Just to clarify, as I've heard from a few readers and members, The Space Store is a separate entity from collectSPACE, with no direct involvement by myself or this site. I was only sharing the news of their pending store opening. The Space Store did, a number of years ago, acquire the company that was our partner in the former buySPACE and Rocket Town stores, but other than an ongoing affiliate relationship, we have parted ways. Still, I wish the best for their new endeavor. |

When I visited Johnson Space Center in October 1994, I recall a store that was west from Johnson Space Center on the same road in a small cluster shopping plaza. It appear they sold everything related with space. One item were ceramic mugs of all (then) space shuttle mission. Was this store I am thinking name Rocket Town? |

You may be recalling The Space Store, or Space Center Souvenirs. The latter is still in business today.Countdown Enterprises' Rocket Town opened in 2004. The Space Store originally opened in Houston in 2002. It was founded as an online shop in 1997. |

Logo description:With Jorge's (cS: KAPTEC) help, I designed a new logo that not only pays tribute to the past (keeping the same font) but celebrates the upcoming move. The one iconic structure that immediately identifies Florida's "Space Coast" is the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). You can just about see it from wherever you are in Brevard County. So I placed it into the design as it appears from the south, where our store is located. It rises above the tree tops. The dawn of a new day welcomes The Space Store as we begin our new collaboration. The Moon replaces the Earth in the legend (because placing the Earth above the VAB wouldn't make sense). You see the moon in the morning sky just before sunrise as it appears here. The move: The Space Store is moving today from Colorado to the beautiful and historic Cocoa Village along the Indian River in Cocoa, FL. I'll be joining Brett Anderson as Operations Manager. I look forward to showcasing my artwork in our retail store. Our store will be at 212 Brevard Avenue just south of SR 520. Once we resume operations collectSPACE members can enjoy a 15 percent discount on your next order. Use discount code "spacecoast". We plan to resume our online operations on Aug. 5, which happens to be Neil Armstrong's birthday. The store should be open a week from today. Stop by and see us! |

I want to let everyone know that due to the extraordinary challenges in securing our warehouse space, we have been as yet unable to fulfill orders as fast as expected. The space that we had expected to move into last Monday was not suitable for occupancy. The landlord made promises to ready the space and did not come through. We have secured a warehouse space. The store is almost ready for product. The trucks have been unloaded and now its time for unpacking and stocking. Thank you all for your patience while we prepare to resume business. |

The warehouse is unpacked. The store is being stocked. We plan to have a soft open this Saturday, Aug. 16.Unfortunately, some people did not get the word of the move and are upset at the delay in shipping orders. We apologize for that. We should have done a better job in spreading the word. We are working 18 hour days to resolve this and get the store open. We know how critical your support is and honestly are working as hard as we can. Thank you for your continued patience. We expect things to run better than ever before very soon. |

My better half and I just returned home this past Saturday after spending a week in Central Florida on our annual summer get-away. This year, we were able to do several activities we had not done on previous visits, such as the Launch Control Center tour at Kennedy Space Center. In addition, we were able to make it down to Cocoa Village and visited the new location of the Space Store. It was a real pleasure meeting Tim Gagnon, (KSCArtist) who is the Operations Manager and Brett Anderson, the owner of the Space Store. We chatted for a while about our common interests and I was able to purchase a really nice looking art print, suitable for framing, of the Apollo missions. I would encourage all cS members, if they are in the area, to drop by their new location. Tim and Brett are really super nice guys, always ready to talk about anything space-related and quite knowledgeable about the subject! They also have some really nice items in the store. Check them out! |

I think that'll happen, as I'll be the CMP for that mission (driving the rental van, that is). We'll be going there for sure! |

Florida Today profiles The Space Store's new Cocoa Village store: Readying for his grand opening on Sept. 12, Brett Anderson filled display shelves with merchandise, placing a meteorite bracelet next to an X-37B space plane model and a lunar rover toy.An inflatable space shuttle and spacewalker hung from the ceiling of what was previously a dress shop at 212 Brevard Ave. A solar system mat and moonwalker beach towel lay on the floor. "It's getting where we want it to be," said Anderson, 53, owner of The Space Store. "It's looking really nice." And here's the details about the store's grand opening: |

I'll be posting more photos, but it was a wonderful night. I had announced that the ribbon cutting was at five. Our guests arrived to cut the ribbon at 4:30 p.m. I'll admit I was nervous for a bit because no one else was there. "What if we have a party and no one comes?" kind of feeling. Then at 5 p.m. it was like someone opened the gate and people started arriving. It turned out beautifully. I gave my grandson Tyler the job of using the large scissors from the Chamber of Commerce. He was flanked by Col. Al Crews and Capt. Winston Scott. They were joined at the ribbon by Brett Anderson, John Zarella and Bob Sieck. Jack King emailed me to say he was ill and could not attend. But my dear friend Hugh Harris came with his wife. These photos are from my friend Jared Haworth. |

I went there a couple of weeks ago and got to meet Brett. I was there with some friends of mine who were all in the area for a 3-day trip to KSC.It took quite a while to find it, with three sets of eyes, we drove right by it and never saw it. We started to wonder if it was still there but pulled over at the bank and went around (it's on a one-way street). Got out and walked around and found it that way. The store is SMALL. I mean really small. And honestly, there was very little in it for the hard-core space fan. Most of the stuff they had was kid related. None of the good shirts on their site were there and they had no mission patches or pins. I bought an Apollo 12 flown metal coin, but that was it. I had plenty of cash on me but it was a little underwhelming after having dealt with the website business in the past. |

Just a heads up to those who might be visiting: even though an earlier post says they are open Sundays between Halloween and New Years, that is not true. I stopped by last Sunday, December 7th, and the store was most certainly closed. It would be great if they could simply post accurate hours on the website; would have saved me the trip. |

I'm sorry the store was closed when you visited. Due to a lack of business at the Cocoa Village location, staff was cut and the store was only open by appointment. As if this writing it is now permanently closed. The Space Store remains open online and in the first quarter of 2015, will return to Colorado. |
