General Motors release
Robonaut 2 to Appear on Fox’s Super Bowl XLV Pregame

Robonaut 2, the muscular humanoid robot created by General Motors and NASA, will make a guest appearance with Fox Sports analyst Howie Long during the Fox Network pre-game show before Super Bowl XLV on Sunday.

Robonaut 2, or R2 as he is better known, was developed to assist the astronauts on the International Space Station and to help GM develop safer cars and plants. R2’s twin is packed aboard the space shuttle Discovery awaiting a launch from Kennedy Space Center currently scheduled for Feb. 24.

R2 took a break from his duties at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, where he is learning new skills that eventually will be uploaded to his brother on the space station.

R2 and Howie taped a meeting Jan. 31 at Classic Chevrolet, the largest Chevy dealership in the United States, and will share their predictions about which player will win the Chevrolet Super Bowl MVP award and win a new 2012 Camaro convertible. The Fox Pregame Show kicks off at 2 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 6.

General Motors engineer Adam Sanders with Robonaut 2 following his taping for a segment of of the Fox Sports Super Bowl XLV pre-game show. R2 met with Fox Sports analyst Howie Long at Classic Chevrolet in Dallas this week where the two made their picks for which player is likely to win the Chevrolet Super Bowl MVP Award, a 2012 Camaro Convertible.

I note of course the substitution of the Chevy bowtie for the GM logo -- does this mean he's a Chevy man? One can only hope for some commercials of him driving a new Camero, etc.
