I was wondering how many cS members are licensed pilots and what licenses they hold? |

I got my private pilot license (BeneLux B) back in 1990 but stopped flying single-engine Moranes in 1994. Lack of time, getting married, kids... you know the story. |

Private VFR. Not current since '92. Like Philip, I ran into conflicting priorities. Favorite airplane was the Grumman Tiger. The bubble canopy made me feel like a WWII fighter pilot... |

Can't stand those noisy engines myself - silent flight for me. Own and fly a 15 metre Schemp-Hirth Discus single seater glider. Gliding since '95.Wife doesn't agree - Commercial, CFI, multi rating etc. |

Sadly due to me spending all my spare money on space things, my flying activities have progressed no further than jumping off a small box while wildly flapping my arms. However last year I did sustain a flight over over 4 feet! |

I have my Private Pilot, although I haven't flown much since about 94. My brother, however, has arranged his life so he commutes in his Cessna 170, which is pretty cool. |

On the 11th of August my daughter Miranda Myer turned 17. She also earned her private pilot rating on that day. In 2009 we met Patty Wagstaff's crew chief, Chris R. Chris offered Miranda some lessons in his J-3 Piper Cub. The only problem was Chris lives in Georgia and we live in Kansas but there was no way we were going to miss out on this chance for Miranda to fly. Miranda totaled about 25 hours in the J-3 Piper Cub and an early 70s Decathlon. Even though the owners of the Cub did not have solo insurance they were going to solo her but a strong cross wind came up the last two days we were with them so the solo would have to wait. Miranda started flying lessons near our home in Southeast Kansas in mid March flying a Cherokee 140. She soloed on the 3rd of April. Her local instructor told us Miranda was ready for her Check Ride long before her birthday but we had to wait till she turned 17. A few weeks before her birthday she took the written test and she scored a 92 on it. Then she did a great job on her Check Ride. In the past year Miranda has flown the J-3 Piper Cub, the Decathlon, a Chinese built CJ-6, a Great Lakes bi-plane, in two different PT-17 Stearmans, two different Pitts bi-planes, a Cherokee 140,and a Tomahawk. One of the PT-17 Stearman pilots was former NASA astronaut Sam Gemar and the other Stearman pilot was incoming EAA President Rod Hightower. Miranda is a Junior at Humboldt High School and her dreams are of the Air Force Academy and then NASA. I hope she makes her dreams come true. |

Congrats to Miranda! Great job. I saw my posting from 2004, I'm up to just about 2,200 hours now since that last posting. Happy flying and keep the greasy side down - unless flying an aerobatic plane! |

Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement. Miranda and I have loved reading your replies. We flew together, just the two of us, for the first time last night. It was neat and I hope we can do it more often. |

I shared this thread with Dee O'Hara, and she asked me to add the following from her:"What thrilling news!! My, our little girl has grown up and is a real beauty. She is such a sweet girl and think it is wonderful that her Dad provides her with so many opportunities to succeed. My congratulations and best of luck! I know Mike has to be proud as a peacock! Really great news." |

Miranda is the face of the future of aviation. She has the enthusiasm and the natural ability to go anywhere she wants and I hope she goes as far as she wants to. Congratulations on getting her PPL. She's already flown more aircraft then many pilots ever do.As for me, I have been a licensed pilot since November 2004 with just a single engine land rating. I owned my own airplane from 2005 to 2007, but had to sell it when I lost my full time job. Since then I haven't been back in the cockpit. But it will happen one day as I miss it. I first flew in 1991, but never finished up back then (although I did solo). What got me back into the pit was a PT-17 Stearman flight near KSC in the spring of 2004. At that point I forgot how much I missed it and didn't look back. |

Congratulations, Miranda! Getting your private pilot license is a major milestone on your way to your destination ... now, you have the confidence of knowing that you CAN do it, and there is nothing that can stand in your way.I enjoyed meeting you at KSC in 2007, and I look forward to continuing to see updates from your Dad regarding your progress. On the topic of this thread, I was a career Air Force pilot, now flying B-737s for AirTran Airways. ------------------ John Capobianco Peachtree City GA |

I've mailed a couple of pilots on cS but thought the rest of you might enjoy 'What goes up might come down'. This is a talk given by an UK air traffic controller named David Gunson. His talk can be listened to here. It is very funny and, as a mere passenger, it's almost enough to put me off. |

Hello everyone. I am in the airline industry, now 32 years and flying in the left seat of the 744/for the last 9 years. A very good friend Mr. Nichols has asked me to post this photo of an aircraft that I built. It is a Pile Emeraude with a Cont. O-200 engine. |

What record do you hold? I read that there are a lot of records that people can set. Nothing really famous, but you can claim that record for yourself! |

Speed over a Designated Course - Mojave, CA, to Oakland, CA. Flew covers (postmarked at both ends, of course) and other items. Definitely makes for a nice resume bullet! |

Nice! I need to find one in Washington to get my name on. I read a book recently "Never Land" I think it was, about a guy that was setting an aviation speed record in a Cessna 150. Not super fast of course, but he was the only person yet to do it, so he got the record! |
