Just as collectSPACE did for Beijing 2008 and 2010 Vancouver, this topic will share sightings of international space explorers at the 2012 London Olympics.
Omega has revealed Nicole Kidman and Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin are among the celebrities expected to visit Omega House during the Olympic Games. The exclusive residence will be at the House of St. Barnabas in London's Soho, and will act as a base for members, invited guests and VIPs from 27 July to 12 August. The house plans to offer a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. It will also accommodate a number of VIP events and Omega ambassador visits throughout the Games. |

Former NASA astronaut and congressional candidate Jose Hernandez will carry the Olympic Torch as it makes it way to London through the town of Bletchley in Buckinghamshire, England on July 9. |

The Times, in an article today covering the flood of "celebs" arriving for the games, mentions that Buzz Aldrin will be joined by Thomas Stafford and Gene Cernan for Omega's space-themed party. |

Britain's first ESA astronaut Tim Peake didn't participate in last night's opening ceremonies, although he tweeted his approval of the festivities: Typically British... quite eccentric, quirky humour and of course great music! There was however, a space sighting — of sorts. At the start of the ceremony, four large balloons were launched hoisting the Olympic rings into the stratosphere. By the time the cauldron was lit and the fireworks were set off, a live shot showed the Games' symbols at the 'edge of space." |

While checking my tweets the other day Buzz Aldrin tweeted a photo of himself on a bus on the way into the Olympic Park, in the background were a couple of recognizable faces (well to us anyway).Turns out Buzz, Gene Cernan and Tom Stafford are all over in the UK as OMEGA ambassadors (not sure Tom still acts as an ambassador anymore), promoting the official Olympic timing brand. Editor's note: Threads merged. |
