I am wondering if space patch collectors would like to have a spreadsheet created to share amongst themselves? I would be willing to do the data entry work and build it.But I was thinking if those of us who collect patches, were known to each other, perhaps we could find ways to trade or share some things that way. From that recent Payload Ops discussion, it was noted that there may not be that many collectors, lets figure it out! Myself, I am collecting space shuttle payload/experiment patches/decals for the most part, went with the ISS up until the end of 2013 (with exception to payload/experiment patches/decals), the OSC launch patches and some NASA organization type. But if that was shared by all, we might be able to learn a bit more about each other and who to ask if one might have a question too! Anyone care to discuss? |

Just to clarify my own comment from that other topic, it wasn't that there weren't many space patch collectors in general, but that there maybe weren't that many with a specific interest in those particular patches. (My supposition was based on the past responses for shuttle- and station-era patches.)In any case, compiling a list of collectors and their interests might help answer that question, as well as facilitate trading as you suggest. |

I have built in a feature at the Space Patch Database (SPDb) that allows you to flag any patch in the DB as in your collection and make that collection available for public viewing, but it needs a little more polish (mainly in the area of classification and categorization). You can also flag particular patches as wanted or for sale from your collection. The downside is that it only allows flagging patches that are in the SPDb system (2300 entries). It requires registering with the site. |

There are lots of space patch collectors, I know at least a dozen in my country. Some only collect flown patches, others Beta cloth patches, others specific patches, etc. |

I collect only ELV launch and mission patches. That seems to be a niche. I have yet to come across somebody with a Delta II or Atlas II collection.I have all but a couple Titan IV, Delta IV and Atlas V patches. |

Yes, I would be interested in creating a space patch collectors database as I'm now trying to collect and compile a list of all the official and unofficial patches associated with the International Space Station. (Hence why I was interested in the ISS-Payload Operations and Increment patches recently listed for sale and discussed on this forum). I personally am looking into the AB Emblem ISS patches with the product number, country of manufacture, and date code embedded labels on. This is proving quite difficult because I can't find anyone else interested in this endeavour. Most collectors just collect one example of each patch irrespective of what is on the embedded label. (I would like to thank Erik for his list of AB Emblem ISS Expedition patches with the product numbers and date codes on worn by the crews and technicians, and flown on the actual missions.) I've also been trying to do the same for the shuttle mission patches too, but that is proving extremely difficult to do on my own. The number of product numbers and date codes issued on those AB Emblem patches from 2009 onwards is daunting. Plus the extra variant of either USA, China, Taiwan or no country of manufacture on those embedded labels. Is there any other shuttle and ISS mission patch collectors out there interested in assisting me in this endeavour? |

I'd be wiling to host the information once you have it aggregated. I might be able to add extra fields to the SPDb patch entry form to store and display those kinds of fields, too. |

Kevin, I started to contribute to SPDb but it depends on having enough time.A project to setup shuttle and ISS patches sounds great and I would try to assist you. We would have to talk on how to do it and where to store it. Would be great to provide general access to that data. SPDb would be a possible place to store it but this has to be verified and agreed. |

One alternative idea is to use a site like SmartSheet.com or Google Docs to create a collaborative spreadsheet (you can import Excel worksheets directly). You can give write access to specific people and leave it read-only for the public. I use these on a daily basis for collaboration with various development teams and they work well. It's way better than passing around a spreadsheet file. |

Thanks everyone for the comments. I have sent an email to Liem to seek some thoughts and to offer my services to him as well. One of the ideas that played into my thinking of this spreadsheet was from being an ASMIC member years go. Remember, you would get the member book every year and you could check the codes to see what people were collecting and search for traders. But at least you knew what others were collecting. Now days it would be a lot quicker to pick and email so questions about an unknown item could be sought out as well a lot quicker these days as well. |

Stephen, Liem and myself have produced a spreadsheet for the ISS Expedition patches and the shuttle mission patches. I will send you the link so you can see them for yourself. If anyone else would like to see the spreadsheets, just send me a message, or post a request here. |
