Hi Paul,If I had my way, I'd spend every summer vacation in the US visiting space centers. In the interest of my marriage and the sanity of the kids we are going to the south of France this year. Any space centers in the south of France....????? Regards, Rick |

Congratulations Doug, I doubt any of us are gonna better that for the summer ! Money is a bit tight for me now so I will be spending a week on the coast in a pals static caravan, and were hoping to plan a few odd days out to the zoo and theme parks. Hopefully I will get back to Florida in 2009, (well thats the plan anyway). Hope everybody has a great summer. Adam |

I'm about to follow the Philadelphia Phillies down to DC to play the Nationals in a weekend series. We're staying over a few days to see the new Air and Space Museum and then see the Neil Armstrong Lecture Tuesday night on the Mall. |

After the shuttle launches, I'll be heading out to California for about ten days with my girlfriend who has never been. The highlight for me (I've been there many times) will be adding four new ballparks to my list (I've seen the Giants already and will be going again, so that's five games). Later in August I am hoping for the possibility of heading home up north and taking in a few more parks but that isn't decided yet. ...and should it not head here, with the right timing I could get lucky and see the shuttle land at Edwards!

July 13, myself, parents and grandparents will be flying to the Carribean. It's for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. We're staying at the Atlantis. If I had my way, we'd go to Florida on the 1st to see the launch, and to San Antonio for the UACC show. Money is also tight with my parents and sadly we can't do either. Especially with the cost of my flying lessons! I'm glad we are leaving after the shuttle's scheduled return. I can't miss that! ------------------ Mike [This message has been edited by FutureAstronaut (edited June 08, 2006).] |

Duke, I'll gladly trade most of August with you! The heat & humidity is terrible here on the GA coast then. I live three blocks from the beach and you can smell and see the salt hanging in the air! That's the time of year I profess, "If I ain't gotta go outside, then I ain't a-goin' outside."

Just got back from China, off to Madeira tomorrow, Moscow next Friday, Minsk next Saturday, Paris the following weekend. Then next month Ibiza, London, Amsterdam, and Edinburgh. August in Ibiza again, then Tokyo, possibly Brazil (see you there Steve) then a tiny village in Northern Ireland next to the Giant's Causeway called Portrush. However, that's all through my job - if I get any time off this summer I'm spending it at home Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |

I already shot my wad on a Mediterranean cruise this Spring to view this year's total solar eclipse from the Libyan Plateu of the Sahara Desert, so I'm broke now.And no, the cruise ship did not sail the sandy seas. There was ground transportation. BTW, a photo montage that I made of the eclipse is posted at this site: http://www.marstown.us/ |

Covering and "working" the STS-121 mission in July, and shortly afterwards, heading for the Big Apple as my wife has family all throughout New York. During my last visit to NYC, my wife's family took us to the top of the Empire State Building. It was a view and trip that I'll never forget. While on top, I did notice and could clearly see an aircraft carrier that was in dock, or was permanently parked, on Manhatten's Hudson River looking south of where we were on the skyscraper. I think it was the USS Intrepid, GT-3's recovery vessel, which I was told is now a public museum of military aircraft and aerospace artifacts. Has anyone been on the ship? My wife knows I would love to tour the onboard ship's museum and we may be doing that this summer. Does anyone know more about the aerospace section on the ship? Would it be worth a visit (I would think so, huh)? |

Yeah, well, we get the humidity without the heat. It snowed here two weeks ago. Around here we can smell the salt and have the sea hanging in the air. The good part is that you can still buy a three bedroom, two bathroom house in good shape in a decent neighborhood for $75,000. The bad part is it's in Syracuse. |

Rick, I can state as a matter of personal experience that there are space centers in the south of France. You just need the right eyes. Suggest perusing the works of Miro and Calder at Foundation Maeght....after consuming excess bargain reds one can pick up just about anywhere. You'll see a space center, fer sher. Be sure to hit the casino at Monte Carlo while on holiday. You can buy the girls and Spoggy some nice stuff, just down the street, with all of your winnings. Rover kosb

Yes, it is the USS Intrepid. I have not been on board yet, even though my girlfriend works in NYC, but they have an Air France Concorde, among other things, there, actually on a barge parked next to the ship, that you can tour through. If you Google USS Intrepid, it will give you more details as to their collection. |

Oh, and Farnborough on July 20 and 21 + possibly Leicester for Brian Duffy on July 19. What is most convenient for me to travel there from the NLs ? Flying to London and then taking the train to Leicester ? Trying to fly to Birmingham ? Any advices are welcome ! All the best, Kirsten |

Although I am not going for long term vacations this summer. It will be busy. I am currently training for a four day expedition to the Andrea Doria. It has been 50 years since the ship sunk about 100 miles off New York and she is getting battered, so I figured it would be good to go to see her before she is completely reduced to a debris field. Plus there is something about being in a group of ten sweaty men on a fifty foot boat for four days too. Then to watch STS-115, if it gets off in late August. Larry McGlynn |

Not going anywhere for a while as our 2nd baby is due in about a month. It's been 90 degrees (32C) for the last few days so it's too hot to go anywhere anyway...

On Sat. 1st July I plan to have breakfast in Belfast then lunch in Vancouver (with some nice views in between - clouds permitting - of Greenland and Baffin Island). After two days in Vancouver I plan to head north to Whitehorse in the Yukon, spend four days touring around, then back to Vancouver. The family holiday follows later - Jersey in the Channel Islands. Not very exciting, but a nice place to relax and recharge the batteries! [This message has been edited by Blackarrow (edited June 12, 2006).] |

Duke,Yes, it's winter in Brazil (apart from a small bit North of the Equator)but we will be at around 14 degrees South which is roughly the same Latitude (North) of Barbados, St.Lucia etc. One thing for sure, it ain't gonna be cold! Steve |

KirstenI'd say Probably best fly into Birmingham International, train station onsite. Take short train ride into Birmingham New Street. Change and train ride through to Leicester. Bus/taxi out to Space Centre. THERE may be straight through trains from Birmingham Airport International to Leicester ? Nottingham EAst Midlands Airport is probably nearer but I don't know how you'd get to Space Centre Leicester easily as no rail station onsite. There may be public bus transport but you'd need to enquire. A taxi ride would be expensive. Phill

I won't be going anywhere this summer, unless I win the lottery. I am saving up for September/October, however. My father-in-law is visiting from Australia and there are a couple of Civil War sites we haven't hit before, will probably go to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to show him what has changed since the last time he was here (six months before Katrina), and maybe Stennis again although we've been there several times when he has visited. I will be attending the 8th Air Force reunion at Barksdale AFB for a few days in October; I am really looking foward to that.------------------ 385th Bombardment Group (H) |

With age comes a lot of indecision. First it was San Antonio, but now that looks unlikely. Then the California coast from San Deigo or L.A. up to San Fran. Maybe next year. Finally, we decided to drive down from New Brunswick thru New England, to Boston, Cape Cod, and Rhode Island. Always on the lookout for travel tips so don't anybody be shy to email me some. Doug: Congrats! Does this mean no S.A.? What will Dee and Cece do without you? Pierre-Yves: See you soon! Summer? What summer? It may be Midsummer's Day today, but it has rained heavily for much of the day, it has been blowing a gale, I had the central heating on this morning (OK, it was for my wife's benefit) and I have been wearing a winter sweater all day while working at home. Even by the standards of early March, today would have been a rotten day. |
