The Smithsonian has now sold out of their signed copies. They are planning a second (limited) signing with Bean in November. In the interim, unsigned copies will be for sale through their store.

I was very pleased to receive today autographed copies of Alan Bean's 2 new books from Novaspace which I had ordered.

The package was bullet-proof, as is usually the case with Novaspace. Besides two layers of cardboard, the books were packed in bubble-wrap, and each shrink-wrapped in plastic.

Each book was signed with a gold paint pen by Alan Bean with his distinctive signature. An paper interleaf was on top of each signature to prevent the signature bleeding to the opposite page. This appeared to be necessary because there was a fair amount of gold ink on the interleaf. The gold ink makes statement, to be sure.

The books are impressive collections of Bean's visual impressions of Apollo.

Thanks to Kim, Sally, Rob and the rest of the Novaspace crew for providing these books at a reasonable price ($75 for the pair, including shipping) to those of us who could not make the signing. And a special thanks to Al Bean for signing his new books for free.

I just got my two Bean books yesterday. As mentioned, packaging was 1st class and it would take a huge UPS gorilla to screw up that package!

Very happy with the books and signatures.

Thanks to those at Novaspace for this!

I received word from the Smithsonian that their second signing occurred as had been scheduled, a "couple of hundred" books were signed, to begin shipping on November 28. Pre-orders are being accepted now.

I was in the NASM gift shop on the mall on the 18th and they had the Alan Bean-signed "Painting Apollo" for sale. The nice lady at the counter proudly showed me the inserted slip of paper to prevent the double signature issue from the summer. She also said they would swap out the double-sig version while they had the new ones in stock if we brought it in. I didn't ask about mailing it in, though.

Astronaut Central is considering selling our "Painting Apollo" slipsheets through eBay.

Now all we have to do is convince folks that "neaB nalA" was the 4th moonwalker.

I'm new to the forums, so this may already have been posted, but I just got back from the Udvar-Hazy center at Dulles and they had quite a few autographed copies of Bean's "Painting Apollo" at cover price. They may have them at the Air and Space Museum as well.
