I think that the fact somebody was motivated enough to gather the resources and talent to put something together as a monument towards remembering the crew and the program is fantastic. It reflects the symbolism of the Apollo program, and of the men who landed on the moon and returned safely to the earth. Statues and monuments can mean different things to different people, at different times. I hope that the significance of such monuments are appreciated by later generations, who should take the time to reflect on why a certain generation felt the need or desire to erect such monuments. Many of these such icons are either relocated or removed in later years because the narrative is changed, the meaning has been lost, or another message is attached. I hope this design will help to simply tell the story of where it all began, who was involved, and keep the desire to look up towards the sky alive for future generations. |
