I agree, 25 quid for a photo with Jim Lovell was a fair price in my opinion, I don't care where it was printed, just a shame they didn't throw in some digital editing with the price as I forgot to hold my belly in during the shot !Adam |

OK I misunderstood, I thought it was for unsigned photos, not photos taken by them.Rex Sire, you are correct. More Europeans. Wish we could afford to bring some over. |

It would probably take until next April to work out all the details. But on a quick count in my 'Who's Who in Space' (second edition) which has been signed by them all there have been 42 different astronauts and cosmonauts at the 12 shows of which 14 have appeared at two or more. The first show was in 2000 with four astronauts. There have been a total of 22 astronauts and 20 cosmonauts. Best wishes Rob Wood |

I think we have as follows (but I think I am missing one show or have combined two): - 2000: Bean, Cunningham, Mitchell and Gordon
- 2001: Mitchell, Gordon, Gibson, Carr, Searfoss, Volynov, Solovyov A, Leonov
- 2002: Carr, Cunningham, Nikolayev, Shatalov, Musabayev and Polyakov
- 2003: Gibson, Weitz, Worden, Usachev, Gorbatko
- 2003: Tyurin, Lonchakov Americans?
- 2004: Bykovsky, Tereshkova, Americans
- 2005: Kubasov, Dzhanibekov, Romanenko, Leonov and Americans?
- 2006: Leonov and Onyfriyenko, Americans?
- 2007: Artsebarsky and Sharipov
- 2008: Leonov, McDivitt
- 2008: Lovell, Scott, Brand and Carr
I am aware I am missing two visits by Carpenter, Lovell and Haise and Lousma plus Al Worden at least two visits. It is an impressive list. Can anyone fill gaps or abstract? I have files but the gas board are fitting a new system so I cannot find it under boxes. Have fun. Rex |

I cannot resist a challenge and hope to have a full list shortly but a couple of notes to start with.Leonov was not at the 2005 show he postponed his visit to the following one. There were two shows in 2007 (I think?). A work in progress. Best wishes Rob Wood |

Rex, your summary does show a trend which I hope will be reversed in the near future. After a wonderful involvement of cosmonauts over the years, the numbers drop to one in 2008 (first show) to zero in 2008 (second show). I recognise there were good intentions for Birmingham, only to be thwarted by visa problems. I was surprised to see a total absence of the Russians in this last show, particularly when the lower fees they charge would have offset those charged by Lovell and Scott. If the whispers are correct and Aldrin comes to Autographica 13, that has to be a good time to field a few cosmonauts to offset the crazy prices which Buzz seems intent on charging. Andy |

At the 2004 show the US contingent comprised Worden, Carpenter, Duke and Mitchell. Gloom pervaded because we'd just heard of the passing of Gordon Cooper. Tereshkova and Bykovsky were also there as mentioned earlier by Rex.Colin |

From what I can remember, I have added US astronauts (in brackets) from 2004 onwards, which is when I started attending the shows - 2004: Bykovsky, Tereshkova, Americans (Duke, Worden, Mitchell, Carpenter)
- 2005: Kubasov, Dzhanibekov, Romanenko and Americans? (Duke, Gordon, Lousma, Aldrin)
- 2006: Leonov and Onyfriyenko, Americans? (Worden, Schweickart, Duke, Binnie, Carpenter)
- 2007: (Lovell, Haise, Liebergot, McCandless, Worden?)
- 2007: Artsebarsky and Sharipov (Bean, Cernan, Aldrin, Worden, Carpenter)
- 2008: Leonov, McDivitt (Scott)
- 2008: Lovell, Scott, Brand and Carr
Please correct me if I have any mistakes. Thanks.Mike Constantine http://moonpans.com |

I disagree with 2 of the entries in Paul's and Rob's lists. Walt Cunningham was there in 2000, and I met him once more, but I was not at the show which had Nikoleyev, Shatalov and Polyakov, so I suggest he was 2001 or 2003.Unless my memory is playing tricks, Rick Searfoss has never been to Autographica. He was advertised one year, but did not turn up. |

I remember Searfoss as he gave me his flight patches signed on the back and a great comic picture of the crew of STS-90 flying in sunglasses and a red crew shirt. He did cancel a second time.He really is the only Shuttle astronaut to come to Autographica. Every other American fly on Apollo, Gemini, Mercury and ASTP first. Amazing really. It is some list. Thank you all for the collective brain power. I forgot about the other Americans, e.g. Aldrin and Duke. I must be slipping. I hope to have a conversation about cosmonauts soon with Dave and Jason. I recall in 2001 Searfoss not making it until the Sunday, which might be why a lot of people don't remember him being there. We were booked for the dinner and Searfoss was meant to be at our table. However the good news was we got Ed Gibson instead. Steve |

I know I met Walt Cunningham in 2000, then I met him again at Autographica and was flattered that he remembered me, but it's possible it was the second day in 2000. Whether it was 2000 or later, I'm pretty sure Tom Baker and Walter Koenig were there at the same time. Anyone?Rex, You seem to have forgotten one of the best astronaut guests to grace Autographica: Bruce McCandless never flew in space before his shuttle flights. |

OK, my brain has failed but my excuse is that I assume all pre 1978 groups flew on other missions. My friend Don Lind is another who did that as well. I should just allow my younger colleagues a free rein.Jill, who you all know, added to the thread by saying: Rick Searfoss was definitely there as you say. It was on a Sunday in Northampton. I have his lecture with Dave Shayler on video. In fact, not having had more than a couple of hours sleep on the Saturday night at home because I had to come back and then driven back to Northampton very early Sunday morning and because I hadn't had much sleep for several days before that I fell asleep holding the camcorder during his lecture. I have stills pics of him so can put him alongside Carr and Gibson in the room. Also, having just had a thought and checked some of my camcorder tapes. The Searfoss/Shyaler lecture took place 20th may 2001. Definitely puts him into 2001 show. It is true that he was expected to be at another show but failed to turn up. I can remember very well as we were supposed to be at his table for the Saturday dinner. The lovely surprise was that I ended up sitting next to Scott Carpenter for dinner and had a wonderful evening except for my meal. Another story I don't suppose you want the details for. That was the 2004 show with Larry Hagman and possibly the incident between whatever her name was and Al Worden. I was there in an Italian Restaurant with a group with AW and the famous Al Hallonquist when confronted by a Birds star. It was a great Autograhica moment. I also had fish and chips with Gordon and Lousma with the Shayler clan. Another unique moment. I could tell you so many Soviet stories while attending these shows. I have a great picture with a couple of Russian cosmonauts with Star Treks first Russian crew member. Leonov with a Sharpes rifle. Who can forget the great cosmonaut photo with the Ukraine model who understood a remark made about a pair of items from her anatomy. A great moment of Autographica history. Another memory was the dinner arranged for 24 guests with Tereshkova and Bykovsky. I hosted it and it was a unique moment to enable some people to get very close to one of the great missions of space history. Regards Rex |

Last thought from me about Auto 12:Once again the whole weekend went by with very view cS-ers coming up to say hello! I spent a long time chatting with the likes of Dave Worrell, Bill Aitchison, Paul Williams, Andy Sprigg and 'Freeze' Scheel, but, not being able to leave my stand (for obvious reasons!) failed to meet many of the other cS attendees during the day. Tell you what would help: if people didn't hide behind 'noms de plume' on here! Then everyone would know who everyone else was! |

First I think you slipped with the "famous" quote and placed it on the wrong "Al" my dear friend. Yes that was rather a fun evening. She was not happy after being ignored at the banquet and unhappy AW had the most questions and showed it with her 2 person entourage. But it was all in fun, and later she and AW had a grand conversation. That was the night Yury Usachev and I became close friends even though we hung out a lot during the show, and for that I am forever grateful. Add to the mix of sharing it all with you, the Shaylers and I cannot recall who all else, literally in the space of a small loo, it was an unforgettable night. Learning the Russian national anthem and teaching Yury "Doo Wah Ditty" (after a small amount of vino of course) was a site to behold. John Masters recalls a dinner the following year I believe it was, attended by he, myself, my daughter Jaclyn, AW, Charlie Duke, Scott Carpenter and Ed Mitchell. Something about teeth John? Another memory I had was the first day riding the elevator with Sir Richard Todd. As he was so short I didn't realize who he was until I was informed at breakfast. Not only a tremendous actor but a true honest to goodness genuine war hero to boot. And not the least, a true gentleman. And in the bar the first year with some of the usual suspects, and one of the guests ranting about the French. Right Fred? LOL I can go one with lots of grand memories. |

Hi All, Mick Fletcher here.Firstly, can I introduce myself. Many will know me as the Autograph Dealer that had the Space Signed Items stolen from the recent Autographica Show. Can I say many thanks to the people who were at the show over the weekend and offered their help and support. I was not aware that I had so many new friends. Thank you all. Just a brief update, the suspect in this case will remain nameless at this time so as any future Court appearance will not be prejudiced. He deserves a fair hearing! I understand a Not Guilty plea was entered at Court and a trial is set for the 26th Jan 2009. Keep Smiling! Mick |

Its sad to say that the judicial system does not protect the good people in this world. The Legal Aid system assists the Legal Profession and does nothing to ensure that criminals are brought to justice. Being drunk is not a valid legal defence, otherwise someone could take a few drinks and, quite literally, get away with murder. |

Mick, it sounds like your pieces were recovered, for which I am very glad.I promise that I've been paying attention to the positive things reading about this Autographica, but would you mind posting a paragraph about what happened, minus the suspect's (defendant's?) name? What was taken, and how? When did you realize something was wrong? How were they recovered in those bushes? And so on. Thanks, Steve |

If it is correct that a person has been charged in connection with the theft, there is no real reason why that fact cannot be reported. I assume it has already appeared in small print in a local newspaper. If it is still considered inappropriate to name the person on this site, perhaps the Autographica organizers could at least confirm that they know who it is, and that they will monitor the outcome of any trial. |
