The three times I met Dave Scott he has been very polite and came across as a good bloke. He seemed a little hard of hearing to me (or maybe it was just the British accent) so speak up! |

I will second that- or by now, fourth that. I got a call on my cell phone during the reception on Friday night from my credit card company- they were about to cancel my card if I hadn't confirmed that the charges from that day were legitimate. DEFINITELY worth a five-minute phone call in the next two weeks. |

IF THERE IS A PARTICULAR PIECE YOU WANT: please email me at [email protected], and let me know which work(s) you want, and I'll ensure I have it in stock and set aside for you! Does anyone recall if Dave Scott charged a completion fee last year? I cannot remember. There is none listed for him on the ASF web site, but I notice that as the show draws near, more and more completion fees are being added. |

Is there anyone from the DC area going to ASF this year, who would be willing to get a Skylab item signed for me by the 8 Skylab astronauts? It's very small and flat - wouldn't be a problem for you to carry. I will of course make it worth your while.I really wanted to go this year but there were just too many things going on at the same time. Please pm me off list if you can help. Thanks, Jonathan |

I would also greatly appreciate it if someone from the DC area could bring photos to be signed by Scott, Cernan, and Haise. I should say that they are 16x20 prints, so hopefully you are already thinking of bringing a poster tube for your own things. I could give a duplicate from my collection to anyone who can help me out. Steve |

If anyone was wondering about dinner seating, I got a reply stating that seating would be assigned at the dinner check-in. I'm sure that was in the fine print somewhere, but just in case others missed it like I did... |

My correspondence actually says that "seating preference will be granted by ticket order date. Seating arrangements will be disclosed at dinner check-in", which is consistent with past ASF shows. I know it is frustrating to not know in advance, but I trust the people who run the show and am sure they have good reasons for this policy. I suggest preparing questions ahead of time for all 3 of your seating choices. |

At the last Spacefest, the guys from 2001 had to give me this news. As I hurriedly pulled out another card and told them "I'm sorry," Gary Lockwood asked, "Is this your girlfriend?" I said yes, and he replied, "Then you've got nothing to be sorry about." Made her day, let me tell you.Anyway, we're going to be getting married while the ASF show is going on, so if someone can help me out with a couple Shuttle and Skylab signers, I'd appreciate it. |

It appears that we have another cancellation - Frank Culbertson is no longer listed on the show website. Two weeks to go, hopefully that is it! It would be nice if the ASF would announce the cancellations instead of us noticing the disappearing astronauts from their webpage. |

I still hope to find an ASF attendee in the DC area who might be able to bring four large photos to get signed for me. I'd rather just be able to drive the items over and pick them up. However, I would greatly appreciate it if any cS member who would be willing to help me out could e-mail me, so I'll know that if it comes to having to mail the items (in just another few days) that will work out. |

Another departure from the guest list - Mike Mullane (who had always been listed as tentative) is no longer on the ASF Webpage for the show. Could we also see the removal of Durrance and McBride? The reason being that Culbertson and Mullane never had prices and the other two still do not have prices yet on the signings fee page. Just a theory - hoping that no more cancel! Maybe Stafford will change his mind and sign since he just signed @ Autographica (wishful thinking!) |

For the 2008 show, General Stafford also did not sign but did attend the dinner and did do the Apollo photo opp. I heard he ran a few minutes late and those at the front of the line missed out having him in their photo. I was fortunate and was near the back of the line and he was in the my photo. Best way to find out for sure is e-mail or call the ASF. |

I got an e-mail from the ASF showing that they listen to feedback. Some people suggested after the 2008 event that at least one table be kept clear for collectors to organize the items they were having signed, and leave out recently-signed photos so the ink had time to dry. Maybe they had it in 2009; they will definitely have it this year. (I asked because a cS member has kindly offered to get some large prints of mine signed, and I wanted to make sure it was as easy as possible for him!) |

Good advice to email ASF, but regardless I'll find out that evening. I must have been toward the front of the line in 2008 because Tom is not in my photo. Great news on the table Steve; I don't recall it being there last year. And yes the staff work hard to meet our needs in what must be, for them, a very harrowing 3 days. |

Well, I finally got my November schedule sorted out, and I can at least make it for the weekend ASF events. Got my dinner ticket and show tickets for the weekend, along with a KSC annual pass and "Then & Now" tour arranged for Sunday. I'll try to get in early enough to see y'all at the bar on Friday evening! |

Is Colin Burgess still planning to attend the show? I have four of his books (two already signed by Francis) that I would like him to sign but do not want to bring them unless he is coming for sure.

Colin is on travel right now so can't reply personally, but he will indeed be there - Saturday only, I believe. The ASF will even have a signing table in the Debus rotunda for him (and Ed Buckbee) on Saturday, last I heard. I'll be there both days, assisting Dee O'Hara as ever, and I'm happy to countersign anything too. Naturally, we don't charge to sign. (And for those who don't know - with Colin's book "Footprints In The Dust," neither he nor any of the chapter authors are making a penny from the book. All proceeds go to the ASF.) |

As Francis has kindly indicated, my wife and I are currently making our way to Florida, travelling down the east, and I will definitely be at the ASF show - but on the Saturday only. We have to catch a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale Sunday, so unfortunately I can only attend that one day. Hope to catch up with a whole bunch of you during the day. If things go as planned with the centre's bookstore, I should have copies of the three Outward Odyssey books available for purchase, but I'll happily sign anything without charge, and Francis will be nearby to countersign our two books, as per his message. |

I just found out yesterday that Bill Pogue is coming out with a new autobiography. I was sent a copy of the dedication page. Linn Leblanc told him the story of my son that was killed in Iraq on October 25, 2005. On that day in 1954 Bill received his wings and commission. He dedicates it to his family and to my son SGT Christpher Monroe. He is planing to give me an advanced signed copy if it is in print or the computer proof at the event. Talk about an honor see you all there. |

I am flying in mid day Wednesday and will likely make it out to Cocoa Beach around 3pm in time of the launch. Anyone know an ok wateringhole in Cocoa Beach area not fare from the hotel on the water where I can see the shuttle after liftoff? |

Look no further than the beach-bar at the back of the Holiday Inn, Cocoa Beach. As far as I can remember, you have a clear view along the coast to Cape Canaveral and would see the shuttle once it rises high enough. But why not stop off at Titusville on your way to Cocoa Beach and watch from a bar there? Closer to the pad, and you can see the shuttle on the pad. Of course, you may find all roads in the area are gridlocked for several hours either side of the launch. You may have to watch through your car window! |

That's the problem. I don't want to get stuck in traffic and will not likely get into the area until 3PM. I was stuck after STS-124 launch and it was brutal. A friend has said you can see the shuttle from FishLips restaurant near Port Canaveral. I might give that a try. |

TurboFox Photography is proud to present the new Apollo Insignia series! I have a beautiful photo of the Apollo mission logos 7 thru 17 -- and at least one crew member from each of these missions will be attending the AAMS! These matted photos will make a magnificent addition to any collection, and are easy to frame (11x14 mat, standard size!). These will be available for purchase -- while supplies last -- at my vendor table for only $20 each!Below are a few samples; reference here to see others, and for additional pics of actual matted prints. Don't settle for a standard stock photo. Own a work of art! |

Looks like the chances of seeing Discovery launch during the show just improved. Thursday afternoon right now but with a 70% chance of violating weather constraints Friday looks more promising. I hope this does not impact those who have the tours scheduled. |

I have heard that access to KSCVC visitor complex on launch day is restricted. If the shuttle is scheduled for friday, how will that impact the show schedule? I assume the VIP reception and dinner will still go on as scheduled. Being a platinum ticket holder, hopefully we will be allowed access to center to watch the launch if it happens. |

My guess is that ASF has had contingency plans in place since the launch was moved to 11/1, and that once things firm up a bit more we'll know what they are if they become necessary. As it stands I'll be landing an hour before the launch on Thursday so I may see it from the road en route if its a go, but I'm okay with that. Its a lot closer than Massachusetts!

I am here at the Radisson now. I came in a day earlier this year in hopes of doing a tour tomorrow. But would rather head to Jetty Park or somewhere to see the launch if I can. There was an email from Linn LeBlanc advising that if the shuttle is delayed until the weekend they will have a back up plan in place, though no details as to what that would be. Remains to be seen I guess. |

Hmmm... this weekend could get interesting with the shuttle launch possibly postponing into Saturday (looks like winds are not favorable for Friday, although the launch is still scheduled for Friday afternoon).I purchased an annual KSC pass, but I would need to get to the Visitor's Center to pick it up... I'm sure the ASF folks will announce something before too long. I'm driving down on Friday, so looking forward to seeing y'all there. |

Anyone who will be at the show, please stop by my table and shop for some unique artifacts and collectibles. Prices will start at free (yes, there are some Space Shuttle artifact give-aways), and will include interesting items priced at $40 or less. There will be some shuttle space suit parts, and some personal crew items as well. (Clue: How do the astronauts use the bathroom in their space suits?) Don't miss the flown crew items. And I will have a few Apollo and Gemini control handle models. (If I run out you can order one for me to send to you later.)Hope to see you all there. ------------------ John Fongheiser President Historic Space Systems, http://www.space1.com |
