NASA X-38 flight test engineer Mike Fossum is all smiles following the first free flight of the first X-38 prototype in March 1998. Two months after this photo was taken Fossum was selected as an astronaut.

Looks a little bit, like the space plane had a damage. Fossum with a pirate flag (?), smoking a cigar, while a technican is looking on the damage. In the background a crane.

But the spaceplane is of course not damaged.

I was at the museum in Ashland today and the X-38 is still there of course. It needs to get repainted in its old test day colors, but it still looks pretty good all things considered.

All times are CT (US)
