uh-oh" moment. My photo was signed but my card was slow to connect with bank. Buzz Aldrin said, "If that card does not go through then that would mean you owe me money." I replied, "I don't EVER want to owe you money Mr. Aldrin, I've seen your left hook you know." That gave him and his team a good old belly laugh and when I turned up couple of weeks later at Kennedy Space Center, I approached his table for a signing he pointed his finger at me and said... "Birmingham." My experiences of Buzz Aldrin are completely wonderful. |

I've been seated with Greg Johnson, will anyone here be sitting alongside me? Just a note to everyone, I will be offering 50% off on the Apollo 12 Flown presentations to all cS members which you can see here. It would look fantastic with Alan Bean's signature! I have also had a few Sieger Stamp Block presentations made with flown Kapton Foil from Apollo 11 in case any of you would like to get one signed by Buzz! You can see them here (limited to 25). I can knock £15 off these, making them £75 for cS members. And lastly, I am offering £50 off the Apollo 11 Kapton Foil presentations here. £100 for cS members! Free shipping on all of them. |

That has to be the toughest thing I've ever had to do. Despite it being a short ride, lucrative, and easy money, Buzz did NOT want to do it.I had to do some talking, cajoling, even threatening! <G> to get him to come for one day. Buzz is 83 now and deservedly winding down. |
