I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Ride this evening. She was a true inspiration and role model to so many people, young and old alike, across the country and the world. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts and minds.

Thank you, Dr. Ride, for all of the contributions you have made to society through your gender barrier breaking to your academic prowess. Rest in peace.

I'm stunned to hear this sad news of Sally Ride, she will always be remembered as the first American woman in space and she opened the door for her fellow female colleagues to fly into space. She is one true hero that will go down in the history of women pioneers. We thank you for your service in human manned spaceflight.

R.I.P Sally Ride... gone but not forgotten.

So well said Tim! She was way too young! There is still too much we need to learn.

My wife is doing some work for the American Cancer Society and she found out today that they are broke and as they told her, "The American Cancer Society is hanging by a thread."

Rest in peace, Dr. Ride and thank you for your service.

This is blog post on this.

Very sad indeed. She has inspired many generations of young women and has shown that women can do the impossible and that men aren't the only ones allowed to do great things. RIP Dr. Ride and "Slip the Surly Bonds of Earth and Touch the Face of God"

Saw this very sad news on Twitter this afternoon. It truly blindsided me; I had no idea that Dr. Ride had been so gravely ill.

Watching her and her crewmates return to Earth on STS-7 already seemed like a very long time ago...now it truly feels like a lifetime. Sally Ride's keen sense of responsibility as a pioneer and role model, along with her boundless enthusiasm and dedication to encouraging others to pursue their dreams--no matter how lofty--will be as much a part of her legacy as her place in history. She will always have a singular distinction, but we'll never know how many others pursued and achieved their goals borne on by her example and inspiration.

Godspeed Sally
