Not a moon crew but the 8 of 9 Apollo Skylab crew were together at the 2010 ASF as well.

Not only that, but it was their 40th anniversary, and they were reunited with their CM, Gumdrop, on display at the San Diego Air & Space Museum.

The only two moon landing crews still able to have a reunion are 11 and 16. Sadly I don't think it will happen.

There is a chance I may actually be able to attend this years show. If anyone with a Platinum ticket finds themselves unable to attend and wishes to transfer ownership of their ticket, please let me know. Thanks!

I just noticed that Walt Cunningham is no longer listed on the show website. That is a bummer, for he and Dot are always a pleasure to visit with. They will be missed this year!

Exactly the point, who is next? This could be your last chance to see a lot of the pre-shuttle astronauts in person, they are moving away from the autograph shows for all kinds of reasons. With the Apollo 17 dinner, all the 40th anniversaries will be done, so that means the next big number, 45, will start with Apollo 11 in 2014, we just lost Neil, none of them are getting any younger, who knows who might still be around in two years.

I won the VIP spot for the Apollo 17 dinner on last week's auction so have a Platinum Plus ticket for sale. Please email me if you are interested.

Short version: Would anyone trade books signed by moonwalkers in return for inscribed Ender's Game books [Orson Scott Card]?

Long version: I'm a science geek and bibliophile who recently decided to get several hardcover books inscribed by their Apollo astronaut authors. I found collectSPACE when researching addresses to send books TTM - I'd never heard of the ASF (nor SpaceFest) and cannot commit to tickets and travel this Fall for a few book signings.

Rather than buy online, I'd much rather get books inscribed in person. Since that won't happen in 2012, I'm hoping someone on this forum would be willing to work out a deal to get a few books inscribed to my son, preferably with a photo of the astronaut doing the signing.

The ASF tickets note 'Astronaut signatures will be at an additional fee' and I realize this will still cost me (seems Alan Bean asks ~$175-200, Buzz Aldrin more...). If someone here is attending could it be done cheaper & with photo & inscription?

I can offer books inscribed + personalized for you by Orson Scott Card (prolific bestselling author, whose book Ender's Game is a 2013 movie with Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, and Asa Butterfield). OSC no longer signs books by mail, and very rarely travels to book signings, but has a hometown signing in October]. I've already had him inscribe a gift edition for Alan Bean et.al. so they would be in hand for you to present during the show.

Let me know if any interest; will work out details (autograph price list is supposed to be released one month in advance?), references available. Thanks — Larry!

Sounds great, but the gold is more in my budget but doubt I can change my plans in November: I may be able to deliver books in person around that time if I work something out.

Congrats on the special ticket/access - the gold ticket is tempting, but I can't easily change my schedule.

I saw the Apollo 17 launch, and I'm hoping now to travel over for the November show. As I don't drive, can anyone recommend a good cab company (or shuttle bus service) to get me from Orlando airport to the Radisson? Thanks.

Remember, the Apollo 17 dinner, along with the autograph show are at KSC, not the hotel. Not sure if the Radisson is providing shuttle service over to KSCVC. Someone else could chime in if they know, but I did not see anything indicating it on the ASF web pages.

I would make contact with the Radisson and get their recommendation. As it is a good long and very expensive cab drive (50 miles via the 528 toll road).

By the way, we just came back from KSC and did the three up close tours (VAB, LCC and LC39-A). Just a couple of issues going on for that weekend you will need to know.

As of Sept. 1 they are now charging $10 for parking, admission is now $50/adult and $38 for children, with annual passes $63 (there is a special right now that has the annual passes at only $55 until the end of the year). Also, on the KSC Visitor Complex site you will see that for Nov. 2 your annual pass is not valid due to a special event (Atlantis roll over).

What that means is you will need to get a ticket for this special event to allow you into the VC that will get you to the signing (I would assume that those of you have bought one of the three packages offered from ASF will have those entrance tickets honored but you should check with ASF). If you look at the ASF site right now the one and two day entrance to the show only passes are showing "out of stock." I am assuming that the folks at ASF are regrouping to figure out what to do.

What we had planned on doing is coming in from Orlando Friday as we will be at the Business Aviation convention that week. We had planned on using our annual passes, pay to go into the signing event, get our items signed and then travel home that day. This will add the expense of having to purchase the event ticket (I hope they are not like launch tickets were and sell out in four minutes) or we will have to stay in the area overnight and go Saturday to the signing event, either way it looks to add $100 to the cost of our attending.

The Radisson has a shuttle service.

As far as KSC, you could ask about shuttle availability. I'll have a rental car for the weekend, and I'm happy to give you a lift if needed. Feel free to email me.

With regard to the Atlantis special event, the KSC website says...
This will be a special-ticketed event. General admission purchased for November 2 will not be valid'.
So surely you'll still get into the Visitor Centre with normal admission tickets/ annual passes, you just won't be able to go to the Atlantis event.

My source, which is very close to the evnt, says no. Here is what was sent to me "Friday as a "black out" day — no annual passes are going to be honored. You have to buy the special ticket to get into the park."

The Nov. 2nd date is a "tentative" date. The rollout could be delayed. We will have to wait and see what happens. If it stays on Nov. 2nd this will cause everyone a headache that want to attend the show. I wonder if they are charging annual passholders a "parking" fee?

Per the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex website:
Annual pass holders receive complimentary parking with proof of an annual pass.

On the Atlantis Transfer. I have been told that this date is confirmed, this is from a friend who has press credentials to KSC, so I'd say barring any issues with Atlantis' prep or having the building completed to the point that they can put her inside, the date is pretty solid at this point.

On the admission, a few weeks ago I contacted Nicole at ASF seeking information, particularly if I should be buying those special tickets for Atlantis, or if I would be able to see the rollover as part of the ASF ticket package, told her I had a Platinum pass and she responded "if it stays on our weekend, yes you will already be in the center and have a prime spot to watch her roll in!" Now take that with a grain of salt please, till we get the official itinerary from ASF, I'd not bet the farm on anything.

Of course the timeline I saw says Atlantis won't hit the VC till 6:00 PM, with the VIP reception at 7:30 PM, it's gonna be tight.

I assume that weather is a factor in the rollover which could result in a "scrub" on 11/2.

Thanks Robert for the clarification on parking and the annual passes allowing free parking as that was what we did last week. However, for the Nov. 2 rollover this is being considered as a "blackout date for the annual passes" and the parking will be have to be paid, according to my source close to ASF.

Also, take anything you have heard from the folks at ASF prior to yesterday with "a grain of salt" as everything changed yesterday on this date and yes the rollover date was also confirmed at that time (and yes anything could change, but that is the hard date at this time). This is why when you go to the ASF website you can no longer buy the daily passes as there are listed "out of stock." They have done this while they try and regroup on what they are going to do based on this info.

Okay, here is the info on the roll over ticket pricing and how to order. At the bottom is the info as it relates to the ASF event.

Addition: The ASF single ticket admission for Saturday Nov. 3 is now back on their site for sale. It also states what the requirements to attend Friday now are.

As I've got the 2 day ASF show admission, and the KSC annual pass now isn't valid for the Friday, it's going to cost another $50 individual day admission to the KSC. Sneaky.

If you only have the day pass you need to get in the online pool on Sept. 18 for a Friday ticket. They expect a sell out so obtaining a ticket to the VC on that day may not be an option. See this thread on the cross over and ticket purchase procedures.

This email went out to all current ASF AAMS ticket package holders:
We are excited that the Space Shuttle Orbiter Atlantis will be publicly transported to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on Friday, November 2 immediately following the Autograph Show. Please be assured that your ASF Astronaut Autograph & Memorabilia Show package will include the necessary Kennedy Space Center Rollover Admission Ticket for Friday, November 2, and admission into the park on Saturday, November 3. No additional action is required on your part. This ticket will equate to Level 4 admittance, which grants you access to the park and includes viewing of the orbiter as it moves into its final home inside the complex. We look forward to seeing you at the Autograph Show, and will send you a final email confirmation in October.
Any questions should be directed to Nicole@AstroanutScholarship.org.

I gather the various packages won't include admission and transport to Exploration Park to view Atlantis. Is anyone else who bought Platinum Plus, Platinum, etc. thinking about purchasing the $90 package to visit Atlantis at Exploration Park? Also, does anyone know how long the trip and visit will last? While I'd love to visit, I'm not sure I'd want to spend too many hours away from the show/astro talks to do so.

Correct, it will only get you into the VC to watch Atlantis roll in. I am pondering buying the package.
