Seeing as how much I'm enjoying Bill Pogue's autobiography, I wonder if there's any chance of him being at Spacefest?

Have you any update on the proposed plans to arrange a mail in signing for Spacefest for the people that are unable to attend?

Yes, it looks like Stafford will be here... We're still waiting to hear from Lovell.

There's also Steve Gruber who will take your stuff to the show to get signed, for a fee. He can be emailed here.

Thanks to Kim for the recommendation to the board for my services.

I live in Arizona and will be attending the event. I helped out dozens of collectors during the first Spacefest in Mesa a few years back -- every person was satisfied with the results.

I have had a few people contact me already regarding getting items signed for them. I will try to help as many people as possible. I wont start receiving items from people until at least May 1st. I don't have the storage space to hold orders for several months.

If you have any questions, please email me directly.

Kim, great news about a possible mail in for Stafford and Lovell. I hope it will take the usual format with a photo COA.

  • 16 discounted rooms remain in our reserved block at the hotel ($119 vs $225).

  • Leonard David, Jani Radebaugh, George Whitesides and others added to Spacefest speakers.

  • Tom Stafford, Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Al Worden added to astronauts for Spacefest.

Kim, a special thanks again to you and the Novaspace Staff for all your efforts in putting together this great event.

As many of us are socking away our nickles and dimes to do our part in supporting Arizona's Spacefest stimulus package (ha-ha), I was wondering if you may have any preliminary pricelists for the confirmed astronauts attending the event?

Thank you again for everything!

Nothing yet, but check ASF's prices. They won't be too different. Anyone in particular?

Thank you very much for the link. I think that is will get me pretty close.

For now, I am interested in prices for Lovell and Haise. I have an Apollo 13 beta cloth I have been trying to get signed for many, many years. Based on the ASF listings, I'll plan on about $350 for both (with a short inscription for each).

Sound reasonable?

Has anyone travelling from Europe sorted out their flights?

Unless you want to spend hours awaiting connecting flights to save $200, it seems best to fly direct to Phoenix and pick up a car. London to Phoenix direct is 10 hours against London to Tucson at 13 hours+ with at least one connection.

It is 120 miles from Phoenix to Tucson, about a 2 hour drive through the desert. Parts of the drive are scenic, but in June it will probably be quite hot.

There are not very many direct flights to Tucson itself, so the best strategy is to fly to an airline hub such as Dallas-Ft. Worth and then transfer to a flight to Tucson. I would not delay making reservations. For example, American Airlines' direct flights from Tucson to Chicago are already sold out for Sunday June 5.

Have you looked at going through Denver? Southwest has direct non-stop flights from Denver to Tucson. BA and UA have direct non-stops between London and Denver.

If you plan on renting a car to get around Tucson, then Paul's suggestion is probably the way to go...fly to Phoenix, rent a car, and drive to Tucson. That's what I did the couple of times I visited Tucson in the past. It's not a bad drive at all...all freeway between the airport and Tucson.

Flying to Phoenix will open up a lot more flight options (and rental car options), probably saving you more money (and time) in the long haul. You could easily spend more time waiting for a connecting flight in another city.

The drive might be a hot one, but that's what air conditioning is for!

I guess it depends whether you want a rental car in Tucson. My visit will be brief-- just attending the show and not doing much sightseeing since I have been to Tucson many times before. There is a shuttle from the airport to hotels.

I do agree with Mark that if you plan to rent a car anyway that a flight to Phoenix makes sense, if you don't mind the two-hour ride through the desert each way.

All rental cars have refrigeration (A/C) here. It may be hot, but not as bad as the 115 in Phoenix during the first Spacefest. the Brits loved the heat.

Airlines are raising fares now, so it may be cheaper to fly to PHX and get a car. It's about 1 1/2-2 hrs to Tucson.

I'd suggest making a vacation of it. There's lots to see here, and the hotel is pretty cheap for the level of luxury.

Saturday evening, a half hour before the banquet begins, we will take up to 30 individuals to sit with the astronauts attending, and have an 8x12 photo taken. Cost is $195. You will receive the photo about two to three weeks later, along with a CD containing the photo, and others taken at the event. Go to the REGISTRATION page to register. Maximum of two (2) people per photo.

Last time, in San Diego, we took an hour, which made some astronauts uncomfortable, so we're only doing a half-hour this time, and to save time orders MUST BE PREPAID.

15 astro-pic tickets left. Remember these must be prepaid. They won't be sold at the event (as if there will be any remaining by then.)

Only 30 will be sold. Half remain.

I have been getting quite a few requests for assistance at Spacefest. I have answered every message that has been sent.

I will not start accepting any items, money, etc. for anything until at least May 1st.

Also, I have been more than fair with trying to fulfill some "challenging requests" (to put it mildly), but from here forward I am going to have to limit the inscriptions to two at the most.

Please email me directly if you need help or have any questions.

I finally booked my room for the week! Now to find the cheapest airfare! They all seem to be around $400 from Detroit to Phoenix. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. I am going to take a side trip to Tombstone on Wed. June 1st if anyone wants to join me. Then the rest of the week in Tuscon! I wish it was June and I was in Tuscon for I am sick of the snow here in Michigan!

Yes, Brand cancelled. Niece's graduation. Ed Mitchell and Dave Scott Saturday and Sunday only. A couple of speakers cancelled, also: Shostak and Logsdon, but we added several more. We have about 40 speakers now.

Very disappointed to hear both Brand and Lovell will not be attending. I had planned to get autographs from both. I guess this is the nature of the business.
