Well, another Geeknik has come and gone. Although the first one in about eight or nine years, the guess is that this was Geeknik 8. Here's some images:

Jeff Priest browses.

Gilbert Huey, Jimmy Brown, Aaron Fausz

Joel puts the hard sell on Gary Milgrom.

"No, wait, you don't get it. This is a rare parachute cutter!"

Thanks for sharing that Russ. I'm really gutted I wasn't able to make it having attended the 1st one at your wonderful house.

Could you tell us what that substantial Mercury Redstone connector Joel has in a photo? And on one wall towards the top, what is that white lamp-shade like thing above a photo that might be the Mercury 7?

I'll let Joel fill you in on the MR umbilical head. It's a fantastic piece!!

The light shade on the wall is from the LC-19 white room. See more details about it here.

There were some truly awesome items to be seen at Geeknik. Come join us next time.

What a great time! Thanks Russ, for organizing the event. Thanks Tim, for the patches. Thanks Jimmy, for the poster. Sorry Joel, for forgetting the one thing you and I had discussed for days.

It was great to see everyone.

Echoing all of the other comments, I had a great time at Russ's.

The big umbilical connector is one of my favorite artifacts. It's a 60-pin data plug that was affixed to one of the Redstone's fins on MR-1, otherwise known as the 4" flight. It was the first sub-orbital attempt for the Mercury-Redstone and it didn't quite workout out as planned. I've got a pretty nice presentation put together documenting the event. If anyone is interested I'll be happy to email you the PDF file.

Thanks for posting the photos Russ, by the way how many pounds does the camera add?

We certainly missed some of the other grizzled veterans including Robert and Al. Hopefully next time...

Ah, I wish I hadn't been so out of the loop lately, I would've loved to have taken a day trip down to Atlanta to hang with a bunch of cS'ers! Oh well, maybe next time. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun.

All times are CT (US)
