The Southland Times: Liftoff at south's space station

The European Space Agency had been blind in southern skies before the development of the Awarua Tracking Station, the agency's head of international relations said yesterday.
An astronaut, space rocket engineers, politicians, farmers and star-gazers gathered at Awarua yesterday for the opening of the multi million-dollar tracking station.
The station is set to monitor the Ariane 5 launcher at the weekend on its maiden voyage taking supplies to the International Space Station.
