Julie Payette was nice about signing in person - interestingly, though, one (unpersonalized) photo she signed with first initial and last name, a second photo she asked to personalize and signed her full name.

Megan McArthur, sent 7/28, received today - although the ISP is, interestingly enough, dated 11/26. (The meter strip on the envelope is dated 12/10.)

Jim Dutton was signing in-person at a Colorado Springs museum this weekend (along with Chilton and Ashby.) And yes, I know Dutton is with the Air Force Academy but NASA still lists him as a management astronaut.

Paul Richards was nice about signing in person. And he used his own Sharpie!

Vittori also signed in-person the same day as well.

Mark Vande Hei, ISP, about a year: sent out July 22, 2012, received today (postmarked June 11.)

Although not a Shuttle-era astronaut, I asked for an autographed photo as Vande Hei attended high school in Metuchen, NJ, my home state.

On the back he writes, "I haven't been back to New Jersey for a long time, too long. I started school there and stayed until my family moved to Minnesota when I was 15."

Yes, I know there are some wiseacres who will say, "Good! Glad you got out of NJ with its high taxes and double-dipping politicians!"

I got a bizarre RTS today. Bizarre, because I used the address on NASA's site: NASA/Johnson Space Center, CB/Astronaut Office, Houston, TX 77058, and it came back "insufficient address." Even though I sent out two or three to the same address at about the same time, and the others have not come back.

I resent the request to the same address, but added '2101 NASA Parkway' to it, as per their homepage. Let's see what happens.

I have gotten quite a few from active astronauts, but does anyone know if you can obtain the photos/autographs from the management astronauts or is that a bit more difficult?

Management astronauts are still astronauts, just that they're not in the queue to fly.

That said, I've received a number of responses from management astronauts: Sellers; Clay Anderson (since retired), Archambault; Casper; Foreman and Love.

Sellers I sent a photo to get signed.

Dutton, Jett, James Kelly and Wilcutt all sent out autopens. Keep in mind I'm working off my Sept. 2012 list, which is when I sent out a majority of requests.

I sent a request for Bob Cabana to the Kennedy Space Center, he is the Director there. It was returned around 3 months later with a Space Shuttle postmark on my SASE.

Usually it is an autopen reply, even if you refer to having met him in person recently.

I sent a request in a couple of weeks ago to Scott Kelly, got an autopen back already. Too bad, I'd rather have to wait 6 months and get a real signature.

Tom Marshburn, inscribed WSS, sent 13 May, recevd 25 September. (And they enclosed my envelope which I sent the request in, rather than cut off the address portion, to make sure it got back to me.)

Chris Cassidy, WSS, sent 7 Sept., received 25 Oct. Looks like the shutdown affected NASA - no cardboard stiffner, and what I presume is in his handwriting is his last name on the envelope and my name and address.

He did mention on my letter that he would like to go back for another ISS rotation.

Question, when writing to active management astronauts, will they send a signed picture, or do you need to send something for them to sign? I know the active astronauts have 8x10s as I have written them, but am unsure of the management ones. Thanks!

Don't worry about the photos. I know for sure that Bob Cabana, if you mail to him Kennedy, will provide photos and return postage. I am not sure about the other management astronauts.

First one of the year!

Kevin Ford, L/ES, ISP, sent out 14 Mar 2013, received today (9 Jan 2014.)

Inscription reads, "Wishing you many excellent adventures!" and as a bonus, the envelope is handwritten by him - the Mail Code is CB/Ford. Mebbe he's cleaning out his old desk?
