I recently sent an email to ESA requesting some astronaut autographs, and they have replied asking for a "prepaid envelope." I'm in Canada, they're in Germany. How does one go about this? |

Brian, I've recently sent an email to the ESA Astronaut Center (from this forum) last year and didn't have to prepay postage. It's interesting that they are requiring shipping/handling charges. I wrote an email this past weekend asking for an "autograph pack" for my foster son. I haven't received any reply back asking for a prepaid envelope. |

Is this something new that ESA has instituted or have they always done this? Does the postage rate relate to "authentic" or non-autopen signatures? If this is the case, I would have gladly paid the extra postage. |

Alexander Gerst signed in technical museum Speyer. After 45 minutes he declared finish and the rest of the waiting people about 150 including me could go. |

About 10 years ago, I had success emailing ESA and requesting autographs of their astronauts. Does anyone know if they still do this? I remember they would send out 4x6 photos of their astronauts signed in silver ink.I would love to try and get a few of the newer international astronaut autographs and I thought this might be a good way to do it, if they still do. |

What I heard is: They now have a 3 autographs per person only policy, and ask you to send a SASE. |

Alexander Gerst: send early January to EAC and received mid-June. Own picture, silver ink, with dedication. I've send an envelope with stamps. |

In a trade, I got another Hans Schlegel autographed ESA card. Not only is it signed in a different spot, but the formation of the letters are slightly different, leading me to believe that the silver-signed Schlegel cards are not autopenned, but are most likely authentically signed. |

Has anyone requested an ESA autographed photo lately via email and received it? Think I tried a couple of years ago, but never received a response or letter in the mail. Thanks. |

Is it possible to send your own photo with return postage for autographs? I see where you can buy international reply coupons via Swiss Post online. Would two of these suffice to return an 8x10 to the US?

It is quite possible to send your own photo/s to the European astronauts. With active astronauts, you do not need to send return postage when writing to EAC. They'll come back to you after a while, sometimes after a considerable while, depending on the astronauts' schedule. When sending photos to retired astronauts, you should use their current postal address and include a self-addressed stamped envelope. In that case, International Reply Coupons are a waste of money. They cost over €3, but only cover standard postage for a small letter up to 20 grams, not for 8"to10" sized photos. In that case, you better provide yourself with appropriate stamps for the country the astronaut lives. The website of this country's postal service will usually indicate the postage amount. If you do not have access to foreign postage, a €5 bill will often also do the trick. Hope this helps, Jürgen |
