Offered via RR Auction to benefit the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, a personal tour of the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center with astronaut Thomas D. Jones. Take a trip back in time as you explore the National Air & Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center with Jones as your guide. You’ll be surrounded by space history while in the company of a man who can offer a unique perspective and insight into the world of aerospace and flight. The Udvar-Hazy Center, located in Chantilly, Virginia, is the home of thousands of aviation and space artifacts. The Center houses 152 large space artifacts, including the Gemini VII capsule, the Mobile Quarantine Unit used upon the return of the Apollo 11 crew, a 69-foot floor-to-ceiling Redstone rocket, and much more. The crown jewel in the collection at the Udvar-Hazy Center is the decommissioned Space Shuttle orbiter Discovery. Bids are being accepted now through June 14. Auction is good for a three-hour tour with a group of six (winning bidder is to provide their own transportation). |

There is no public access to the inside of Discovery. As the vehicle of record, it is being preserved/conserved as the Smithsonian treats most of its artifacts.(If you want to see inside a space shuttle, you can tour inside the Full Fuselage Trainer at The Museum of Flight in Seattle, view inside the Crew Compartment Trainer at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force or walk through the replica orbiter at Space Center Houston.) |

You can also take a virtual walk through Endeavour (flight deck, mid-deck and payload bay) from the 360 degree photos I took while it was powered up for the last time. There is kiosk with the view at the California Science Center. Here is the prototype build. You can navigate to other areas by clicking on the orange arrows. | |
