Duke asked me to come over and post a message if there was a Scott Carpenter birthday thread so he could wish Carpenter a happy birthday. He'd skin me for telling people, but right now Duke isn't doing very well. He's been in and out of the hospital lately and he hated it because the nurses made him behave. Honestly though the news isn't very good and he may not make it home this time. Please keep him in mind because he's a real sweetheart and a big pain in the butt all at once. I can pass on any good wishes. |

Duke, I wish you a speedy recovery and pass on some words of hope from King David: " I love the Lord, for he heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned his ear to me, I will call upon him as long as I live." |

Duke,I'm devastated to learn of your health reversal and wish you a robust recovery, and soon. I'm going to see the DP this weekend and in your honor will print out a hard copy of some of your best posts, to read aloud. I, um, think he'll enjoy them, maybe especially the Fred MacMurray and the Cannibals TV pilot, when SCE to AUX first joined the boards here. I'll try to get him to post here, via my brothers' good offices when they're all next to a computer, in your honor. Kris |

KC..I'm sure the Dukester would enjoy hearing that great news, that the DP would actually be enjoying the um..."Duke Brand" of humor. Getting the esteemed subject to actually post would be a tremendous thrill to all of us..( then maybe we could progress to an online Q-A)I'm still trying to find an address for the URL so I can pay him a visit..but so far, no luck.. |

An online Q&A would be a nice addition to the DP's website... wait, we've covered this already! Any possible information regarding sending a card to Duke would be appreciated!

Taking what I assume is Duke's real name from his listed email here, I just called the admissions department for every hospital in Syracuse to see if they have a person admitted in that last name.No luck. |

I just checked and I do have John's (Duke's) address. I don't want to violate his privacy, so I won't post it here, but if you want to send a card or letter, you can either contact me via e-mail or send it care of Rocket Town (528 W. Bay Area Blvd., Suite 800, Webster, TX 77598, ATTN: R. Pearlman). I'll see that its forwarded promptly. |

I have just returned from the hospital and a visit with the Duke. He related that the other guy in his room had medication administered by suppository and then repeatedly called for the nurse because he thought something was caught in his rectum. He's having a surgical repair of some sort to his heart as soon as he's able. I also told him about all your best wishes and he wanted me to thank you all with the caution about being careful what you whis for since you might get it. He wanted me to thank Ms. Stoever AND her Dad. He had a specific message, which was that if he recovered he didn't want Mr. Carpenter to get a swelled head about his healing powers and make the other astronauts feel bad by lording it over them quote "like Babe Ruth hitting a home run for some sick kid" unquote. Typical. He still has a long way to go but he's at the point where the nurses are swatting him so there's an improvement. I thank you myself for your kind words, because I know he was pleased to find out people cared.[This message has been edited by Duke Of URL (edited May 03, 2006).] |

Wow John, not sure what this is all about, but it had to be edited by Robert so it couldn't have been good! Anyway my post was a playful nudge to KC to remind her to talk to the DP this weekend about the website he doesn't have but really needs! It goes back a ways! Anyway, Viva El Duque! I have been in touch with someone close to Duke and while he greatly appreciates the efforts, its been asked that readers here withhold sending cards, trying to call or visit. Right now Duke needs his rest and full attention on recovery. Your thoughts and well wishes posted here will be conveyed. I will be sure to let everyone know when direct contact is possible and/or appropriate. |
