Not so sure this year.Presumably someone is trying to get Leonov and Kubasov if this is to be a full ASTP reunion? |

After having been to all but one Sims/Hankow show, both Spacefests and both ASF shows the only way I will go to this years ASF show is if they get astronauts to attend that I've never met. Right now it's the same ones that have been to pretty much every show in the last five years. With them also doing the Astronaut Hall of Fame event you would think they would be getting a lot more shuttle astronauts to attend the autograph show in November. Don't get me wrong, meeting any astronaut at any time is a thrill but to justify spending the amount of money it takes to go to this show they need to get more astronauts people have never seen at this type of show before. |

I've not be to any of the shows, so at this point I've not met any of the astronauts listed, and I'm looking forward to it. The precious few I have met I wouldn't mind seeing again. But I see your point. Having Leonov/Kubasov there would be awesome. |

This year also marks the 15th anniversary of STS-71, the first U.S.-Russian link up in space since ASTP. It would be nice if the show could recognize both anniversaries, seeing as the U.S. commander of that flight, Hoot Gibson, is already an announced attendee. It would be great to have a crew reunion (or at least as many as possible) with Gibson, Precourt, Harbaugh, Baker, Dunbar and the up and down crew members, Solovyev, Budarin, Thagard, Dezhurov and Strekalov. |

That's a good idea. While ASTP was mostly a mission of diplomacy, STS-71 was the start of a real working relationship in space between the two nations that has blossomed over the past 15 years. In general, it would be nice if some of these shows would begin to place a little more emphasis on shuttle missions and accomplishments. Even though the shuttle doesn't necessarily have the same drawing power as M-G-A does, many of the shuttle program's remarkable accomplishments go uncelebrated, while we regularly celebrate nearly every Apollo anniversary. There is room to celebrate both M-G-A *AND* the Space Shuttle at these shows. Perhaps a Hubble-themed event would be a good start, celebrating the crews that launched and serviced the Hubble. I imagine a lot of people would like to meet Story Musgrave at an autograph show. |

I agree with the above statements. I think there is enough room for M.G.A and shuttle programs at these shows and would just like to add a few of the co-operative flights to Mir, and ISS aboard Soyuz to the wish list of guests as well. |

Story is one of the astronauts I've met, but would be more than happy to see again. I know how folks feel about the repeat appearances, and how that affects someone's decision to attend. But at the same time, I think many of the astronauts are to be commended for their support of ASF. There are a lot of names that come up for every one of the events they sponsor, and not all of them live a convenient distance from KSC, so they have to take time out to travel to and from the event and then for the event itself. |

Having the same astronauts attend these shows makes it even better in my opinion. Yes it's great to get an autograph and shake a hand, maybe talk for a minute or two. But after attending multiple events, you get to know them better, and you might even meet someone who knows an astronaut personally, which might lead to an extended conversation (for example, this happened to me with Alan Bean). I especially like it when I'm talking with an astronaut, and he/she eventually says "oh yeah, you're the guy who...". They do remember you after a while. You also tend to meet other space enthusiasts and get to know them better (Bill, John, Linda, Brenda, Tad, Paul, etc) and trust me, you can always learn something from them. And on a rare occasion, an astronaut passes you by and says "hey Mel, about our conversation last night..." For me it's the learning experience, and not the autograph. |

I understand your point of view. When possible I enjoy hanging out with astronauts just as much as the next person, but I'm an autograph collector first. For me to travel a thousand miles from home and spend a large amount of money doing it there needs to be something new and fresh to do and see. And for me that means astronuats I've never met before. To put it another way, when you go on a family vacation do you go to the same place year after year? I know my family and I don't. We want to go somewhere we've never been, to see something we've never seen. It keeps it new, fresh and interesting. In the context of my autograph collecting hobby nothing gets me more excited than to have the opportunity to meet someone I've never met before. Someone I have the greatest respect and admiration for. The chance to interact with that person, even for a few minutes, and hopefully get an item signed is what has kept me thrilled to be in this hobby for 20 years and I hope many more years to come. |

Well, keep in mind that if you would like for that person to be from the M-G-A era, there are not many years left for you to do that. Shuttle astronauts should be around for a long time, but the M-G-A guys won't be doing the show circuit for that many more years. |

Robert, Strekalov passed away in 2004 so a 'full' reunion wouldn't be possible. |

I agree wholeheartedly, Mel. We had a great time last year - even before the show had started! Often the obtaining of the autographs can be a bit of a chore, but it's in the bar/by the pool/on a tour that you really get to know the astronauts and fellow collectors. 2009's show was awesome in all of these respects. |

I had an issue too, but if you enter the promotional code from the ASF website when you search for dates then you can see the availability and book rooms. Also, what are the chances that STS-134 will be rolling out to or on the pad? The launch window as it stands now is during the following week. |

At this point, there is probably a greater chance of STS-133 (Discovery) still being on the pad than there is STS-134 (Endeavour) standing ready. Many expect STS-134 to slip into February 2011, while STS-133 may face growing delays due to the time needed to prepare its payload. (Watch for further updates under the shuttle - station forum.) |

I made my hotel reservations yesterday. I tried to make them online, but the Radisson website said there were no rooms available for the dates I selected. I called for reservations instead and was able to make them with no problem. I told the reservation operator about the problem on the website and he said he would report it. He did ask if I was going to the hotel for a special event and I did get the autograph show discount.Looking forward to the show!!! |

I made my reservation last week and had no problem. I checked again today because I am going to fly in one day earlier than I planned and needed another room night, and it was going to let me book at the ASF rate. Here is how I did it: - Click on the hotel on the ASF website. There should be a hotel instructions and details on the ASF link. There is a promotional code right under the hotel link.
- Copy the code down and click on the hotel link right above it
- Type in the dates on the hotel web and enter.
- It will likely tell you the hotel is sold out. BUT on the right hand side there is a space for the promotional code. If you type the promotional code in that space and click enter again, it will bring up the availability and you can book from there.

Would enjoy meeting more of the Space Shuttle astronauts and the added plus is that their signing fees are a bit more reasonable! Like the Apollo and Skylab astronaut fees were back in 2007. |

I thought last year was a great improvement. In addition to a number of shuttle astronauts in attendance (some for the first time at an ASF show), the Astronaut Training Experience featured Hank Hartsfield, Tom Jones, Vance Brand, and Bob Springer as "leaders" of the 4 groups that we were assigned to. There was ample opportunity for one on one discussion (and yes it was great stuff). In addition, there was a great discussion in the bar one evening with Hank and Vance. I also had a great discussion with Rick Searfoss at the cocktail party. So hopefully ASF will continue to bring in new shuttle astro's and also get them to give presentations. |

We (Julie & I) would have liked to have made this one, but as it turns out we're getting married on Nov. 6. If the show went longer we could consider honeymooning at it, but so it goes. Hope that there's a 2011 version to attend. |
