Well, about four more years and we'll be at the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. I'm hoping that some of the model manufacturers will be putting out some great products and not just reissues.

I've currently got the Dragon 1/72, the FameMaster 4D Vision 1/100, and the Bandai (Otona No Chogokin) 1/144 Apollo 11 Saturn V. The disappointing thing about this is that as the scale gets larger the detail and accuracy get worse.

My dream is for someone to produce a 1/72 size model with the accuracy of the Bandai product. If it's made mostly of plastic the cost shouldn't be that outrageous. I'm also hoping that someday I'll be able to afford to put together a Proach 1/48 rocket garden.

A bit early... although writers are preparing for the "half a century" Apollo 11 anniversary.

The problem is that Apollo has been done to death, recently, even though accuracy has been wanting (cough-Dragon-cough). I don't know what angle (marketing plan) a manufactuer could use that would justify the expense and risk of an all-new tooling.

I'd love to see figures, that's something there's not enough of. Maybe a pair of 1/12 astronauts in the positions they had in Armstrong's famous photo of Aldrin. An affordable lunar rover would be nice, but I don't expect one.

Most likely we'll see a few repops of old Revell/Monogram and Airfix stuff in new boxes. And by then Dragon will probably repop as well.

I am sure the revamped Airfix model will return, as it did on the 40th.

Perhaps Revell will take a page from Airfix and rework their model as well, but it needs far more than a new SLA and CSM.

The Revell kit is currently available, in its old, inaccurate form. By then, I hope Revell will have an SLS available to stand next to a Saturn V.

The old standby of the 1/48th scale Monogram First Lunar Landing will surely get a repop as well.

I hope Dragon does some changes to their kits, but I don't have much hope for that.

New releases for Apollo's 50th and maybe for the "First Man" movie coming soon, you'd think so.

Editor's note: Threads merged.

I really hope some new models will be produced. Not just a re- issue of an old modelkit.

I'm working on a 1/16th scale LM. With DeAgostini coming out with a 1/24th it makes it a little tougher. I heard they scanned Vincent's parts. Also it is 80 issues so I don't know when the last issue will be out, but in total it's about $900. For that I'd buy the Millennium Falcon kit.

I am currently resizing my 3D 1/32 model to 1/48. It should be available before X-mas and hopefully the most accurate 1/48 model of the LM.

A preview of the ascent stage:

Does anyone know whether there will also be a new kit for the Saturn V Rocketdyne F1 engine (1/20 scale or other) for the 50th anniversary? It is such a shame that the Accurate Models resin kit is no longer in production!

Well, things have changed since this was first posted. Revell went bankrupt and only has Revell-Germany left. Maybe they will re-release some kits. The 40th Airfix kits have shot up on eBay to several hundreds of dollars. So I really hope we get those back. Dragon is re-releasing a few of their kits, but not all of them. I hope we see some new stuff as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bandai re-issue their 1/144 Apollo 11 Saturn V.

Does anyone know what Dragon is re-issuing? I have heard their 1/6 astronaut figure but I am curious if the will release the 1/48 LM and some of the finished Apollo CSM models.

Also what was the cost on the Revell 1/96 Saturn V on its last release?

According to CultTVMan Dragon was supposed to release the 1/48 Apollo 11 LM and CSM kits, plus the 1/72 Apollo 11 Lunar Landing and Lunar Approach kits this past summer. No word on reason for the delay or new release estimate.

Happy New Year to all of you. For all space nerds 2019 will mark the 50th anniversary of man's first landing on the Moon. On this occasion I have decided to provide you with the most detailed 1/48 model of the Lunar Module where there is no need for any augmentation kit.

It is available on Shapeways but also on Thingiverse for those having a 3D printer. For the detailed plastic parts I advice to use a resin printer while the white versatile plastic parts can be printed with a more conventional filament printer.

All instructions are on my website. I just received the first printed parts so the pictures on the website are based on my 1/32 model. If you feel 1/48 is too small you still have the possibility to build a 1/32 or 1/24 before July 2019 (see here).

Happy modeliing in 2019. I also enclosed some picture to compare this new kit with the Revell and Monogram one.

In addition Max Grueter designed the two astronauts that go with the model.

Well that is disappointing. Not fond of that kit unless it has been fixed.

I ordered the Estes 1/100 scale Saturn V kit a few weeks ago. It is easily the finest Estes rocket I ever bought since starting the hobby in the late 1990s. Will not fly this one. It will be displayed on shelf with other models. This rocket quickly sold out within the day I purchased it. As of today, however, it is back in stock on Estes website.
