7-Eleven is delivering a Slurpee to 'space' and you could win the cup

The countdown is now on for an unprecedented commercial spaceflight and you can help decide one of the key factors — or rather, flavors — of the launch.

7-Eleven, the largest and oldest chain of convenience stores, is sending its iconic Slurpee drink "on a private spaceflight" in celebration of its 94th year in business. The frozen beverage is set to leave Earth this August on a balloon-lofted flight into the stratosphere, departing from a 7-Eleven store in Michigan, the "Slurpee capital of the U.S." (a.k.a. the state that consumes the most Slurpee drink

If I am reading this right, any promotional cups that are to be made available are given solely through the contest, not at any stores?

Correct, according to 7-Eleven the only cups that will be available are those won through the contest.

7-Eleven launches Coca-Cola Slurpee on stratospheric 'space' flight

As the debate continues as to where Earth ends and outer space begins, one thing is now for certain: a 7-Eleven Slurpee has come closer to leaving the planet than any convenience store-dispensed drink has done before.

The high-flying frozen concoction took the skies on Tuesday (Aug. 10) for what 7-Eleven described as a "space delivery" for its 94th birthday. Poured into a special commemorative cup created just for the occasion, the Slurpee — and its camera-equipped platform — was "launched" under a helium-filled weather balloon from a 7-Eleven store in Michigan, the "Slurpee capital of the United States" (Michigan is the state where the most Slurpee drinks are consumed).

All times are CT (US)
