I'm looking at the patch up close and personal now and I'm still not impressed with it. Too irregular and not as crisp and clean as other patches. Guess that's why they make chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

I would agree that it's not perfect, but I still quite like it. I like it a LOT more than 30 or 32. I really appreciate that the Luc took a risk and tried to do something daring with the shape from the get-go. Space travel is a bold endeavor, and I think the mission patch designs should reflect this more. Luc, keep 'em coming!

The NASA/AB Emblem patch (left) compared to the patch worn in (well, actually Photoshopped into) the Expedition 30 crew portrait. As you can see, it follows the original artwork, with a yellow ISS and some real orange. This version of the embroidered patch was produced by Spacepatches.nl at the request of the crew.

To answer the obvious question: yes, you will be able to get one of these. Details (and a better picture) to follow.

So the crew weren't happy with the AB Emblem version?

That is right. To AB Emblem's defense... Keep in mind that they had to work with the "improved" NASA-art, which arrived to them late and did not look the way it was supposed to in the first place.

Will AB Emblem come out with an updated version or are we stuck with the current AB patch? Love the other one much better. If I order from most vendors right now would I get the AB or the "correct" version?

The "correct" patch has not been distributed anywhere except for the crew. So from any vendor, at this moment, you will get either the AB Emblem version or a souvenir.

Eventually, we plan to make our patch available to collectors, but we will not do so as long as the AB Emblem patch is not widely available. We don't want to get in their way and want people to have a choice.

I do not expect that AB Emblem will update their patch though. They can only do so at the request of their customer (NASA), who does not (seem to) acknowledge the original artwork.

Also, remember that some of the crew's clothing (with patches attached) might already go up on the next Progress. New AB Emblem patches (if any) will simply not be ready in time to fly.

Here is the answer - NASA has now officially released their own version with the "yellow orange" ISS, the names of Padalka and Revin in a font that is way too large, other names that are not on a curved path, the weird bend in the ISS orbit, the red ISS-31 designation that does not have the right font/perspective, the dull colors and the missing objects in ISS and Earth.

The credit is different than usual though: "Photo credit: NASA and its International Partners". Which is somewhat ironic, given the fact that this is solely their creation.
