I was looking forward to watching Christiano Ronaldo whinge like a baby..... and I was not disappointed. The Portugese took cheating/play-acting/diving...whatever you want to call it to new levels. The sooner FIFA gets a grip and orders referees to send off players who writhe and roll around on the floor when they have not been touched the better. In this technological age, surely it is not beyond the authorities to have the fourth official watch replays and notify the referee after the event? The linesmen were in radio communication with the referee after all. Regards, Rick |

Come on guys, it is just a sport. Portugal is without doubt one of the best teams in Europe. Yesterday they just were not lucky. Paul, how they cheated to get to the semifinal? Wasn't it England who was impotent to score from penalty spot? Wasn't it venomous and crazy Rooney who jumped to opponent's crotch? Ronaldo is one of the best players nowadays (as Rooney is) and I remember he wasn't play-acting before he moved to Premiership Rick, I was looking forward to see good game not a whinging. If you like whinging you had to enjoy your last game nearly week ago... But you are right that football needs some change because referees have too much power to affect the run of a game. But the man who sent Rooney off is probably one of the best as he will referee the final Karel |

Yes Kirsten, and we had a lot of substitutes, Klinsmann in second half putting all those players on the field who had not had a match in the tournament before. Portugal sending their best eleven did not reaaly have a chance to win. It was that narrow to make it to the final, still not sure of if I should cry or laugh. What do you think whom may we see for a visit in the EAC in Cologne next year, Reiter and some of his ISS cewmates or maybe Reiter and the STS 121 crew or none of these combinations? Best wishes Chris |

Excellent World Cup Tournament and Very Interesting. The Most Mysterious Thing I am still wondering about is what the Italian Defender said to Zidane that made Zidane Head butt him in the Chest! Zidane is one of the Best and mild mannered players in the World, so I think something terrible must've been said to him to make him react like that. Someone has said that the Italian Coach told the players to do their best to get Zidane in Trouble and get him kicked out of the match! Interesting to see what Zidane has to say about the incident. Great world Cup and I look forward to 2010 World Cup in South Africa. - Zee |

It's amazing to see the excitement this tournament generates. Too bad it's everywhere but here in the US. [This message has been edited by John K. Rochester (edited July 10, 2006).] |

Congratulations Paolo! And to our French readers, too - what a match, both teams were excellent, essentially a draw... what a way to end! |

Strange final that was! First half amazing, second nearly boring. And a strange penalty shootout, both goalies without a chance of touching at least one ball, 9 perfect penalties and even the missing one nearly scored. Thereīs a rumour brought up by one of Zidaneīs close friends that Materazzi said something very insulting about Zizouīs mother who isnīt in good health anyway. But, itīs just a rumour. Zidane seems to keep silence about the incident for ever. Well, now itīs a 4 years wait, but to prevent withdrawal effects I will attend next match of the German team versus Sweden in August. Best wishes Chris

Well gang,I started this thread about the world cup, it was not the best world cup but it had its good points. My main memory will be the sad end scene of Zidane being sent off, it was a shame to end one of the greatest players of his generation, off in disgrace. Well i hope that these posts have been intresting i have found peoples views from all over the world intresting, thats what i like about out hobby all different views on all subjects, perhaps when the football season starts in the USA, someone will get another post going, myself i am based in the UK but i am a Dolphins fans and have been to the Dolphins staduim on several visits to watch the games. my fav player of all time at the Dolphins is the Greatest QB never to win a superbowl ring the great Dan Marino. Well enough from me all the best for your summer guys Paul Footballs coming home (Next Time ) [This message has been edited by paul prendergast (edited July 11, 2006).] |
