Very interesting, thanks! And it sounds like they were all from the CSM, not the LM.

I asked some other collectors, and so far, nobody can recall Eagle hardware besides this data clip. So I'm getting more curious...

For example, Bill wrote me:

I can't recall seeing any other Eagle flown hardware up for auction. Paper products only. Aldrin did sell a flown slide rule at Heritage in 2007 but it looks like it was only flown in the CM. Even so, this sold for 77K.

Not too much of hardly anything, that I can recall, from LM-5/Eagle, however, there are a few artifacts in private collections that came from LM-6/Intrepid. Has anyone thought of putting together a list of those retrieved or brought-back parts/equipment/etc. of Apollo lunar module "on the moon" missions?

I believe I recall the Apollo 11 LM water gun being auctioned some years ago, from Aldrin's collection. I wonder how many other LM items he might have stashed away.

I suggest continuing and expanding upon this discussion in the thread: Apollo 11 artifacts in private collections

Apollo 11 LM-flown items are pretty rare since Armstrong likely gave all his items to the Smithsonian.

The LM-flown pieces of equipment I can come up with are:

  • Aldrin's LM-flown PPK sold at Superior in Feb 1995
  • Aldrin's likely LM-flown sunglasses sold at Superior in 1995
  • Aldrin's LM flown scissors sold at Heritage in Fall 2007
  • Aldrin's LM flown spoon Superior 1994/98
  • Aldrin's possibly LM-flown toothbrush Swann 2004

UPDATE: Note that I'm excluding flown documents, and also items carried as souvenirs here.

I will continue the thread on that Apollo 11 page. Thanks. But from here (and there), I have not yet heard of any other item of Apollo 11's Eagle that has been brought back. I have a particular fascination with Lunar Module hardware, especially if flown to the moon. Documents, personal tools and food, PPK items and souvenirs are not part of the spacecraft... So I still wonder, what else from Eagle's ascent stage still exists today?
