We will be in Florida during the time of the launch, and want to visit the KSC and see the launch. You folks have a lot of experience, so hoping you can help with answers I can't find on the web.A tour of KSC on launch day is not possible, so I'm thinking tour KSC on 12/5, the day before, and then view the launch from Titusville, the next day. Does this make sense? Also thinking about the "NASA Up Close" tour in order to see shuttle on pad, but don't want to spend the money if that part of tour close to shuttle is cancelled close to launch. I've tried calling KSC info, but just get a recording. How can I find out what the "up close" tour includes close to launch. Thanks very much. As my 11 year old son said, "this is a once in a lifetime experience" and we want to make the best of it. |

My family and I were fortunate to have visited KSC for the STS-118 Endeavour launch in August. Because of the last minute change in the launch date (it was moved back a day), we ended up doing the "NASA: Then & Now" tour the day before the launch and the "Up Close" tour the day after the launch. That schedule worked very well for us. First, it fell into somewhat chronological order -- and the "Then & Now" tour really is exceptional if you are interested in the early space program. Second, I think we were able to get right up to the Shuttle launch pads on the "Up Close" tour because the Shuttle was no longer on the pad. I seem to recall others saying that access is limited when the shuttle is on the pad. If you can spare three days, I'd recommend trying to fit both tours in. |

I may have an opportunity to attend the Dec launch. Obviously the causeway is out, but can I count on ample space at the Visitor Center or is a reservation required there also? |

I'm not sure what the current rules are, but in the past, no one under the age of 16 was allowed onto KSC property. This does not include the visitor center, but would impact who was allowed to go on the bus tours. Now, having said all that, it might be that bus tour visitors are exempt from the age rule, but you might want to confirm that before taking your 11 year old. |

Children of all ages are welcome on the KSC bus tours; children ages 3 through 11 qualify for a child admission/tour rate. |

Tickets are required to view the launch from the Visitor's Complex. There are two ticket options, with or without dining with an astronaut. For more information, see the Visitor Complex's tickets website. |

Alex, I just made reservations to see the launch at the visitor center. Email me offline if you'd like to get together for a few minutes, or lunch. I also have a 5:00 PM reservation to dine with an astro. Mel |

All: I'm working a trade show in Orlando when Atlantis is scheduled to launch Dec. 6. Is there a radio station or other media outlet one can monitor to follow the countdown? I have my co-workers all set to shut down our booth and try and see the launch Wednesday afternoon. Thank you. |

Radio coverage of shuttle flights does tend to be pretty good down there on the news channels. Since it is a big event in the region, they do tend to give it the coverage it deserves. News 13 is a 24 hour local news station and they also cover shuttle launches rather heavily as well. Of course if you have wireless web access in the convention center, you could probably also dial up the nasa.gov site for the streaming video and this site for Robert's timely updates. |

Does anyone know what the deal with getting through security on launch day will be like near the entrance of the AHOF off US 1? The usual car placards designate a certain time to arrive but that was for the December '07 attempt. The last two launches I attended had no security check point set up there at all, which means I could have left home at least three hours later and still have made it to KSC in plenty of time for the launches instead of having to wait and wait and wait there for that last bus out to the causeway. |

According to NASA as of today: quote: State Road 3 from the Gate 2 Pass and Identification Building to State Road 405 (NASA Causeway) via Space Commerce Way will be closed on launch day, Feb. 7, beginning at 11 a.m. NASA Causeway between the Kennedy Visitor Complex and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame will also be closed starting at that time. Only badged employees and guests with passes will be permitted access. These roads will reopen approximately two hours after launch.

I am an annual pass holder, I have a car placard for the launch tomorrow, but only one admission ticket. Can I buy another ticket at the KSC for my friend (who also happens to be an Annual Pass holder)? |

Unfortunately, I believe all Causeway tickets are sold out and they do not offer tickets sales the day of the launch. That said, you might call the KSC Visitor Complex in the morning to see if there were any last minute cancellations or other option for your friend. |

Tears of joy in my eyes as STS-122 landed safely (I viewed on my computer at work).I was fortunate, two weeks ago, to view launch from the Saturn V Center. I can't find the proper words to describe the experience. And 122 lands safely after a completed mission. |

Siobhan and I watched the landing from Blackrock Observatory, Cork Ireland with his parents in law and family and friends. It was truly exciting. It only seem the other day that we watched him launch with John (Rochester). Ben thank you too for the photos. Maybe we will see you at the induction ceremony in May. We will be there, flights booked today! Disappointed we wont catch STS-123, its later in the month than we thought. Garry, wish we had seen you on STS-120, hope to see you at some launch before the end of 2008. Once again thanks. Roll on the next mission. |

I was standing by the fence just behind one of the countdown clocks. I am truly a lucky guy to see a launch from that location.Eamonn, I was able to book a $129 round trip flight for the AHOF Induction in May. Life is good ('cept for a bone spur under my left heal). |
