What looks like to me is an original STS-61E cancelled mission patch has just been listed on eBay in a lot of five AB Emblem Shuttle mission patches. The seller will only ship within the U.S. mainland. The last time this patch came up for auction was on 19th February 2011 at the Lunar Legacies sale, lot No.456, when it fetched $750.00 + commission. |

I spotted that one as well Kevin. Looks like the real deal to me. Now, if only we can get him to open up his auction to overseas buyers as well! |

Maarten, I had sent the seller an eBay message straight away before any bids were placed telling him what he could be selling. I also asked him to post an image of the back of that patch, and requesting he allow International bids on this lot. But I've not had a reply as yet.So far there has been 6 bids from 5 bidders. The highest bidder has bid $79.85 (£49.54). I can now confirm this patch is the real deal because the boys from this forum have now placed their opening bids. Good luck. |

That seems like an incredibly steep price, especially if AB had indeed produced 200 of them as per this thread. |

Last time I remember I saw it on eBay (From the late Randy Wagner's collection, I believe) it went over 1000. I have seen it for sale the past 15 years only 4 times. I bought patches from eBay seller Jaxel42 overseas before, despite his statement that he only ships to US addresses, so it might not be a problem. I would not be surprised if it goes way over 1000 this time. |

Yes, I have Mike, but I've not had a reply yet. (See my second post on this thread above).Bidding now stands at $202.50 (£125.64) with 10 bids from 6 bidders. I have now successfully placed my first bid, lets see if it remains or if it is cancelled. |

If you have trouble, let me know. I have been bidding on it, but it is about to move out of my price range. If he wont ship it overseas, have him send it to me and I will forward it to you.(assuming you win it). If that wont work, tell me your highest bid and I will place it for you and then send them on if you win. |

I'm not much of a patch collector so sorry if this is a dumb question. I have a STS-61E patch in my collection, how can I tell if it's an original version? There seem to be minor variations between the patch listed on ebay and mine.Any input will be appreciated, thanks. |

Thanks for pointing me to the older thread. I own the left hand example of the two souvenir patches shown on Jacques' website. I'm guessing it ain't worth a thousand bucks, oh well, back to playing the lottery. |

I have just received a message from the seller Jaxel42.He has posted single patch images of both back and front of this STS-61E patch. (Yes it is 100% original patch, one of only 50 made at the time). He will accept bids from non U.S. bidders, but he will only accept the bids if the bidder has a U.S. address to send the patches to if they win. I have a member of this forum who will accept this lot if I win, and ship it to me in the U.K. Now at $405.00 (£250.96) with 14 bids from 7 bidders. Now at $500.00 (£309.83) with 18 bids from 8 bidders. Now at $520.01 (£318.79) with 20 bids from 9 bidders. Now at $550.00 (£337.18) with 21 bids from 9 bidders. Now at $610.00 (£373.96) with 22 bids from 10 bidders. |

I have been in communication with the seller Jaxel42 to find out the history behind the patch lots he has, (and will be), listing on eBay. Another possible Very Rare Shuttle patch has been identified and will be listed after this one has ended. He is going to send me an image first so I can varify that it's an original and not the Randy Hunt copy. When I know which it is I will start another thread here on this forum.Anyway the history is that Jaxel42 bought a large box of assorted patches, NASA, Fire, Police, Auto, Beer patches and other 'Junk' patches from a Flea Market some 15 years ago. He was collecting Beer patches at the time. Anyway he removed the Beer patches and the rest where stored away until now. He had no idea that this box of old 'Junk' patches would hold these very rare Shuttle patches. (What else might we find within this box of old patches?). |

The second of the very rare shuttle patches which will be listed by Jaxel42 next week is the STS-13 (STS-41C) 'Black Cat' patch. |

The same seller Jaxel42 has listed another of these STS-61E cancelled mission patches. Lot No.370563610023.This one is not an original AB Emblem one, but it is a two piece full size patch which has all the characteristics of being an AB Emblem patch. He has started this sale at a high starting price, so he thinks it is another original or a variant of. What do the rest of you guys think? A reproduction or another real variant? |

I would say 'replica,' but a good one. The tab doesn't look good (too small) to me. |

I would say: definitely an AB Emblem. Especially because Jaxel42 is the seller - we have seen him sell more rare AB Emblem patches, including samples and crew evaluation versions. It is an interesting piece. I always wondered why the tab with Durrance and Parise did not match the artwork - it looked to me as if someone made a mistake, not realizing a tab like this should have a larger diameter than 4 inch to allign properly. Seeing this version on eBay, I now believe the tab was made "different" on purpose - the lack of metallic silver (also following the artwork, in which the silver showed up as gray) would indicate that the eBay version with the "correct" tab preceeded the one commonly known. So, my opinion: an early evaluation version, which was changed (possibly at the request of the crew) to one with a different looking tab and metallic silver thread. |

Many thanks for your input Erik. I was thinking along the same lines as you are. John the seller has only sold AB Emblem patches so far and some were as you said, 'samples and crew evaluation version' patches.Which leads me to believe this one could well be a rare 'sample' or 'evaluation' patch? |

If only he could find a one-piece STS-51E Baudry-only patch in that magical box... I would love to see a picture of it. I have only seen it as 3 inch a long time ago on eBay. |

That is wishful thinking Erik, but considering what he has found in that 'magical box' and has listed so far, your wish may well be fulfilled? Time will tell. |

That 61E is stunning. It is what that patch should have looked like; not with that weirdly shaped tab. The quality of embroidery does not indicate a fake, but is the sign of a very finely made patch. Good luck, gentlemen. |

Similar to STS-35, were any of the PSs in doubt of making the flight, for medical or other reasons? That might account for the weirdly shaped apron, that the apron would be pulled and remade. The other speculation is that the 50 made with the weird apron were pre-production or evaluation versions, and if made into regular production, would look more like the versions used in the crew pic. |
