So I heard the news this morning on a local radio station. Her school announced that she had passed while in Arizona for treatment.

Her news announcement here says she is a Rockford, IL native, but those of us in South Bend always knew she was one of us.

My sincere thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family.

Godspeed and thanks for all you did to further our spaceflight experience.

This news saddened me more than I could easily explain. Perhaps it is because Janice was two years younger than I am. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

She also had an MIT background. I was wondering why I had a photo of her in my 'to be printed' folder on my computer, then realized Voss had intended to speak at the MIT+150 event in April 2011 - in fact, her name was printed in the booklet, indicating a firm commitment to be there (there was a myraid of changes to the lineup.)

I remember at the time the moderators saying Voss couldn't be there because she was sick. Now I know how sick.

I felt the same way. She was so gracious to me in inscribing my photo and answering my question when I wrote to her. Was always one of my favourite astronauts ever since STS-83's early return.

This is such sad sad news and was shocked to hear it. Can only pray that no astronaut or person in the near future for that matter ever has to be affected by cancer ever again. Very sad news indeed.

I'm very sorry to hear that. My thoughts go out to her and her family. What wonderful contributions she made to the world. Rest in Peace.
