Astronauts Haise and Fullerton walk from the Shuttle Enterprise at Edwards Air Force Base following a successful 5-minute 34-second unpowered mission during the third in the series of Approach and Landing Tests free flights on September 23, 1977. The Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft that launched them is flying overhead.

It's always good to see photos involving the shuttle ALT flights. I watched on TV the first free flight on August 12, 1977. I tuned in to ABC News quite by accident, and watched the entire thing. Too bad I had no VCR.

Thanks for sharing this one!

Great photo... Such a pity that Freddo never got to fly the Shuttle after the ALT program. And Gordo Fullerton. Hope he continues to make progress health-wise!

Both guys were so friendly towards collectors over the years!

For those interested in autographs, here is a cover postmarked at Edwards, CA for that third Enterprise ALT Free Flight on September 23, 1977, and autographed by the crew of Haise and Fullerton. Yes, both guys were very friendly towards collectors and great about autographing for many years.

All times are CT (US)
