This morning, during her final daily planning conference aboard the ISS, Expedition 14/15 flight engineer Suni Williams began her farewell to the station she's called home for six months. Transcript via Bill Harwood (CBS): quote: Houston, Moscow and Huntsville on 2, we're going to start the DPC a little bit early because I'm going to start it, Clay's going to finish it, or Clay, Fyodor and Oleg are going to finish it without me.Exploration isn't necessary or always logical. It's something that comes from inside each and every one of us. I believe we're all born with this curiosity called exploration. Human spaceflight is just one aspect of exploration, but it's the one that I've been intimately familiar with over the past six months. So I feel I can talk to how it affects thousands of people around the world who have worked on and still work on this amazing engineering and science project we call the international space station. These folks, along with their families, have dedicated their lives to ensure the success of the astronauts and cosmonauts... curiosity called exploration for the next generation. I'm saddened to say goodbye, but that means progress is being made and it's time for the international space station to grow a little more. You and the ISS will always be a part of me as you are part of so many who will pave the way for our future.
She then beamed down a recording of James Blunt's Goodbye My Lover followed by her declaring "enough sadness" and dedicating the next song, the Bee Gees' Stayin' Alive, to her replacement, Clay Anderson.Final farewells and hatch closures are scheduled to be aired on NASA TV, beginning at 5:23 p.m. CDT. |

I think she does not want to come home. Who can blame her. I agreethat she is a classy lady and a real star. Waching her seems as if she is almost born to live in space. I have no doubt she will be back again to the ISS, except that time as commander. I regret with modern life and work in not being able to follow her adventure as closely as i would have liked. I am looking forward to watching clay andersons adventure. He was the first person from JSC to give me a response that was not an autopen at a time when no one was replying to me. Thank you in advance Suni for the videos i will watch soon of your flight. Safe trip home |

Suni Williams is an inspiration -- not just because of what she's done in her work aboard the ISS, but because she's helped remind me of the pure joy that comes from flying and from human space exploration. When I see her or hear a transmission from her, seeing or hearing that joy makes me happy and inspires me.Well done, Suni -- and thank you for being that additional bright spot up in the heavens these past few months. Please have a safe voyage home. jodie | |
