NASA Sets Atlantis, Space Station Crew News Conference

On Saturday, June 16, the 10 astronauts and cosmonauts flying aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis and the International Space Station will hold a news conference at 5:08 p.m. CDT. Media representatives at participating NASA locations will be able to ask questions during the news conference.

collectSPACE will be taking part in this crew conference and we're looking for suggestions as to what to ask the crew. Do you have a question for a member of the ISS or STS-117 crew? Post it here and we'll consider asking it for you. Each news organization is usually limited to ask one question only.

It would be interesting for me, when I see Sunita Williams, why astronauts with long hair, dont bind this hair. I guess, that "open hair" could disturb and might be a little problem, when single hair is loss. Are there any advices?
It might be interesting, after landing, how tha hair feels. Probably the structure of hair in space might be changed?

"Are you a turtle?" - Nah just kidding.

I'd like to ask Suni Williams if she'd prefer another Expedition flight or a shorter shuttle mission for her next one. (Assuming of course she wants, or gets another.)

Not a turtle, of course, but I thought, this might be an interesting question (for Suni Williams and for space-enthusiasts).

this might be a little late as the press conference is only an hour away, but I'd like to ask (this I guess would be for the guys that've flown before) if they think they personally considered the termal blanket less of an issue if it had happened on a previous flight pre-Columbia?

Just finished watching the press conference. Robert asked Sunnie what momentoes she would be taking home with her. She replyed that because of weight limitations, she would have to leave some things and was only planning to take some shirts as souvenirs, one form Ex. 14, 15 and STS-117.

A funny thing happened right after the press conference added. Flight controller (Megan Mcarthur, I believe she said) radioed up that there was room for her to take more shirts in the bag she was packing.

collectSPACE gets things done everywhere!

Cliff, I didn't catch that! I'll have to ask for a tape from JSC on Monday. I am also told that later in the day, as a JSC commentator spoke about the on-going supply transfer between the shuttle and ISS, that he mentioned that among the items being brought aboard Atlantis were "mementos for Suni".

A transcript and audio recording of my short chat on Saturday with Suni Williams and Rick "CJ" Sturckow live from the ISS is now online: Astronauts pack for home, plan for future

Thanks to those who suggested questions, both here and by e-mail. Though I didn't have time to ask them all, I know that answers were given (or came close) to Tim's and Kim's questions. If I can find a transcript or the video online, I'll post a link to this thread. The entire crew conference also appears in the Flight Day 9 Video Highlights, which may re-air on NASA TV.

any time i saw her hair, i was reminded with Laurel and KC...

While i know I am quite late, i would like to know if they feel they are about the reach their limit concerning on-board repairs, do they believe they could tackle problem much bigger? (computer crash, micro-meteorite punctures, unfoldable arraies and so on)

Amir
