Apollo astronaut Fred Haise celebrates his 80th birthday Thursday (Nov. 14, 2013). Selected as an astronaut in 1966, he flew on Apollo 13 in 1970. He was also the commander of the first, third and fifth ALT flights of the Enterprise in 1977. Happy birthday Mr. Haise with many more to come!

Fred was among the top-ranked in his 1966 astronaut class. He was Buzz Aldrin's back-up on Apollo 11 and helped the crew get aboard the Columbia CSM on July 16, 1969.

In recent years Fred has championed the INFINITY Science Center in his home state of Mississippi. He is vice chairman of the board of this educational museum.

Besides being a top pilot, Fred is a wonderful down-to-earth guy who would rather be fishing or playing with his grandkids than making public appearances.

Happy 80th Birthday!

A very Happy 80th Birthday Mr. Haise and wishing you many more. It was a pleasure meeting you at Autographica, Birmingham in May 2010.
