Yes, I sent out the email requesting banquet meal and seating choices. The link wasn't all bad, just mostly. My mistake. Many people have been able to get to the page but many have not.

The main error was that I left out a slash after the http: part. Some browser don't mind (Firefox), others do (Internet Explorer). Nearly 90% of banquet ticket holders have responded already in one way or another.

If you are having trouble reaching the page, please email me, randy@novaspace.com, with a subject "Spacefest Banquet". You can tell me your choices and I will handle the rest, or I will send you a good link so you can make your choices online. Either way, I will send you a good link so you can check or change your choices.

Thanks for your patience. Hope to meet you at Spacefest.

I'm pleased to be one of the speakers at the upcoming Spacefest 2009, and wanted to remind anyone who might be interested that I'll not only be signing DEKE! and WE HAVE CAPTURE along with the various editions of WHO'S WHO IN SPACE, but also the following:

Space novels MISSING MAN, RED MOON and TANGO MIDNIGHT

The Valentin Lebedev book 211 DAYS IN SPACE (I wrote the introduction)

SF novels THE STAR COUNTRY and DRAGON SEASON

And other publications to which I've contributed.

I will have hc copies of DEKE!, STAR COUNTRY and TANGO MIDNIGHT for sale, as well as a few copies of DRAGON SEASON (paperback).

All best,
Michael Cassutt

Steve Cook, the NASA ARES project chief, has to leave early Friday, so we moved his talk up to 9am, opposite Ed Buckbee. Paul Calle's talk is now in the 3PM slot.

I am not new to collectSPACE but I am new to posting. I have enjoyed reading the posts over the years and gained a lot of knowledge. I have a question, I am looking for someone who is attending Spacefest in California and would be willing to obtain a couple of autographs for me. Kim Poor suggested I post the question on this website and ask for assistance. I would be happy to return the favor in the future. Thanks again.

Someone else needing help for Spacefest...

I had planned on sending a book for Dick Gordon's autograph but another thread on cS suggests that it's a bit more difficult than it used to be - I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take the book to Spacefest to get it signed for me? Thanks!

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat this time around, fellows. If anyone might be kind enough to take some shuttle photos for Charles Walker for me I'd be grateful.

Thanks so much,
Rob

If we could figure out a way to take mail-in items, we could make a fortune. As it is many folks could easily pay for their attendance by doing the favor for those who can't come.

Also - we just worked out for the 2nd time as our keynote speaker at the banquet, Jerry Doyle.

You may recall JD as Garibaldi on Babylon 5, who also has his own syndicated radio talk show.

SUPER neat and nice guy. His talk last year was out of this world!

I saw that an Apollo 9 photo op will be available at the VIP reception Friday evening. Do we need to reserve or pay for our spot at the photo op in advance?

Would someone who is attending be willing to pick up an Al Crews signed photo for me?

I had the chance to fly with Al in a Learjet doing space shuttle TAL support (Gambia). I enjoyed chatting with him, but didn't want to ask for an autograph at the time.

Thanks.

Hi, if there is anyone available to help me get Mike Collins, and the Apollo 9 crew autographs on a block of 4 stamps and an envelope, please let me know.

Thank you, Paul.

Paul - First of all, welcome to collectSPACE!

I'm not sure if you are asking for Collins to sign a stamp block or envelope (or were just wanting that from the Apollo 9 crew), but you should be aware that Collins typically has refused to sign philatelic items at his previous signings for Novaspace and that a "no covers" policy has been listed with his Spacefest signing fees. I assume stamp blocks are also out as well...

On the other hand, if you only wanted the Apollo 9 guys to sign the stamp block and cover, I believe they are all happy to sign philatelic material.

Alas, I can't help you further, since I'm not going to Spacefest...

At last November's ASF/KSC event I brought things to be signed for people from four different countries. Hopefully some of that karma will roll back to me, because with just a few days to go I'd like to know if someone who is attending and not getting Michael Collins' autograph could get two things signed for me.

A cS member who lives near me will be attending and will be kind enough to bring the items and a check I'll write to you. (He's already getting two things signed, so I am just trying to avoid the extra $90 for more than two autographs. I know I'm already paying $500, but that extra $90 does make a difference.) Then you'll just please get them signed and give them back to him.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Steve

As some may have noticed, my talk on Sunday is now scheduled at 11:30 a.m., the last talk of the show.

Now, I know that my loyal readers need no other incentive to attend than the chance to hear from your faithful leader editor, but just in case that hasn't convinced you, those attending my talk will be leaving with free space memorabilia!

Given the topic of my talk, "Collecting Constellation", I have worked with a few of NASA's contractors to provide a small stash of collectibles related to the new moon program.

So I hope to see you all there!

For those of us who won't be attending Spacefest, is it possible that you might publish your talk on cS afterwards? I know many of us would appreciate it.

I will be attending the SpaceFest after my arrival on Friday. So bring your "From the Earth to the Moon" stuff and come by to say hello. You can't miss me as I will be assisting as a volunteer to help out.

I will be happy to answer your questions about the Aerospace Legacy Foundation and whats happening in Downey at the plant where Apollos and Shuttle Orbiters were all built. On Sunday - I and some other E2M crew will be wearing our cast and crew shirts in tribute to the Apollo-9 crew reunion.(remember that Dave Scott was the primary tech advisor for the show).

See you then!

About a half-dozen posts ago I asked if anyone not already getting something signed by Collins could get two things signed for me. Well, I've thought of a bit of an incentive to stand in line for me.

Thanks to two mailings about 20 years apart, I have several John Glenn autographs. I won't sell any of them because I'm amazed at how generous he is with his time, but I'd be happy to send one to someone who does me this favor. Anyone interested in a 1962 Mercury cover on which he has written "Best regards", signed it, and added the date?

My two items will be leaving for Spacefest tomorrow with my local friend, so you'd be able to get them from him in plenty of time before Friday.

We just received this notice from Fred Karst at the California Science Center.

"We are here at the California Science Center and they have the exhibits for the ASTP. Command module closed off due to building leaking. For those planning on going to see those exhibits from San Diego, don't it's off limits."

Sorry to hear that.

As the message above could potentially be read two ways, I'd like to add a clarification. Karst means coming FROM San Diego TO Los Angeles (the home of the wonderful California Science Center) to see those exhibits.

The exhibits here IN San Diego (Apollo 9 command module, etc.) are fully open to the public, no leaks, and we are looking forward to Spacefest attendees coming and visiting them here at the San Diego Air & Space Museum.

Just wanted to give a big plug to the San Diego Air and Space Museum. It is just up the road from Spacefest and has a great collection. There is a rare Sea Dart and an A-12 Blackbird right out in front for starters. Then Gumdrop is right there in your face once you walk in the front door.

Plus I was really pleased to see the new Gee Bee replica there on my last visit. That is one cool race plane. It was just written up in a recent edition of Air and Space magazine too. If you have never heard of that plane then please Google it. You will never forget it once you have seen it.

Just to give everyone an update on the weather here. The past week, it has been raining but the forecast on Thurs will be sunny with a high of 71 degrees. Friday and Saturday will be partly cloudy also in the high 60's low 70's. At night, it will be chilly, in the 40's, so bring a sweater. I hope the golf course will be dry enough to play, there has been a lot of run offs in that area.

So are there going to be plans for other cs'ers to meet at the VIP reception?

Welcome to San Diego!
