I visited the USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum last week and as always I had a wonderful time. The volunteers who keep the doors open are extremely knowledgeable and just wonderful in every way. Also they've added to the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 collection of historic artifacts. They now have a small recreation of an American home circa July 1969 with dial phone and bulky TV.They even have the recovery helicopter that was used in the filming of the movie "Apollo 13" painted as a duplicate of the Apollo 11 recovery helicopter. This caused me some confusion at first as the original was lost off the coast of California in 1975. But the lack of public interest in the ship is worse then ever. I don't think there was even 50 guests. A real shame when you consider all the work that has gone into it. My friend and I wandered around below deck and it was like being on a ghost ship. | |
