I was wondering if the John Young and Bob Crippen signatures on this framed STS-1 print are legitimate. Any expert insight would be appreciated.

You see it, too. The loops in the Y's on Young seem sort of suspect or does he sign like that? I know it's been framed and stored a long time and I think it came from the 80's. Did Young and Crippen autopen in the 80's?

NASA has been using the autopen machine to fulfill autograph requests since 1959-60. So yes, the autopen was in use for the entire time that both STS-1 astronauts were in NASA's hire.

Both are autopens.

Agreed. Definite autopen.

Thanks. I was afraid it was an autopen.

Agree that these are classic autopen signatures. John Young had that same autopen from Apollo on for literally decades.

All times are CT (US)
